If a senior looking like a domestic abuse victim came up and politely insulted me with the wit of a 8 year old, the logical choice would be to wish him a good day and to privately pray that his wife stop hitting him in the head as to not deteriorate his cognitive further. His obsession with doing everything possible to avoid going outside is very fucking clear in the home gym segment too what the fuck was that even wealthy people I know go to the gym just because the price of all those machines is insane. The meal prep stuff is insane even if LTG used hello fresh or whatever he isn't door dashing 15 times a fucking week like DSP is honestly how do you get "he orders premade meals!" from "meal prep"? meal prep is like one of the first things you do when you are someone who is in shape and works out something DSP knows nothing about clearly.

I'm basically a gym rat myself and phil's takes on anything related to the gym or weightlifting genuinely makes me mati. Its obvious phil knows nothing about the hobby, but still tries to gatekeep it. Phil thinks buying a set of adjustable dumbbells off amazon makes him an expert on weightlifting.

Most people who are into weightlifting and fitness just like going to the gym. Its really not that deep. You have a routine where you get out of the house for a little while, Phil frames it like everyone's goal is to inside their house as much as humanly possible since thats what he does. Also sometimes you need a spotter so being at an actual gym helps there, of course phil wouldn't ever need a spotter with his mickey mouse dumbbell workouts.

As far as a home gym, sure its technically possible to have a great home gym but you would need so much equipment to compete with what you would have access to at a real gym. Look up a basic leg day routine for example. Is someone really going to have a leg press machine and a double digit number of plates to be able to do leg presses at home? Along with everything else you would also need for the other leg exercises. How exactly is Phil even getting a good leg day in with 50 lb adjustable dumbbells? It's just easier to go to a gym where you easily have access to all this equipment.

Its just obvious phil knows so little about lifting that he can say his little dumbbell set is at all comparable to an actual gym. I guarantee 100% of the people at my gym could afford to buy phil's dumbbell set and flatbench, you would need way more than that before it becomes a suitable alternative to the gym. And its really not even about the money, its just fun going to the gym.
