Only thing I can think of is making it look like enough of his viewers want him to do whatever stupid thing he wants to do and is going to do one way or the other anyway and he just wants the ego boost, and to maintain responsibility for his success on their shoulders (the team meetings we’ve been seeing about “you guys asked for this”, etc). Piecing out his motives is frustrating because we always get confirmation somehow, it just takes forever. Even out of his 250-300 viewers, most of those are even bots. Believing he has not even 1k but multiple thousands of viewers is just insane,

Remember Phil sees the numbers detractor videos get and think those are his viewers they stole from him because they're so stupid they fell for troll lies and mistruths. Memology 101 gets tens of thousands of views on his vids alone so I'm not surprised Phil thinks his 'real' audiance is tens if not hundreds of thousands of people.

Phail has many LARPs, but the biggest one is that he's a successful and mature adult, goal or otherwise. If he has to fake a tip every now and then -- especially after a streak of relatively low community challenges -- it allows him to present that image.

its possible, but i lean towards it being Phil. reasons being:

1) dents LOVE the attention from giving Phil money. thats the reason most of them give him money to begin with, especially the whales. they want the recognition. an anonymous tip will get reactions, sure, but not attention to themselves directly.
2) the way he announces them along with the messages attached are usually very suspicious. just look at how he "reacted" to it today, and the message sounded like something he'd make up on the spot.
3) Phil is a liar (water is wet) and bases his entire life playing pretend, making things up even when unnecessary because its so engrained in him to behave that way, AND hes a narcissist with a fragile ego who doesnt want to give the trolls a win (the 4th consecutive stream not hitting the "ex" goal would look really bad) AND his tism probably infuriates him if he doesnt see the arbitrary 150+ on top of his screen.

again, you could be right, and im sure a few dents have anonymously tipped, but i think most of the time its piggy doing it on the fly.

Fake or preplanned tip are the same tbqh. DSP himself has said many times he could be lying about every tip so no reason to believe it was anything otherwise. As for why he would do a fake tip he was very very concerned about hitting the not goal and he has dropped too many games to really drop Arc Raiders and the game has been one of those money comes in on the podcast or at the end games.

It almost sounds like he is assuming CoD is done after tonight without a whale and if he didn't hit the goal on Arc it would've been 5/6 streams with a dropped game with the other one being Tainted Grail which will be dropped after 1 more stream without a whale.

It's kind of crazy how the non existent goal is still totally in control.

The thing is I'm sure a lot of people pick up and drop video games after a session. The difference is not many of them have built their channel on a foundation of "Full Lets Plays No BS". He's the one who says you can't make best GOTY or worst GOTY lists if you don't finish a game and its something he says to the day. (He. Ree!) He always makes these definitive statements and switches up later. Now, while calling someone out for being a hypocrite can be pedantic this is a pattern of behaviour with Phil.
