🐱 ‘Cuties’ Boycott Is an Attack on Creative Freedom Fueled by Conservatives

L’ARP (La Société civile des Auteurs-Réalisateurs-Producteurs), France’s authors, directors, and producers guild, issued a statement September 15 defending the controversial release of the Netflixoriginal movie “Cuties.” The film has become a national talking point following its September 9 release over accusations it sexualizes child actors and promotes child pornography. L’ARP says the backlash over “Cuties” is a “grave attack on freedom of creation” being fueled by “the most conservative of Americans” (via Variety).

“At a time when the most conservative of Americans are calling for a boycott of the film ‘Cuties,’ we would like to support its director, Maimouna Doucouré, who won the Best Direction award at the Sundance Film Festival,” an official L’ARP statement reads. “This film, produced in France, then bought by Netflix for distribution in the United States, is emblematic of the indispensable freedom of expression that cinema, in all its diversity, needs to address disturbing topics, therefore it’s necessary for the exercise of democracy. We will always stand with those who support and disseminate works expressing this freedom.”

Outrage over “Cuties” erupted August 20 after Netflix debuted a poster for the film that featured its child stars making suggestive dance poses in revealing outfits. The poster led to accusations the film sexualizes its stars, when in reality “Cuties” openly criticizes the ways in which society puts pressure on young girls to be overtly sexual.

Netflix apologized for inappropriately marketing the film, but the September 9 streaming debut of “Cuties” resulted in more outrage. Senator Ted Cruz sent a letter to the Department of Justice over the weekend asking for Netflix to be investigated over the production and distribution of child pornography. David Grumbach is the CEO of Bac Films, the French finance and distribution company behind “Cuties,” and he tells Variety that it’s “scandalous to accuse us of promoting child pornography.”

“I think the protests are coming from the right wing — from a fringe of ultra conservatism,” Grumbach said. “But we’re grateful that Netflix [kept] the film [on its platform] and has supported it despite everything. We must be strong and united to protect the freedom of filmmakers. It’s not just for France, but also for Hollywood.”

Grumbach continued, “Think about Jodie Foster who was 12 when she played a prostitute in ‘Taxi Driver,’ or the movie ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ or the countless other movies that would have been boycotted if we caved to this kind of conservatism. We wouldn’t be able to make movies about abortion, violence, etc. because to denounce something, you need to show it.”

“Cuties” filmmaker Maimouna Doucouré reacted to the backlash last week in an interview with Zora magazine, saying, “I realize that the people who have started this controversy haven’t yet seen the film. Netflix has apologized to the public and to myself. I’m hoping that these people will watch the movie now that it’s out. I’m eager to see their reaction when they realize that we’re both on the same side of this fight against young children’s hypersexualization.”

“Cuties” is now streaming on Netflix.

France, huh? I'd be very surprised if childrapist Roman Polanski does not hold some high office in this L'ARP group
It's some sort of bizarre memory hole in American pop culture. Everyone bitches about DiCaprio and Cavill dating 19-22 year old women when they were 30, but I've not seen one twitter campaign about Roman Polanski raping a 12-year old and getting applauded at French film festivals. Or about Jerry Seinfeld dating a 17-year old when he was 35. Or about Woody Allen dodging multiple rape/abuse claims by his own adopted children. Or about Stephen Fry in his 60s dating a teenage boy. What is the common denominator with all of these men? What shared background could they possibly have? The world may never know.

If "coercing 11-year olds into twerking in skin tight clothes while elderly french men shove cameras up their asses and shout instructions about how to dance more erotically" isN'T; conservative, then I guess I'm conservative. I sort of felt this when I saw that Pink News meme going around about "Republicans want to ban child drag shows" as though it was a bad thing, but now I think I'm decided on it. I want medicare for all, student loan debt forgiveness, etc., but not if it comes at the cost of accepting 5th graders being filmed dancing like adult women in a rap video. If this is the hill the Democrat/liberal establishment wants to die on them I'm out.

And these are just the 11 year old girls who got the role. How many dozens, if not hundreds of 11 year olds "auditioned" for the role while Monsieur Pedostein watched carefully and judged? Every parent and adult involved in any kind of decision-making in this movie should be at the very least investigated. Like at the very least a formal background check and surrendering their hard drives to either British or American authorities (since the French clearly can't be trusted with this).
At this point, if you don't have beliefs in extremum of the status quo, what have you been seeing for the last few years? Where have you been living? It's all gone wrong, nobody thinks positively anymore or positively of the situation of the West. They might not put it like that, but quiz a person long enough and you'll get equivalent terms. In spite of everyone dunking on Johnson, he still got 67% of the House of Commons to be Tories, iirc.

The gestalt wants the world to burn and to find holy works in the ruins, released from the stagnation. Released from the kind of vile impotent doublethink suffocating us.

In WWI the germans sort of brought it on themselves with unrestricted submarine warfare and the Zimmerman Telegram. The US was willing to sit on the sidelines until those brought us in and led us to throw the full weight of our financial sector behind the Entente.
You spelt 'Balfour Declaration' wrong.
The more of these headlines I read, the more pissed off I get. I can't say " PEDOS BAD REEE " so many times before even I get fucking burnt out.

This is just depressing.
It starts with accepting that obscenity isn't free speech, and never has been.

Okay, let me get this straight, it's wrong to put a fictional adult video game or comic book book woman in a bikini, women made out of polygons or ink, but it's okay to film real life 11 year olds dancing in a very sexually suggestive manner?

Really gets the noggin joggin.

LMAO Polanski is actually part of Larp it's not a joke. Holy shit an actual, verifiable pedophilic degenerate is part of this. Amazing.

Clown world is real and it gets worse every day. And to think pretty soon we will have only sites like this one to talk shit about pedos. Just like what happened with troons and fat people

We should have known some bad stuff was coming down the pike when people in Hollywood were so quick to defend Polanski back in the 2000s, that was like an early warning sign.

Didn't HBO or Sundance channel or something even go as far as to release an entire documentary defending Polanski? Really gets the noggin joggin.

>France
>Defending Pedophilia

Isn't always?
Anyway, this "polemic" is all so tiresome. I'm sick actually of both sides sadly.

Lmao starting to get sick of hearing about this shit.

She's French. The French are weird and they love pedos regardless (Polanski)
This is unfair to the French. The French regime and their uh, 'elites', may love pedophiles as much as other puppet governments, like the one that rules over America, but the French people do not.
Polanski pleaded guilty in 1977 to having sex with the girl in actor Jack Nicholson’s home, skipped bail and fled to France.

Several French politicians, including members of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s own UMP party, have accused the government of elitism and acting in haste. Green Member of the European Parliament Daniel Cohn-Bendit said Mitterrand should have waited before more details of the case were known.

Extreme right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen denounced a “political-artistic caste” claiming special privileges.

“Charges of raping a 13-year-old child, that’s not something trivial,” UMP parliamentarian Marc Laffineur said.
Even Daniel Cohn-Bendit, who has admitted to molesting five year olds and defends pedophilia, would not fully support Polanski.

Normal French people are outraged at these filth. The noted comedian Dieudonne contrasts the attitude of certain 'French' intellectuals towards Polanski, a child rapist, vs. himself, a thought criminal.

Alain Finkielkraut on Polanski's victim "At 13 she was not a little girl"- on Dieudonne "The man is a repeat offender- at one point, you have to stop him".
