His gun is a very specific real life model, though. All of the characters in Bebop have very specific firearm models that exist irl, that's just another thing that appeals to fans of the anime- it helps to add to that "modern day real life stuff transplanted into a sci-fi future" vibe of the show and is just generally a treat for gun nerds in the audience. A character's choice in firearm can also reflect a surprising amount of that character's personality, past, values, and lifestyle.

It's details like this that were completely unnecessary to put in, but were anyways (and end up making the show even better than it already was), that show just how much of a passion project Cowboy Bebop was for everyone involved in its creation and production. The fact that Netflix can't be assed to do the same is a reflection of how much they genuinely care about the source material.

For any gun nerds in here, here's a comprehensive list of all of the firearms shown in the anime. It's genuinely amazing how many there are.

Edit because I forgot to add this: Cowboy Bebop literally put the Jericho 941 R on the map. The model was virtually unknown outside of Israel and it ended up exploding in popularity among international markets once the anime came out. It's one of the extremely few depictions of the gun in popular media and is easily the most iconic one due to the fact that pretty much every depiction of the 941 in media since exists as a reference to Bebop. "The model isn't iconic" my ass.
one time Gun Nut Pal dragged me to a gun show and we spent a decent chunk of it going "d00d that animu guns"
biggest highlight was we spotted a dude with Rip Van Winkle's stupid long ginomous gun from Hellsing
but yeah when Japan wants to flex on gun nut shit they can make any USA-jin blush

Im sure it has been asked before, but is there a reason why directors are more fascinated with turning anime, cartoons, etc into love actions? Besides the (rather stupid) belief that animation is just for kids, I can't really see any reason to spend so much money on a film that will not fully capture the beauty or art of the show they are replicating from. Sure Cowboy Bebop isnt as outlandish compared to Dragonball or Monster Hunter but it has a certain noir tone to it that would be difficult to capture.

I just feel that making an animated movie would be the better choice, but it feels like Hollywood now a days want to see who could take the biggest crappiest dump on Japanese shows and make hardcore fans ree for all eternity.

I wouldnt be surprised if Hollywood tries their hand on a live action My Hero Academia or Demon Slayer. (:_(
Besides the whole insecurity about animation, the reason these directors go for anime is to find the next big thing after capeshit despite anime being an entirely different beast compared to superhero comics.

So really it’s to tap into a market that they can exploit (despite most anime fans hating live action adaptations) and the insecurity of watching animated stuff

One of the cleverest things about Bebop that sets it apart from most sci fi is the, I don't know what exactly you'd call it, not anachronistic technically, but that blending of present day elements with sci fi, ie they're on a space station, but it just looks like Tijuana or they're on a city on Mars but it looks like 1980s Hong Kong.

One shot that really exemplifies that is I think in the Ganymede episode you see a group of old men sitting on a fishing dock, it looks like it could just be present day, but in the background you can see a sci fi looking building out in the water.

You wouldn't see anything like that in western sci fi until many years later with movies like Elysium or Upgrade.

Samurai Champloo did something similar by blending in modern elements into the past instead of blending modern elements into the future.
This is one area Cowboy Bebop is actually behind the curve by several decades in the science fiction medium. Especially when compared to sci-fi novels of yesteryear.

I mean, a good chunk of the fans are pretty unhappy with John Cho's casting for reasons already stated in this thread. The reason why nobody is pissed off at John himself is because John hasn't been a dick about the whole situation, while Daniela has. Turns out that if you don't act like a raging asshole, people tend to not have beef with you as a person.
Funny now not poking a bee hive results in less stings.

I mean I would be amused if Cho went on and did a similar rant (you think I can't play a 27 year old?) but he and Mustafa Shakir both seem professional enough to ignore whining on the internet.

This cow's getting milked hard for cash by the way.

Titan Publishing has just announced a collaboration with Netflix to publish tie-in books and a new comics series for their upcoming series Cowboy Bebop. The UK-based publisher will be releasing three new projects in the coming months: Cowboy Bebop: The Comic Series, which follows the crew of the Bebop on a never-before-seen adventure; Cowboy Bebop: A Syndicate Story: Red Planet Requiem, a brand new novel set in the world of the series; and Cowboy Bebop: Making the Netflix Series, a nonfiction production diary.
There's more to the article but it's a glorified ad.

I always liked how in the prologue flashback Spike just lights a cigarette and smiles as he's getting blown away, if you gotta go why not go out in style?

This fucking guy lol.

At first I had a shred of hope he was going to say something based and then of course he didn't.

That's rad.

True, I read The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury last year and it mixes sci fi with the then present day at times, but that's not really something you see very often onscreen prior to Bebop.

Japan is also the only country thus far to entirely recreate tanks accurately for a cartoon. GuP's attention to detail is quite amazing.

So yes, if the Japanese want, they can flex on almost any american hobby if they so choose.

Anime and western cartoons had been doing it since at least the mid 70ies. Live-action TV and movies even longer going back to the 50ies. As science fiction and even fantasy understand you don't need to change everything to go from real life-ish fiction to sci-fi and/or fantasy fiction. When all thats need to be change is just one component of the setting to do so.

Rarely do they go all in on it like Cowboy Bebop does though.

and who wants to bet this matthew faggot wont watch the show anyway and cry over it being cancelled?

Dude sounds like he doesn't even like the original show or movie. If so, why is he defending this netflix shit?
he's bought into the whole idea of "if you don't like new thing, then you're basement dwelling, boob loving, white male conservative, and i must oppose you."

or he's got a ton of cheese pizza and feels guilt

Nice touch getting one of her with her arms over her head, holy shit they look like man-tiddies in that one.
Didn't make it, got is from some coomer subreddit about nude celebs.
Well they'll have better success with this one given the bat-shit insanity of that fanbase.
jesus fucking christ how can any sentient being cast those pathetic half-assed bolt-ons for Faye
No fucking clue what they were thinking. I'm curious how bad her acting is as well if she has the bodytype of a generic short latina.
Isn't Spike ethnically ambiguous? I think the writers had just chosen that name because it sounded cool.
What is with these people and equating sex with power and shit? The more poon you slay the stronger you are?

I'm betting he religiously defends Cutes as well.

He must have a real hateboner against the said anime, or anime in general, because of stupid reasons like not being woke enough, and wants to see it fail to see the IP get trashed for good. He also comes off as possibly being a Cuties and TLOU2 defender too.

What a fucking prick.

What is wrong with these people? No wonder our culture is such shit when people are so defensive of garbage, have low standards, get served low quality.

For all these people's Woke feminist posturing, it always comes down to a woman's only value is her vagina and man's only value is how many times he's stuck his dick in one, how progressive.

That's one of the things I hate about these people is their hypocrisy, they're full of shit, it's all a big pose, it's all phony, it always comes down to "have sex, incel" no matter how "Woke" they present themselves as, it always comes down to pussies going into vaginas, how very "heteronormative" of them.

It's always because male feminist allies are projecting their insecurities since they only ever care for female empowerment because they believe it would get them easy pussy.
