A live action GITS movie was never going to work because they were never going to have the nudity, the GITS movie is the rare anime example where the fanservice really was crucial to the story, depicting Motoko's body so frankly nude drives home the themes in a perfectly visual way.

But a big budget movie is never going to be an R anymore, not to mention the issue of political correctness in having your lead actress be fully nude in a movie that was already brushing up against political correctness in the first place.

I've slowly warmed up to the first GitS movie (second one I dig), but it's so cold and steril compared to the comic book.

Black Magic M-66 OVA is arguably better as Shirow himself directly worked on it and it is an entirely new story not an adaptation.

I will say one big problem with making any new Bebop is you couldn't replicate the "look" of the original, it'd be too clean and digital and lack the texture of the cel animation of the original, so maybe it is best left well enough alone.

Weren't a few of the later episodes done digitally?

I wish Oshii didn't get involved in the production of the second season of SAC. There was no need to focus on the Major's childhood or the shitty heavy handed political plot.
