I actually don't mind an Asian actor for Spike, his name was always an alias and the syndicate was heavily implied to be Chinese in origin. That said, they cast a white dude as Vicious. So apparently they went with the interpretation that the syndicate is multi-ethnic, but the main character with the clearly (albeit faked) white name is Asian. Good on you Netflix for casting the white person in the villain role instead of just making the whole fucking cast Asian (barring maybe Jet). Cho is a fucking awful choice though. Not only is Cho old as fuck, he's short as hell, not lanky like Spike, and has given no indication he can handle even a small amount of the physicality required of an actor playing Spike. CAST A FUCKING MARTIAL ARTIST.
You know what really pisses me off, though? Faye isn't latina. She, unlike Spike, is given a concrete birthplace/ethnicity: Singapore. She should be Singaporean, or AT LEAST southeast Asian, whether Malay or Indian or something. If these woke types had any standards, they'd be pissed at that, but the woke Asian article writers that were chosen by the news corporations to cover this are not mentioning it at all. Bleeding Cool is a hellhole, but at least they brought it up. If you're going to throw whitewashing to the side and consider cultural context, and I'm cool with that, actually fucking do it instead of being obviously woke Americans with no clue about the source material.
Also, it's a Netflix live action adaptation. It's gonna suck. Throw it in the garbage pile with the Witcher adaptation, where people pointing out it was blackwashed were decried as racist.
