Yep, Japan has always had that desire never to criticize these things publicly.Even if the Japanese cast thought it was a train wreck, you won’t see them publicly commenting on it. It’s just not culturally appropriate.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Japanese translators/writers did a fine job with this mess. The Japanese VAs migth think that it's hot garbage, but they might think it's just a matter of US tastes.
Also, a key issue with the writing is the terrible dialogue and chances are, whoever made the translation might have slightly rewritten the dialogue to be less cringe in the process.
For instance, in Germany, Bud Spencer and Terence Hill are an iconic duo of movie history and that is at least 50% based on the absolutely hilarious dubs.
Even those were just ok. That's my point. If the best you can do is essentially break even with stuff like that or the old Guyver live action movies, then what's the point? With the exception of either Speed Racer and/or Alita, 99.9%
Not really since the Japanese dub of the Netflix adaptation had the original VA's reprised their roles. I know Watanabe said that he didn't really do much with the show itself.
I think the difference here is that the original VA is reprising her role and it isn't a first time role whereas the original live action's Ed was a first time role for the actor and was given bad direction.https://youtube.com/watch?v=SKhnoJyT8_AIt even makes the Ed scene tolerable, holy shit.
If a second season happens it should only be Jet babysitting Ed and Ein because the other cunts died.

Not even the animators or anyone outside the voice cast? I'd even be glad to hear the word of their studio janitor at this point. Not really since the Japanese dub of the Netflix adaptation had the original VA's reprised their roles. Glad that the only decent and most faithful actor in this shitfest spoke up.
If I turn off the disgusting video, I can almost imagine the audio as being a ten years older Edward in disguise asking an older drowsy Spike (with a beard and peacefully lounging about on a hammock somewhere) for help.https://youtube.com/watch?v=SKhnoJyT8_AIt even makes the Ed scene tolerable, holy shit.
Not good, but it makes it so I don't wanna kill myself while watching it because of the grating audio.
Holy shit someone working for a leftist company who can take criticism and doesn't chimp out when their show gets cancelled? Goddamn. Mad respect for him, since most of the time they post smug messages to try and destroy the "haters"
iirc one of the older Macross staffers, maybe Itano? But one of them was very blunt talking shit about Frontier. But yeah that's def the exception rather than the ruleYep, Japan has always had that desire never to criticize these things publicly.
What an absolute chad. Good head on his shoulders, decent actor and willing to accept reality.
See you space diversity hire man, you were somehow too good for this shitfest
From the few clips I have seen, this dude appeared to be the only actor who actually watched the show in its entirety and gave effort to act like his character, despite the horrendous writing for him.
Mustafa posts here right?
Now thats one based Black man, if only more actors and content creators where like him
I dunno. It just seems like the actress is jammed firmly into Uncanny Valley territory where her performance was never going to not be bad-weird.I think the difference here is that the original VA is reprising her role and it isn't a first time role whereas the original live action's Ed was a first time role for the actor and was given bad direction.
I mean yeah she was cast to play a literal child character which when coupled with the shit direction and this being the "first job" yeah the best you'd get out of the combo is echoes of deppwonka.I dunno. It just seems like the actress is jammed firmly into Uncanny Valley territory where her performance was never going to not be bad-weird.
I will support this man to continue playing Jet in a do-over. He's the only good thing about this otherwise rancid turd of an adaptation.
Also, the original VA has more years of acting experience than the Ed actress has even been alive for.I think the difference here is that the original VA is reprising her role and it isn't a first time role whereas the original live action's Ed was a first time role for the actor and was given bad direction.
