I found it weird how everyone seems to be not bothered with Jet despite the raceswap, I'm not bothered by it either. But mostly everyone else misses the mark and deserves the hate. It's like you can tell Jet is still Jet (and maaaybe the same personalty-wise) but then you see Gren and Vicious and recoil in disgust.
It's because Jet comes across as black anyway with the fact his VA is black too whereas Faye looks more boyish which doesn't fit her since she's a conwoman and Spike is an old asian man (when Spike is much younger). He isn't attacking fans like Faye's actress and Jet's race really had no relevance.

In comparison, Spike's is an issue since they are pandering to asians with a character who was not even asian and made the actual asian character into a Latina.

And there it is.

It's better than him being trans but even then he identified as a man and didn't seem to like that his body was fucked with. Also I hate how this tweet is worded as though Cowboy Bebop intended to make this character non-binary and Netflix is just "correcting" it.
That’s pretty much what any modern remake does: make changes and claim it was “always meant to be this way”. It’s why they have the reputation they do.

Honestly I find it ironic Netflix made this change to a non-gay character and then meanwhile made a really gay relationship into evangelion into "Just friends" for their redub

I just realized that after watching the trailer for the opening of the live action version of Cowboy Bebop, I’m now concerned as to what the opening for the live action version of One Piece is going to look like on Netflix

:stress:

This was NOT thought out all the way through.
One Piece being adapted for Netflix is going to be an even bigger train wreck than Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, precisely because of the issue of mediums as discussed above.
One Piece takes advantage of the fact that it’s a 2D comic/animation in that is has very manic, high energy fights and exaggerated facial expressions and movements. Live action can’t really replicate that well; it’s going to be awful.
Thank Disney for cultivating that normie mindset as animation have been existing since the 19th Century not with them.
In retrospect, movies like Inspector Gadget and 101 Dalmatians seem to be the ground zero for the live action plague affecting animation.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if, like in the original anime, Gren dies?

The salt will absolutely flow from the SJW amoebas for Netflix killing off their only LGBT character instead of making him a main character.
With how the show looks like a remake of the original that will "fix things", it's going to happen. But you're optimistic they won't make Faye or Ed gay

When was Gren ever a "sexy, non-binary icon"?

Dude was a war veteran who had a shit life, got betrayed by the man he admired the most, was given boobs against his will and spent the rest of his days trying to find out why he was betrayed and damned to such a fate. He's by far one of the most tragic characters in the show, he never gets his answer, is fatally wounded by the same guy he wanted answers from, and his final wish is to be sent back to the hellhole where he fought the war because thats the closest he's got to a happy place.

How is any of this "sexy"? The closest he gets to a "sexy" scene is when Faye catches him in the shower and even then her feelings quickly go from surprised to horrified.

Also, about the "non-binary icon" thing, its been said to death in this thread before, but Gren was always a man. He developed gynecomastia, which is a real thing that is not uncommon when taking hormonal drugs, and he dressed like a lady to ambush Vicious, but he's still a guy.

If they wanted alphabet points they couldve just made him a gay guy. He seems to like Vicious quite a lot and he's not interested in woman according to what he says to Faye, but it seems that in clown world simply being a homosexual man out for revenge is not enough.

It's because they have the same mentality as dumbass twittertards

Man with Boobs in Anime = Transgender or non-binary representation

Also the fact these people seem to treat the original show like it was quirky and silly

Yeah, think it's much more likely he was gay but after growing boobs couldn't find himself a partner after the war because gay men aren't attracted to breasts, even on a man.

So turning a potential gay man into an enbie prostitute for progressive points is something only Clown World could come up with.

Can you faggots keep out of shit I love? It's bad enough you feel the need to call Frodo and Sam a gay couple.

This is what happens in any remake today. I fully expect whenever someone makes a new LOTR series based on the books there will be at least one gay couple in the Fellowship.

Well he fucked Faye.

That was because the original dub wasn't approved by studio Khara, but once Netflix got a hold of it Khara got final approval on the subtitled and dubbed script Netflix would use. It's an interesting backstory.

Netflix didn’t even have anything to DO with the dub, they just got the license to stream it.

I just think it's that Jet just comes across as black. He's a bit ambiguous physically, but you could see him as a black dude.
The only issue I ever found with visualising Jet as black was his surname. Having the black guy literally called Black felt off, even more so when the first name integrated into it to make his entire name a colour. That said now they've committed to that casting in live action I am curious if they're going to ditch the surname.
