I've tuned out from politics for the past couple of years but I always like giving a hot take on these kind of issues regardless. I enjoy Kiwifarms - warts and all - for the sheer uncensored free speech here but there is a tendancy to doompost on here a lot and it's easy to fall down into a blackpilled rabbit hole. A few years ago I remember falling into that pit during the height of COVID, which admittedly feels like a fever dream in retrospect. There is a lot to be blackpilled about, for sure, but I'm going to go against the grain and offer a different perspective.

They're not going to do anything. They are not going to spread fear and hysteria in the future, you are already seeing the fear and hysteria they're trying to spread.

Lockdowns were wildly unpopular and now with the benefit of hindsight at how it irrevocably destroyed the economy... virtually no one except the most terminally online lefty Twitter user thinks they were the right call. We are just now in the early stages of mitigating the sheer damage that injecting trillions of dollars into the economy through PPP loans (forgiven if you ask nicely btw), stimulus money, "initiatives", etc did to us. Make no mistake the decision to lock the country down will haunt us for the rest of this decade and prices of groceries/utilities/etc will never go down to where they were before COVID. At most you can hope for a housing crash which introduces a wide range of its own unique problems. When this decade is over I fully expect the deaths of despair as a result of the lockdowns (which includes their reverberating economic ramifications) will eclipse the deaths of COVID.

Anyway, what I view this as is another form of manufacturing a crisis to "save us" from. Spread a bunch of rumors about the unpopular Biden administration going to go full lockdown again, get everyone afraid of a lockdown/vaccine passport, etc.... and then have nothing happen. See? He's not so bad. He's not the cartoonishly evil tyrant the right makes him out to be. The left are not this massive group of communist dictator wannabes, that's just a bunch of right wing propaganda. Do you really want Drumpf again? We locked down during Drumpf and look what it did.

Is there a time when they'll try and encroach on our own freedoms in the future? Assuredly so, but a lockdown is not on the horizon. There's no money to be made with another lockdown. A war on the other hand... well, that's the ol' faithful American tried and true method to get us out of an economic funk.

CLAIM: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that a new COVID-19 variant is more contagious among vaccinated people than those who are unvaccinated.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. In a risk assessment summary published Aug. 23, the CDC wrote that the BA.2.86 variant may be more likely to infect people with existing immunity to COVID-19, either from vaccinations or prior infections, than previous variants. It did not say that vaccinated people are at a higher risk than the unvaccinated.

THE FACTS: Social media users have in recent days misrepresented the public health agency’s guidance on BA.2.86, after the new variant emerged in mid-August.

“BREAKING: CDC says new COVID variant is more contagious among vaccinated people than those unvaccinated,” reads a post shared on Instagram and X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

As of Monday, one tweet that shared the post had received more than 15,000 likes and more than 7,500 shares.

But this is a distortion of the CDC’s current understanding of BA.2.86. The agency has not said that those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 are more likely than unvaccinated people by the new variant. Rather, it said those who’ve been vaccinated or previously infected may be more susceptible than they were to prior variants.

“Based on what CDC knows now, the large number of mutations in this new variant raises concern that BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines,” the agency said in a statement, bolding the word “or.”

Those making the false claim are misrepresenting the CDC’s Aug. 23 risk assessment for the variant, which said: “BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines.” It elaborated near the end of the assessment that “the large number of mutations in this variant raises concerns of greater escape from existing immunity from vaccines and previous infections compared with other recent variants.”

In its statement, the agency said that it is still closely monitoring the variant but that it is “too soon to know the real-world impacts on immunity” and encouraged people to stay up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines.

As of Aug. 23, BA.2.86 had been reported in the U.S., U.K., Denmark, South Africa and Israel, according to the CDC.

You don’t need to be a Jedi warrior to sense something disturbing when it comes to mandatory masks and vaccinations. The tyrants on the Dark Side know that if they can control our bodies, they can control everything.

It starts with the masks. Joe Biden has already said it’s time to mask up once again. As Leo Hoffmann wrote, “It’s critical to understand that the mask has become a powerful symbol of the elite’s ability to snuff out individual freedom wherever it exists.”

Biden is such a freedom snuffer. (In addition to being a kid sniffer). He knows he can’t beat Trump in a fair election, therefore he and his handlers will conduct a Covid rerun complete with manufactured fear, mask mandates, social distancing, mandated vaccines, and plenty of fraudulent ballots marked for Joe and sent via snail mail and drop boxes. We all know Biden is a crook—of course he’ll try to steal the 2024 election again.


It has been established by scientific research that cloth masks do nothing but interfere with breathing. Even Fauci admitted that, but then he changed his mind and endorsed them. Then he ordered people to wear two masks. The sadistic little man must have chuckled over that abusive escapade.

The masks and vaccines are not about protecting our health. They instead help establish the Dark Side’s dominion over us.

Masks are about obedience. They’re about dehumanizing us. Wearing a mask emboldens the Dark Side to take more—including our lives.

We know the Covid virus was manufactured in Communist China. It was a bioweapon that US taxpayers funded—thanks to the lying so-called ‘Dr.’ Fauci. He has done a lot of harm. He and his cronies such as Pfizer and Bill Gates got a lot richer during the pandemic. If the opportunity presents itself, make sure you shower Fauci with plenty of loud boos.



We know green energy Joe wants us to give up electric stoves, dishwashers, gas-powered lawn mowers, and even ceiling fans. Giving up those things will only condition us to give up really important stuff—such as food. The Dark Side doesn’t want us to eat meat—they want us to eat bugs. Schwab hates fashion. He wants to stamp out individuality and humanity by forcing us all to wear the same drab stuff. He wants us to be uniformly uniformed drones, whom he can completely control.

Those on the Dark Side pretend to be our friends as they destroy us. They accomplish this by means of generating fear. The weather always changes. Now they call it ‘climate crisis’ and use it against us. (“It’s hot—climate crisis! “It’s cold—climate crisis!”) Hurricanes and forest fires—everything is now due to climate crisis, formerly known as ‘climate change’ and before that, ‘global warming.’ The rich can afford ‘carbon credits.’ They will continue to enjoy life while most people will be forced to give up travel,



The common cold and flu were commonplace since humans began walking the Earth. They are now used by the Dark Side to generate fear—all designed to get us to wear masks and accept dangerous jabs and endless boosters. A cold 10 years ago was no big deal. Try going to a store nowadays unmasked and with a cold. The mask freaks will look at you as if you were trying to murder them. Things that were once acknowledged to be common maladies such as chicken pox and measles are now treated as the Bubonic Plague.

The Dark Side warps everything. Science was based on questioning and debate. Now it’s based on authoritarians. The Dark Side IS science. Or so they tell us. Good is seen as evil, and evil good. Do you want to protect children from sexual mutilation, dangerous vaccines, and harmful masks? You will be smeared as an evil doer and be subjected to harassment by the actual evil doers. You might lose your job or your bank account for doing good. The Dark Side always pushes fear to make you cave. If you caved during the first planned-demic, here is your chance to make amends. Don’t give in this time!

See, I rate optimistic because this does not follow. The lockdown gave every Dem governor emergency powers. Aside from ballot printer go brrr, it got them the ability to forbid church gatherings, beach gatherings, and the aristocratic ability to flout the rules they set for everyone else. That it hurts the economy now doesn't matter because "fuck you, I got mine" attitude. No politician in the US have foresight because foresight doesn't win elections.

A war will not jumpstart the US's economy even if we don't shed blood for it. The reason is America's captains of industry are Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos, not Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, or John Rockerfeller. One kind of industry employs people to make planes, tanks, and bombs. The other makes Metaverse and Windows 11. Sure, America can engage in financial fuckery to pay people, but that doesn't mean it translates into actual war material. That requires training large groups of people to work in munitions and vehicle factories, of which the American education system at large is incapable of performing. The MIC, never wanting to avoid graft, has to demand a return on investment fast and quick. They don't want to be holding the bag of goods if the war ends too soon or two late.

The proof is in the Russo-Ukraine war. The US government absolutely wants to win this war and sent hundreds of billions while telling native Hawaiians or Ohio to fuck off. But they still have trouble properly supplying Ukraine with the means to even properly engage is proper combined arms or Integrated Surveillance Reconnaissance warfare or whatever they call it. It is because the US's industrial base is not built for war-time production. It hasn't expanded to meet demand.

I’d like to think that it is from 2021, and that while people were still relatively concerned about the virus, the government determined that it should be up to parents whether or not their kids wore masks in class.

Alas, this is not true. Ontario still mandated masks at that time.

OK, so it must be fall of 2022 then? That sounds about right, because it is true that there were no mask mandates in Ontario schools at that point and the majority of kids chose not to wear them.

It’s not from then, though. This is a news headline from just the other day—September 2023. Why is this considered news? Why is a media outlet even reporting about COVID and schools right now? Was the government even considering a mask mandate?

These were all good questions that people asked on social media after the story went live. The last one is probably the most important one, because it would be very worrisome if the government was in fact considering such a mandate.

It all comes down to who fires (or injects, so to speak) the first shot - inertia is a powerful force for making people sit around and do nothing, especially if they have something to lose.
 
I really hope that (1) "The New Normal" doesn't return to the mainstream, and (2) that new jabs don't make things even worse.

But it is Current Year Clown World, and it's been getting ever worse since that endless shitshow started around a decade ago.

I ended up catching the 'New 'Rona' last week. Never been jabbed, and all it was was a headache and fever. I was fine in under 24 hours. Feel like a dumbass going to take a test to confirm I had it for $40 to show my work. Should have just lied and said it was the flu.

In Huntington Beach, they're ready and waiting for the COVID mask enforcers​

The City of Huntington Beach, also known as "Surf City," situated between Los Angeles and San Diego on the California coast, could see the mask mandates creeping up on their political spyglasses on the horizon.
So, they got proactive, according to this report from KTLA:
Huntington Beach voted to ban mask and COVID-19 vaccine mandates across the city on Wednesday as cases continue rising across the state.
Council members approved the ban 4-3 following an hours-long meeting that began on Tuesday night.
The motion introduced by Mayor Pro Tem Gracey Van Der Mark was met with both supporters and detractors during the hearing, with at least one attendee being removed after yelling at Van Der Mark.
After “declaring the city to be a no-mask, no-vaccine mandate city,” Van Der Mark mentioned an exception to the order would apply to those who have tested positive for COVID. Those individuals would still be required to wear masks in certain settings.

And they knew very well what this was about. According to the Orange County Register:
Huntington Beach is moving ahead to likely declare itself a “no mask and no vaccine mandate” city, preemptively taking a stand ahead of any future orders from health agencies.
Councilmember Gracey Van Der Mark created the proposal. After a 4-3 approval vote from the City Council, the city manager will return with a resolution at the next council meeting for formal adoption.
“This is all about individual liberty and standing against government intrusion,” Van Der Mark said.
Due to the spread of a new COVID-19 variant, the proposal aims to get ahead of “additional discussion of possible new broad (universal) mask-wearing mandates and pushes for vaccination boosters.”

Yes, it was pre-emptive. They already have been around this bend once before and knew the kind of absurdities that would be coming next.
During the first year of the COVID pandemic in 2020, California's lockdown enthusiasts in government were at their most idiotic in this part of Southern California, putting out the most ridiculous, stupid, brain-dead mandates ever known to man.

They filled a skate park with sand to keep skateboarders from skateboarding in nearby San Clemente, ignoring the hard fact that COVID was bred in closed spaces, not open ones.
They closed beaches, despite their wildly fresh air that dissipates and disinfects COVID, but that was hardly enough for them. They actually dispatched cops to chase down defiant surfers who were out in the water. They got one in nearby Manhattan Beach, and threw the cuffs onto another in nearby Malibu. At least one of the surfers got a $1,000 fine for ignoring the mask and lockdown mandates that actually went against science. By late 2020, sheriffs from all counties in Southern California couldn't take it anymore, and refused to enforce this garbage mandate.
The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, when he was not dining maskless at the French Laundry gourmet restaurant with his lobbyist pals, specially singled out Orange County's beaches for closure, which included Huntington Beach's, but not adjacent San Diego County's, despite the identical crowds flouting the nonsensical closures. O.C., see, tended to have more red voters. San Diego's county coasts had safely gone blue, as did Los Angeles's to the north.

BA.2.86, nicknamed Pirola, causing concern among scientists because of fear it could be more transmissible

The latest Covid-19 variant, BA.2.86, appears to be spreading in the UK, health surveillance data suggests.

The variant, nicknamed Pirola, has prompted concern among scientists because of the high number of mutations it carries, which raises the possibility that it could evade the immune system more easily or be more transmissible.

In a briefing note on Friday, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said that an outbreak at a care home in Norfolk and other cases across the UK indicated there was likely to be community transmission of the strain, but said it was too early to judge the full extent of its spread.

In an outbreak of Covid-19 in a care home in Norfolk at the end of August, 33 out of 38 residents tested positive for the virus, along with 12 members of staff, the UKHSA said. One resident needed hospital treatment but no deaths were reported. Laboratory tests later showed that 22 residents had the BA.2.86 variant, along with six staff.

The outbreak was “an early indicator” that the variant may be sufficiently transmissible to have an effect in close-contact settings, the UKHSA said, though it was too early to draw any conclusions about how BA.2.86 would behave in the wider UK population.

Twenty-nine of the 33 residents at the care home who tested positive for Covid-19 have recovered, along with all members of staff, the UKHSA added.

Dr Renu Bindra, the UKHSA incident director, said that while BA.2.86 had a “significant number of mutations” compared with other variants circulating, the data so far was “too limited to draw firm conclusions” about the impact this would have on the transmissibility or severity of the virus.

“It is clear that there is some degree of widespread community transmission, both in the UK and globally, and we are working to ascertain the full extent of this,” she said. “In the meantime, it remains vital that all those eligible come forward to receive their autumn vaccine as soon as it is offered to them.”

Some early lab-based evidence has eased initial concerns about the potential of BA.2.86 to cause a new global wave of infection, as happened with the emergence of Omicron. A pre-print study, from researchers in China, found that BA.2.86 is not as efficient at infecting cells in the lab compared with other circulating Omicron subvariants. Another pre-print study from researchers in Sweden found only modest drops in how well serum from blood donors could neutralise BA.2.86 compared with other variants.

The latest Covid-19 vaccine booster programme has been brought forward from October to September as a precaution against BA.2.86. The booster programme will begin in England on 11 September, with jabs offered first to residents of adult care homes and clinically vulnerable people, before it is extended to everyone in the UK aged 65 and above.

Assuming this latest Covid scare turns out to be anything like the other ones, I have a question for shop managers/owners who push for masks to be worn in your establishments - Are you getting paid extra to upset your customers?
If not, then why are you doing this? Just to show off? To flex your tiny muscles in the only way you can in life?

Unless the goverments start threatening fines or jail time for letting people in unmasked, knock this shit off. Even then, be honest about why it's happening. Don't pretend it's anything but avoiding trouble. We The People will still bitch, but we'll at least appreciate you being up front about things.
