Out of curiosity- how many of you American kiwis packed up all your shit and moved to a better, less lockdown-intense part of the country when the initial pandemic happened?
My area of the country (MidAtlantic) was pretty chill, outside of the major cities, so I stayed put. Never wore a mask outside of work (even when everyone in the grocery store was, I was the lone rebel).

Had to put in religious exemptions to maintain employment for 2 years, but thankfully that wasn't a big deal to get approved. They did mandate weekly covid testing for my kind tho (which I never showed positive, even when I was sent home for 2 weeks when my wife and daughter both had pos-tests for it)

per wikipedia . . . This Kariko is an interesting character. Also, hilariously, Weissman is one of those German names that Jews adopted to hide their lineage, the meaning of, being "huwhite man".

Sounds like they were rewarded, not for their efforts in combating the covid pandemic, but for getting (per NYT) "5.55 billion people, or 72.3% of the global population" to trial mRNA shots."
I can' t quote No Return's post, so using yours just to say...
Kariko rang a bell, turns out I've seen it via another Farmer's post a while ago

Soon as lockdowns started I was making plans to get out asap. When it eased up I fired out resumes and applications so damn fast it was unnatural; got a gig shortly after, left it all behind and started over elsewhere.
Only people I keep in touch with from the old stomping grounds are family.

Everyone else can get fucked.

I'd already done it because I saw which way the wind was blowing. I didn't predict covid specifically but I knew it was going to be important to live someplace heavily armed, with a libertarian bent to the culture, and with no demographic issues.

I think this is something people really don't grasp about the submission to American covid mandates in some parts of the US, esp CA. People have been leaving out of Babylon my entire adult life, this process had already resulted in massive ideological differences at the population level by 2020. Covid accelerated the end of the process, it didn't start it.

So what's the actual story behind "white lung" other than the same mix of totalitarians trying to manufacture consent, CCP spies trying to get the West to tank their economies and civil liberties again, and Twitterreddit hypochondriacs orgasming to the thought of reliving the favorite years of their lives (2020-21)? You know, the same shit as monkeypox, the "tripledemic", and the attempt to bring back Wuflu earlier this year?

As usual, it's probably some mix of Chinese [local] party politics, non-Chinese news media taking a popular story archetype and running with it, and an actual increase of cases. Since the increase in popularity of their own Golden Week in the past decade--which takes place in October--peak travel window in China has widened from October to New Year's in January/February. Lots of chances for viruses to spread. Also it doesn't help that outside tiered cities, China isn't that clean.

The law wants to criminalize people who cause a person to abandon a medical or preventative treatment, as well as people who will peddle dubious alternative treatments as legit. There is no explicit mention of the vaccines, and they frame it as targeting woo-hoo health gurus, but the part I bolded is vague enough to cause some people to be concerned.

Article in French:

Part translation via deepl:
Specifically dedicated to therapeutic aberrations, Article 4 creates a new offence designed to punish "incitement to abandon or refrain from following a therapeutic or prophylactic medical treatment", as well as "incitement to adopt practices presented as having a therapeutic or prophylactic purpose", when such incitement may prove "particularly serious" for physical or psychological health. Apprehended by most opposition groups - with the exception of the Socialist group - as an a priori condemnation of so-called "alternative" medicines, and as a threat to whistle-blowers, the government and the majority initially failed to push the measure through.

Jean-François Coulomme (La France insoumise) argued that "the sincerity of this fight against sectarian aberrations must not consist in imposing legal sanctions on complementary healthcare practices or the consumption of phytotherapeutic products", while Thomas Ménagé (Rassemblement national) denounced "a liberticidal drift" and Paul Molac (LIOT) a "danger to [freedom of expression". Amendments to delete article 4 - tabled by MPs from Les Républicains, Rassemblement national, Gauche Démocrate et Républicaine, and LIOT - were adopted by a margin of 8 votes (116 for, 108 against).
