Actually, this happens all the time. I've known people who grow cotton for profit in the South, and even if you're black, you will get called a racist nearly daily. "Cotton is racist" is a daily thing you will hear. And has been for like forty years.

What the fuck is their underwear made of?

Stalks of raw cotton sold at Hobby Lobby triggers some lady because of slaves, etc.

That was SO exceptional, it boggles the mind. WHO, in this day and age, is going to look at a raw cotton display and think "haha some knee grow slave picked this" or "you know what we should do? Get knee grow slaves and have them pick cotton again!"?!

I don't know why her offendedness means Hobby Lobby should stop carrying the damn raw cotton. It's her choice to NOT BUY the thing, but it's NOT her choice or right to deny others the opportunity to make their OWN CHOICE whether to buy it or not, by trying to get Hobby Lobby to NOT carry it. That's why people are A-logging and :epik: -ing her. Nobody would give a FUCK that she was offended, if she didn't demand that Hobby Lobby not carry that raw cotton display because muh feelz and muh historical oppressionz. I don't give a flying rat's ass whether she's offended by cotton on the stem. She can call it racist all she likes, I don't care. What DOES offend ME, is her insistence on affecting the lives of others by dictating what they can and can not buy, FOR NO GOOD REASON other than the feelz.

Edit: as an aside, strangely, even if you're a white man who owns a little gulf based sugarcane plantation staffed only by black people, no one will ever make the connection even jokingly. No idea why. It was at least as iconic as cotton historically.

shrug

Modern American public education fails to mention the fact that the American south wasn't the only place on earth where slavery has ever been practiced, its that simple.

Its true outside America as well honestly.
