Comicsgate Hangers-On and Drama Whores - A thread about some guy who's mad about Star Wars and the neckbeards obsessively stalking him

@FROG

I read your book you magnificent bastard

First I want to give anyone on the farms an HONEST OPINION on this book
Chromium cover is very pretty and [in some respects] whomever did the binding on this for you has done I think the best binding of any one of these books I have gotten. The spine feels weird when I put my finger over it. Weird like having a spot you burned on the inside of your mouth and you know you shouldn't touch it but you keep touching it. Its not a bad weird but it keeps making me do it.

The "Ruined pages" is kind of weird. Like I didnt really notice it till I held it a certain way. If I was a collector and not a filthy savage who believes comics are read and enjoyed that might bother me more.

Kyle is worth every dollar you pay him and then some. While your art is good, even great in places Kyle takes you to a higher level. Frankly the Mainstream Comics if they were going to take one person from Comicsgate into their circle of talent to produce work it would be Kyle.....he is that good. Which makes me excited for Starblazers.

The Bill Clinton thing: People are confused because that section there [I will get to that in a moment] has a lot of stuff going on. I was confused when I saw snippits of the book in videos.

The Story:
This is where the fault lies. But you are alot like George Lucas in the Prequels. You wanted someone else to come in and do the writing for you.....

I know you got cecil writing your next joint [And that one isnt your pride and joy] but if you have to write a story again let me give you your pointers

#1) You need a bit better of a structure

the first Half to 60% of the book was setting up the fundamentals. Realistically you could have done that in a lot less

1. Ship from an alien race shows up to warn/save earth from an invading alien species
2. It wanted to transform a human into earths protector but was unable to do so
3. It had to do that to a frog and salamander

You needed to put more into establishing cyberfrog and Heather's relationship as it seems to be where the heart of the story is.

AT MOST you needed 3 pages to do that. All the Lore stuff you put in there is neat and everything but thats not whats interesting.

What it should have been (in my opinion)

Cyberfrog is in the 90s on earth, the Invasion happens and he and Salamandroid have an AWESOME battle , their MOM is taken out, Cyberfrog fights valiently but falls into the river and slowly recovers. THEN you need to have someone else in the future come to save Cyberfrog because earth being invaded by hostile aliens isnt enough. Maybe the big aliens are about to launch the hive to another world and they have the chance to save other worlds and put a stop to them now. Heather's Daughter and Sal have to run the risk of leaving the isolated human survivors to reactivate Cyberfrog......and they do and the Swarm is there in force to stop them and thats where you cut off the story for the cliff hanger.

You waste a lot of time with indulgences in back story [especially since you are going to re-release all the old cyberfrog books]

Now having READ it.....its not as bad as the negative reviews make it out to be. Its a bad writing thing [But not as bad as Ren's writing LOL] but you want some one else to write on the next comic. It hurts your visual storytelling in places (the lack of a coherent story structure).

When I read Jawbreakers I was struck with a story that was very conservative and didnt go deep enough on what its writing was. YBZ kind of was insecure in writing that book. This story seemed to be [In my opinion] you wanting to introduce the comic that started you as a Pro to the world. And it didnt feel like you were engaged in the story beyond doing that.

You sold me on Cyberfrog on your charm and charisma. When it comes to the next book my big concern will be [Unless you dont do RB next] is how good a writer IS cecil. I'm not going to buy for your and Kyle's AMAZING art alone. While you neg the shit out of him JDA is a Journeyman writer. His stories dont set the world on fire BUT they deliever consistently good work. He has some of the most polished writing of any of these books. His art is never as good as his writing. IF you guys could get over your egos I think you could deliever a tip top book. I expect YBZ to level up his writing game (and a lot of the other writer lead projects). You need to find the next writing talent. He doesnt need to be an Ace out of the gate but he needs to deliver solid and consistent work. And that guy may not be Cecil.....but you need to find a good writing partner.

Because without a Stan to your Jack ......you arent going to make magic happen. Morrison and Johns were both good talents for you to partner with and you need to find the guy to do that for this phase of your creative life.

@UndeliveredCrowdfundMaste So Cuck did you get your books?

Kyle's pin-up did impress me, but I'm not sold on Starblazers until I see some interior art from the guy.

Its a shame the Dave Sim collaboration didn't work out, because not only is Dave a decent enough plotter, but I'm sure he could've thrown a few tips Ethan's way about drawing human characters better (Heather looks solid, but all the minor human characters looked awkward and/or badly traced).

Yeah, also Heather I felt like should have been the heart of the Trio of main characters but the story didnt give me that

Cool, thanks for the review!

BLOODHONEY is part one of four, which will represent season 1 of CyberFrog. I think you'll see why it was structured the way it was with the second and third parts, if you stick around.

I'll stay on as writer and artist. It's my personal project.

Hope you'll give REKT PLANET a shot!

#1) Thanks for responding.
#2) Seriously Kyle is worth every dollar you are paying him :-) you need to pay him more. Your art was amazing but he enhanced the quality at least 50%. In some sections, he raised it a lot more
#3) Don't take my criticism of the structure the wrong way

**For me** this is some book I bought because you were pushing it and I wanted to get on the EVS train. So how I relate to the story and the structure is very different then how you do.

This is your baby. Your Froggy boy is how you started your amazing journey. And your on a new chapter of that Amazing Journey you want to start again with your froggy boy. And you want to condense that early journey in a way for new audiences so they can feel they are totally a part of it. I totally get the WHY of you doing it. You want to bridge where he was to where the new story begings. **for me** I think that wasn't the most effective way to get to the meat of the story you want to tell. But this story is for you bigger in some respects then the audience. And I can respect that.

Reading/Watching some of the views where this was a criticism they made they made it sound a lot worse then it was. In large part because I dont think they were contextualizing your art as part of your broader career here.

All criticism is personal from the specific critic. @FROG is a big boy. If he doesn't know how to accept feedback that isn't a literary blowjob after this long in the arts, nothing you preface your comments with is going to fix that

Just wanting to make sure I was fully understood and he understands [to some degree] I understand his position

1. Yeah, man, of course! Thanks for buying the book!
2. I'm paying Kyle twice what DC colorists get, plus a $10K bonus just for the hell of it.
3. Criticism is helpful!

Hey EVS, can't wait for Cyberfrog 2: Rekt Planet.
Just curious, why does Tim Rim have a hate boner for you? Is it the space force shit or his little bunny being left out of a poster? All his likes are liking those cherries or dunking on CG.

All that stuff last week with Blizzard / the NBA / Apple / Google / etc really bothered me. It's clear China is policing statements for US companies.

Has anyone considered the idea China may be behind DC and Marvel's forced diversity initiatives? Like, in exchange for distributing their movies in China, they need to eliminate the prominence of white male characters? Maybe it's an attack on national symbols.

Thinking billion dollar box office receipts could be a big incentive to bend the knee. Wondering if this idea has ever been discussed.

So with regards to that one sped who kept chimping out over being able to flip Cyberfrog; I made it a point to follow an auction I found on eBay. The book made a whopping 40$ (a 10$ profit) with 10 bids from a total of 5 bidders.

Well is the Mong still longing on so we can mock him for being retarded

Everyone who want's the book got it and a campaign is still going. The only thing that changes is the cover. This book will never be worth a whole lot just like most of all comics.

In 10 years I don't think many people will care about my shiny frog book. Honestly I don't think many people care right now.

The world's most charming and humble man got a little bit more humble yesterday after the pay piggies balked at the $100 price tag for a pack of his trading cards and now he's re-evaluating the campaign to offer a tier at a more reasonable price, one with only a 'special card' per pack.
I don't know if it was wanton greed or EVS' fantasy of emulating the lucrative merch empire of his hero Todd McFarlane that prompted this very premature move (probably both) but he got a slap of reality from the CG community in response.
Neither Rome nor McFarlane's toy empire were built in a day, they certainly weren't built on the back of one half delivered issue 1 of a rather underwhelming book.
People will invest $25 in a creator to deliver a story that they might want to read, they need to be invested in that story and characters to want the merch associated with it though.
Cyberfrog is an as yet unproven commodity with exactly 2 characters that anybody might know or give a shit about (cards for which are already available in the preview pack as a perk for those that bought the book). So talking about board games, $100 trading cards and $500 statues seems like wildly premature ‘cart before the horse’ stuff that all begins to look like an unseemly cash grab.

100 for a BOX of trading cards...sure. A PACK AT THE MOST 4.99

Give me more of a reason to care about the characters for merch

He's basically selling a random sketch card containing original art from a Comicsgate artist for $100, which is theoretically worth more than $4.99, but I don't think is worth more than $50 even if every pack contained an EVS card. But the sad truth is that not every pack contains an EVS card. You might be one of those unfortunate people who spent $100 and gets a [random nobody] sketch card. Whomp whomp.

Ideally, Ethan should have priced it like a box of Magic the Gathering cards. Take the value of each artists' sketch, add them together, and then divide by the total number of sketch cards to come up with an Estimated Pack Value. For example:

2 EVS sketch cards @ $50/each = $100
3 John Malin sketch cards @ $45/each = $135
10 [random nobody] sketch cards @ $10/each = $100
$335 (total value of all sketch cards) divided by 15 (total number of cards) = $22.33 estimated pack value.

Add in additional costs like shipping, production, etc. and you might be able to sell a pack for $30-35.

That said, I haven't bothered to add up the actual value of the sketch cards. I'm just trying to illustrate the methodology one should take in pricing.

edit: Ethan charged $50 for a sketch in his original Cyberfrog campaign, which is why he's at $50 in my example.

And 30-35 dollars for "LOL good luck with what you get" is to much

Yeah, you could do some basic back of a napkin math I suppose... or you could just pull a number out of your arse that you guesstimate (wrongly as it turns out) what's the most I can get before the pay piggies begin to squeal?

Yeah, I'll be open on this: I don't give a rotten fuck about the merchandise that EVS is trying to force. I literally got the comic option because it had the least gift thrown at me and the "best" value out of the lot.
