(CNN)The FBI is responding to the scene of a reported shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, according to Michelle Lee, spokeswoman for the FBI's San Antonio field office.
Local police also have responded to the scene, which occurred at the First Baptist Church, a witness told CNN. The witness, a cashier at a gas station across the street from the church, said she heard about 20 shots being fired in quick succession while a church service was underway.
Sutherland Springs is about 30 miles east of San Antonio.

At least 27 people have been killed and 27 injured in a Texas church shooting today, law enforcement sources told ABC News.
The alleged shooter is dead, and it appears there is no longer an active threat at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, about 40 miles southeast of San Antonio, police told ABC News affiliate KSAT in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon.
The church's pastor, Frank Pomeroy, told ABC his 14yr-old daughter is among the dead. He added she "was one very beautiful, special child."

A person who said she works at a gas station across the street from the church told ABC News she heard rapid gunfire at around 11:15 a.m., leading congregants from the church as well as customers at the station to run inside for cover.
“We heard several shots and we all started running inside the store,” she said.
“It lasted about 15 seconds. I yelled, ‘Get down! Get inside!’ and we all went into hiding,” said the woman, who said she is 49 but declined to give her name.
She said the gas station locked its doors. "We have not reopened,” she said.
She then that within minutes of the gunfire, emergency personnel had arrived at the scene.
“There were officers that were checking the wounded in here were asking them questions,” she said.
Connally Memorial Center in nearby Floresville told ABC News it has received six people from the shooting.
The FBI and ATF are heading to the scene, ABC News has learned.
Outside the church, police have formed a perimeter and flooded the grounds with emergency and police vehicles, according to KSAT.
A small group of people were seen standing together, holding hands as tears overtook an attempt to pray, a KSAT reporter said.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement, "The thoughts and prayers of all Texans are with the people of Sutherland Springs as tragic reports come out of First Baptist Church."
"Please join Angela and me as we pray for those impacted by this horrific shooting,” Paxton said.
Just after 3 p.m. Sunday, President Trump tweeted that he is monitoring Texas church shooting from Japan.
The killer has been identified as Devin Patrick Kelley. He was apparently an atheist and was dishonorably discharged from the military due to woman beating and breaking his stepson's skull.

Raising funds was an urgent priority. Pnina Greenspan was the specialist in this sphere. "We had undercover intelligence," she recalls. "We would locate the affluent Jews in the ghetto, those who had jewels and gold and diamonds in their home. We came to them and asked them nicely. Once, twice, three times. If they wanted, they gave. If they didn't want, they gave anyway."

"Well, there's no need to put it like that. After all, there was no choice. We explained to them that they were all going to die, that their gold would go to the Nazis. They didn't want to understand. What else could we do?"
The uprising itself was also an unglorious business mostly:
The resistance took the Germans by surprise. They were met by explosions, volleys of gunfire, hand grenades and Molotov cocktails. In the first three days of the fighting, Kazik and the others say, the Germans sustained dozens of losses, German tanks were set ablaze and the efforts to launch the Aktion were stymied. According to the testimonies, during this period the Germans did not succeed in removing even one Jew from the ghetto's buildings.
But the euphoria that prevailed among the rebels was shortlived. In the following days the Germans changed their tactics. They started to bomb the ghetto and to set it ablaze systematically. The bunkers and shelters in which the Jews were hiding were made uninhabitable by toxic gas and smoke bombs. In his book, Kazik writes: "Everything was on fire, walls were crashing down. We had to go through burning shops, with flames surrounding us on all sides. The heat was unbearable. Slivers of broken glass in the yards were melted." They covered their faces with wet rags. Finally they reached one of the bunkers, only to find that there was no way out. "People behaved like complete lunatics," losing their humanity, "ready to steal food from one another at gunpoint." He and his companions, he relates, "found ourselves walking on a kind of soft, light ground, like feathers. It was ash with scorched bodies lying on it."
With unflinching candor Kazik describes the moment when he, too, lost his humanity. "Once I came on a heap of bodies and heard a child's weeping. As I approached, I saw a mother's dead body hugging a living infant. I stood still a moment and then went on walking."
Among those who engaged in the liquidations were Frymer, Jacob Putermilch, Edelman and Carmi. In his book, Jacob Putermilch describes one such episode. On April 23, 1943, in the midst of the uprising, a 12-year-old boy revealed to the Germans - in return for food and the promise that he would be allowed to live - that dozens of Jews were hiding in a certain attic. Fortunately, the Germans were unable to locate the site. When the fighters emerged from the attic, they seized the boy, who admitted to having informed on them. "The decision was to liquidate him by shooting," Putermilch writes. "But [a friend of mine] said it was a pity to waste a bullet on him. He took the boy to the entrance to the attic and threw him out."
On April 29 the command staff met to consider the situation. It was decided to send an envoy to the Aryan side, to Antek Zuckerman, who had been dispatched there a week before the uprising began, to represent the ZOB, arrange hiding places for Jews who would make it out of the ghetto, and assist the thousands who were hiding throughout the city. Kazik was chosen for the mission and he was joined by Zalman (Zygmunt) Frydrych, from the Bund. They moved out at night, through a tunnel the ZZW had dug earlier to the Aryan side. However, when they finally reached Zuckerman, after a perilous trek, they were deeply disappointed to discover he had no contingency plan.
"I thought that all I had to do was get to him and brief him about the developments in the ghetto, and Antek would already know what to do," he says. But Antek didn't know. For days, Antek, Zygmunt and Kazik wandered around Warsaw, entering the sewer mains, trying to find an escape route - but in vain. Kazik, wild with despair and concern for his comrades, was exhausted and hungry, a physical and mental wreck. At one point he started to contemplate suicide.
Finally they worked out a plan: They would disguise themselves as Polish members of the underground who wanted to rescue their comrades trapped in the burning ghetto. To that end they would seek - through the mediation of the Polish leftist Krzaczek (Wladyslaw Gajek), who also later organized the escape vehicle - the assistance of the staff of the municipal sanitation department, who would be paid and persuaded they were working to rescue their Polish brethren.
The plan brought about the rescue of dozens of the Warsaw Ghetto rebels. But for many others it was already too late. Zygmunt Frydrych, who went to visit his daughter in the convent where she was being sheltered, was caught and murdered. On May 8, when Kazik entered the sewers with the sanitation workers, he didn't know the Germans were already surrounding the chief bunker of the ZOB at 18 Mila Street, where about 100 fighters, led by Mordechai Anielewicz were staying. Some killed themselves, others tried to burst out but were gunned down at the entrance to the bunker. Only a few survived, after hiding in the depths of the bunker.

The major problem with these shootings are the sensationalist nature. You had experts around Columbine who were saying the media were basically inspiring these things by pushing bodycounts, the brutality of it, all this exhilaration and exploitation. If it was treated as bland. The shooter's name should never be published by the news. They should remain anonymous. If you never get glorified, there is no point to doing it. If you know the story is always going to be treated blandly and boringly, with no chance of glory, this shit wouldn't happen. But humanity doesn't have that sort of control and the news cameras are willing to shove their cameras up the shooter's asshole, so this is what happens.
