I think it's a symptom of current society. Some people are single parents or both parents work to live in some crap shack, the have their Ipads and iphones on payment plans so they can function in society. The kid is given the ipad to keep them quiet.
Parents don't have time for parenting anymore, they are working their ass off and have overtime, they just drop the kid off at childcare, then when they get back youtube will shut them up for the rest of the time.
What happened to the old working parent who wasn't doing overtime out the ass, who was able to pay for their whole family and spend time with them, while the other parent was able to actually raise the children and teach them things?
Why is the family unit like this now?

I was recently introduced to the delightful r/Elsagate. It's pretty much what it says on the tin: conspiracy theory sub surrounding these disturbing videos. The sub has currently exploded in popularity. For all their tinfoil hattery, these people have compiled a shitload of info on this internet phenomenon:

I like the conspiracy theories but I think the real reason for these videos is there are bots in china/india that watch these and give them ad revenue.

There's been a recent rise in interest regarding these videos, with this article written by James Bridle and a few other media appearances seemingly pushing this content into public view.

There's a subreddit, r/Elsagate, that has already been mentioned here - though nutty and autistic in their own right, they've compiled a great deal of information and used their (fairly limited) multimedia skills to spread awareness of this issue. The wannabe-pizzagaters at r/Elsagate may one day be deserving of their very own thread, but for now, I'll borrow from a few posts there in order to highlight something - the idea that this kind of content has either become more disturbing in recent months, or only in recent months people have dug deep enough to notice how disturbing some of it is.
Kiwis, of all people, should be able to identify the traits present in these videos very easily. They're basically softcore porn, fetish content. The subversion of children's media icons for these videos isn't necessarily completely unlike the sexual re-purposing of children's characters by thousands of highly talented artists across the internet in order to produce countless autistic orgasms.
So where does this sexual content created for children lead those who have taken it upon themselves to crawl the darkest reaches of YouTube in order to shed light on these strange and disturbing videos?
Sexualized videos of real children, of course..
This is clearly an abusive situation - even if the child were fully consenting, which she really doesn't seem to be, this would still be a case of adults borderline torturing a child for entertainment and/or sexual gratification. This isn't the only such "butt injection" video, and some have suggested that this recurring theme may be metaphorical in some way; that these strange and highly suspicious videos from the undeveloped world may be using the syringe as a stand-in for a different object of a similar shape, that they could be conscious child grooming material..
Well over a year ago, I posted in this thread about how these videos really seem like a semi-automated process to suck money out of children. Most of these videos are still probably exactly that - but we can't discount the disturbingly sexual nature of some others. Many of these videos could easily be described as grooming material, designed to normalize sexual or other abuse conduct in the minds of children - or even as softcore child pornography, targeting a market of pedophiles hidden ever so slightly beneath the surface of one of the world's most trafficked websites.
Videos such as the one I linked above behind two spoilers have been mass reported since the Elsagate subreddit brought them to the attention of thousands, but they remain untouched by YT staff, as do countless videos that surely violate copyright law and could potentially damage the reputation of the IP holders, in fact. Some see the inaction on the part of authorities and think that this must be some kind of massive corporate conspiracy, others see YT as the incompetent giant that we've grown to love and hate over the last 12 years. Regardless of where you stand, children's YT seems to be drifting from an odd consequence of modern technology, into "multimedia horrorcow" territory. I would encourage those who are curious to browse the top posts on r/Elsagate, even if some are very conspiratorial. I would say that such an endeavor is not for the weak of stomach, but I don't think too many such people would be reading this post right now.
