Well, Adam from YourMovieSucks finally published his belated video about the show:

It's about what you'd expect from him.

I just read an article about Boris Shcberbina, chernobyl wasn't even the worst disaster he dealt with, two years later he led the response to the Armenian earthquake that killed nearly 40000 people.

You could probably make the argument that chernobyl was still the worst due to its potential to ruin a large section of Europe for many, many millennia

God I can't stand him and his nasal as fuck voice, it just grates me. He can't possibly like a tv series that is universally praised and appreciated by the audience and critics thanks to its screenwriting, actors etc. God forbid he enjoys something that the masses like. Also, did we watch the same show? I don't think there are any one dimensional characters, the brilliant thing about Chernobyl's writing is the fact that whether you like it or not you're going to empathise even with the "villains", every single character - no matter their role - is well rounded and complex and so humane.

Liking weird art films is one thing, but the Lion King is among his top 5 movies of all time. My desire to defend Chernobyl from a 7/10 only goes so far but that really puts it into perspective I think.
He's a furry, of course the one Disney Renaissance film featuring nothing but animals is in his top 5. I'm surprised he didn't become one of those zootopia obsessives.

"Cinematography was serviceable"
Someone got so distracted by not having to read subtitles he started jerking to furry porn in another tab and he missed the fantastic continuous shot on the roof (I'm a real sucker for a good continuous shot and those 90 seconds actually had my heart pounding, probably the sound design really) The "cheesy pro-America" stuff he was talking about must've flown over my head, America was barely mentioned and even the KGB director wasn't a totally evil guy, just a man who had a lot of faith in a flawed system.

My husband and I got an HBO free trial just to watch it and it'll probably be our show of the year (considering we hardly watch any shows at this point it might be our only show of the year) I will definitely keep a DVD copy around to let family and friends borrow once they become available.

Reminder that not only does this moron place Lion King of all things as his fave movie, it's literally only because it was his "first sexual experience" since he wanted to fuck Scar. He legit doesn't understand the emotions or passion behind film or TV. He just wants to fuck poor doggos and lions.

Maybe that's why he rated it so poorly, there's an episode about killing pets after all.

To be truthful, I have seen Adam rave over movies, only for him to declare them 7/10. It's like the ratings he gives his films has only a nebulous connection to his critique of them. I'll watch his reviews because he'll say funny things sometimes, but his tastes and mine are so different, I can't really use his reviews as any sort of gauge as to whether I'll like the movies they're critiquing or not.

I'm definitely going to have to give this another watch at some point. I enjoyed it the first time around, but reading this thread and seeing all these great conversations about it makes me realize how much I missed on the first viewing.
I'm finally watching this for the first time. I honestly think that "Period dramas with Jared Harris" may be my favorite genre of television now.
Funnily enough, I've had Season 1 of The Terror DVR'd and been meaning to watch it for a while, and seeing Jared Harris in Chernobyl finally got me around to starting it (another great show BTW).

The Russian revisionist miniseries produced in response to HBO's Chernobyl uploaded their trailer to Youtube, but it was downvoted into oblivion and they deleted the video. Apparently people didn't like the CIA sabotage plotline and the poor production quality. I don't know how to get Cyrillic characters from Latin keyboard, so I am not having any luck finding any backup or mirrors of the trailer, unfortunately.

What's the romanized spelling? I'll see what I can find.
