There are a LOT of people who think they know guns because they played a lot of video games, watched a lot of movies, and are avid viewers of Gun Jesus. They think they suddenly know everything there is to know about firearms but wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between a soft point and a JHP. And when someone comes along who knows what they're talking about, instead of shutting up and learning something new, they take it as a personal attack on them and get all salty. It's kinda sad.

I've been shooting my whole life. I've hunted, carried firearms for work, carried for personal protection, and I've even worked in the industry for a while for a local manufacturer. I would never be so arrogant as to call myself a firearms expert, but it is arguably the one subject that I know the most about. Anytime I've ever met someone who knew more than I do, I would do my best to learn from them so my own base of knowledge would grow. I guess some people just can't get past their own pride.

I'm another ballistic plate believer. It's not unheard of for bullets to act in totally bizarre and unpredictable ways, but the ballistic plate theory just goes pretty far to explain a lot of the seeming inconsistencies with the story and I believe it's born out by the video. It appears to me that the round deflects off the top edge of a steel or titanium plate, enters Kirk's throat and travels up into his cranial cavity, killing him instantly.

There are legitimate security reasons that Kirk's people would not want to reveal that he was wearing a plate.

But like I said bullets are crazy sometimes so it's not impossible that he was shot directly in the neck and the bullet didn't leave the body, and I could be totally wrong. It's all just speculation in the end.

Your arbitrary labeling is not how educated conversations about bullets and ballistics are conducted. 30-06 is in fact a fuck off powerful round, objectively. Its benchmark of performance is literally used to distinguish it as such by the NIJ and military contract requirements and R&D.

I believe in the right to a fair trial, even for this murderous scum. He will stand before the podium of justice and admit his injustice to the entire world, with the shame of it preserved as eternal proof of this world's failures. • He's going to be kept under suicide watch until his trial. This is pretty much a given, but he's going to be locked in a cell with nothing but a tear-proof smock and one of those stainless steel toilet/sink combos. He won't have any human interaction aside from the guards and his public defender.
• The State of Utah integrated their death row inmates with the regular population. So once the trial's over, he'll be allowed to interact with the rest of the inmates who might not be fans of his. Mutt's Law might get invoked.

Personally I think the only way he makes it to his execution date is if he gets put in solitary confinement. But regardless of how things go, the rest of his life will be nothing but pure misery.

I'm not going to get too autistic about this, but there are also frames in the video where you can clearly see the outline of something he's wearing under his shirt, and like I said, there would be legitimate security reasons for not revealing he was wearing a plate or what type it was.

If he wasn't wearing a plate and the round entered his throat directly, without exiting the body, then that is absolutely an exceptional case and is not something I would expect to see. But I'll say it again, exceptional cases can and do happen and bullets act in bizarre ways sometimes so it is possible.

Semi-technically .30cal is what you refer to as a "full power" round. .308/7.62 have excellent muzzle energy for their proportions.

The calibers you listed are fairly boutique.


You are way far out of your element on this. You neck is all muscle, one of the denser parts of your body. There is no way a FMJ, soft, or hollow point 30-06 is dumping all its energy in 6" of flesh.

That's the point. Muscle isn't rigid and a good bit of energy can be dispersed, with a vertebrae in the spine stopping the softpoint.

Unless you believe there is some conspiracy and Kirk wasn't shot by 30-06 then that's what exactly happened. There is no reason to to really lie about it, unless the coroner is retarded and there was an exit wound. It could have vaporized most of his vertebrae but lost enough energy to not exit.

Who knows I could be wrong but I've taken dozens of deer over the years with everything from 308, 303 brit, 6.5 carcano, 7.62x54r, 30-06 and even 300 win mag. I've seen soft points (only round I hunt with) do some weird unexplainable shit over the years.

Well, if you'll tolerate one more boring post from me... Everything I'm saying is assuming that we have a properly stabilized FMJ fired from a properly loaded cartridge. There is certainly a number of factors that can affect that. So yes, in the end bullets do do very weird things, but a betting man wouldn't be wise to assume they do weird things.
