The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking comments from the public until June 22 to a proposal made earlier in 2026 to encourage American businesses to take call centre jobs back to the US and improve customer service at existing call centres.

Among the measures being discussed are ways to encourage and facilitate basing call centres in the US, requiring service providers to disclose the location of the call centre during customer interactions, and requiring call centre workers to be proficient in American Standard English as well as trained appropriately to resolve US customers’ problems.

If I recall correctly a lot of customer service did get outsourced to Canada for a while, one of my sisters did support for AT&T for a while. But it sounds like they are explicitly saying that customer service needs to be US, it just the North American continent.

Something interesting of note: my parents are planning to sell the house but they have just discovered that because they have poly-b plumbing they literally cannot sell it until the plumbing is ripped out and replaced, because poly-b is considered defective and liable to burst at any time so it cannot be insured. And replacing the pipes will be expensive and the house cannot be insured for a mortgage without them being replaced.

Based on some research poly-b was used for a LOT of homes that boomers currently own, and a good portion of boomers who were sitting on their house expecting to make it their retirement fund may be in for a shock to when they find they have a massive repair bill before they can even put it on the market.

1. You can’t trust a boomer to do it properly and it has to be checked by an inspector
2. You will often have to rip out walls to get to the pipes.
 
A shooting happened in the Cote des Neiges area of Montreal today.

Montreal police (SPVM) say one officer is dead and another is in critical condition following reports of a shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood.

Shortly before 1:45 p.m., the SPVM confirmed that one of the officers was killed. A civilian also died in the altercation, and the suspect was killed.

Officers were called to the scene at11:35 a.m. at the corner of Courtrai and Trans Island avenues, and an emergency alert urging people to shelter-in-place was issued.

Anyone within the borders of Côte-des-Neiges Road, MacDonald Street, Highway 40 and Queen Mary is being asked to shelter in place. Others are asked to avoid the area.

Like our news would ever point out the cop was a woman. Anyway I don't really blame her; partner was shot right in front of her, the gunman was coming from that direction, (seconds later comes around the exact same corner,) and it looked as if all the bystanders were long gone. I don't even understand where that poor fat fuck came from.
