I still have a hard time believing the fact that a large number of Canadians genuinely think America is going to invade them because Trump banter about making them the 51st state. At first I thought it was just performative for their team to win the election, but the hysteria continues... and is even growing.

It's funny but also kinda sad to be honest. The whole thing started because Trudeau went sniveling behind the scenes to Trump about tariffs and said even 10% would be the end of the Canadian economy, and Trump being Trump told him well why don't you become 51st state if thats the case. Now that's morphed to Canadians mindlarping orange dawn and trying to relate to Ukraine as soul brothers.

Even if Trump wanted to (believe it or not no one actually wants a poorer, lefter California added to the union to ruin our elections) it's just not even a conceivable possibility. Not only would it be political genocide of his party, but the military itself would just refuse. Maybe Canadians deep down really want an excuse to start killing Americans, but it's definitely not the case the other way around, no matter how insufferable you get.

At the end of the day canadians double and triple down on this hysteria because they desperately want to be relevant.

There are distasteful politicians of all political spectrums and I hate them but the ones advocating for removing the ability to criticize the government, it's policies and the brown hordes it is intent on replacing the citizens of Canada with should face any and all consequences.

This will never happen in the Boomer Republic of Canukistan but one can dream. I hate dooming and black pilling but in the past 16 or so years literally nothing has improved in this country, it has only either stagnated or gotten worse. The decline is depressing and ignoring the decline is literally impossible unless you never set foot outside.

One bright spot (even if worth the rainbows) is that C-22 in particular has already been identified as running right through numerous Charter rights that the feds, unlike the provinces, are not permitted to sidestep with the NWC. It will be seeing a Supreme Court case at some point and is unlikely to survive the challenge. Of course that means fuck and all to the Libs (they love ignoring court mandated legislation rewrites), but quite impressive how quickly Carney is speedrunning collecting political baggage.

Nawh this strategy doesn't work with a Dem administration because the Dems don't give any public cover for it (all of Biden's aggression for example was kept firmly out the public eye). Trump's 51st state pokes allow the Libs to play to elbows up, and his being a Republican administration synergizes with simultaneously pushing the Cons down. The Libs need an openly combative Washington that isn't Democrat to make it stick.

It's just one strategy though; if 2028 sees a Dem win the Libs will simply go back to their old faithfuls of abortion and gun control for wedge issues.

I tried the chat and it's a fucked up AI that is unhelpful, and i tried the phone number which brought me to a fucked up ai that got super confused about what i wanted until it finally brought me to a human, who after a long period of silence said it was a billing issue and then gave me a number to call, which was just an automated number saying that number was out of service and redirecting me to another number, which had another automated system that glitched and hung up on me.

Reminds me of a similar experience I had contacting Eastlink this year, their online chat bot at one point randomly ended chat with me when my issue wasn't super easy to resolve, and then I had to go through the phone labyrinth just to end up with bots that couldn't resolve any of my issues. Eventually I found out their system would automatically connect me to a human if I let it time out when the voiced bot was asking me questions. Finally, they came by to fix my stuff on the next weekday, but I think they honestly just had a switch flipped in the office because I was waiting at home and I did not hear a single thing outside the house and my internet just started working suddenly and they called me to tell my it was working right after.
