UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Speaking of recent news about Labour passing laws in exchange for money
The hunting ban's an interesting one because they had to invoke the Acts of Parliament to pass it, essentially making it so the Commons were legislating without the consent of the Lords. It's only one of 7 times that's happened, although another 2 of those were also under Blair - the others were the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1999 (making it so EU elections were closed list - you voted for a party, not a candidate) and the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000 (changing the age of consent for gay sex from 18 to 16 to match heterosexual sex, in light of an ECHR ruling).

They are also trying ban trail hunting currently.
Trail hunting is a funny topic because realistically how many people actually take part in it? It's really only a sport enjoyed by posh boys and from personal experience I'd often hear them on the hunt when growing up or at the pub afterwards. This is just out of pure spite for the upper class as realistically trail hunting keeps the fox population under control (more so with how restrictive it is as is) and is a mostly harmless sport enjoyed by the exact types of people Labour hates.

Oh won't you think of the poor little animals? We need to make sure that every wild animal in this country is never harmed in it's life ever. Every rabbit needs to be kissed and every deer needs to be given a 5* gourmet dinner every sunday on the taxpayer's back. NO DO NOT FUCKING ASK ABOUT BANNING HALAL SLAUGHTER THATS DIFFERENT OK BECAUSE IT JUST FUCKING IS SHUT UP FUCKING RETARD CUNT.

I just assume that all of these people that want to ban this sort of shit assume that if we never touched anything in nature that everything would all be happy and fine and there would be no issues at all. Naive hippie types. At least the ones that aren't flat out corrupt.

I've heard that in some parts of England the foxes are now getting into people's trash cans for food, same way racoons do in the USA.

I don't give a toss about the bloody badgers m8 I h8 the poshos 'cos they're twats about it, we are not the same :eli:
Maybe if they chased after them on foot/actually did anything other than ponce about looking gay I'd be a bit more sympathetic, but no, they're just cunts exerting "rights" that they have no right to, fuck 'em,

They can't compete with the rats in most places, urban foxes have been a thing since forever though, urban deer in some places too which is just freaky if you really think about it; there's millions of the buggers due a complete lack of natural predation.

He'll be happier when they release him into the Jungle.
He deserves Siberia, polar bears are going hungry because all the nasty CO₂ the UK released under Lammy's tenure. He should apologise to them personally.
Imagine back stabbing your former boss to try and hold onto power with the next prime minster, only for him to give you the boot day 1.
Good bye Lammy, mastermind of the Starmer Government and good bye Rachel thieves.
I was about to call you out on calling him a mastermind, but then I looked at how bad the rest of the cabinet were.
Still, I'm glad he's gone, I guess I no longer have to pretend to be 華僑 online any more.

I briefly lived on a farm, and it was horrific seeing the inside of the chicken shed after a fox got in.
Killing one out of hunger, I'd understand, but the sheer mindless slaughter was disgusting.

I've never seen it myself, but my dad and my grandad had seen the aftermath and described it exactly as you have.

What is the saying "You shoot traitors before you shoot the enemy"?

You step out of your front door and see this coming towards you. What do you do?
I think to myself, "What an odd couple!". They honestly look like they could be married. They have that vibe about them.

Urban foxes have been a thing for quite a while. I found my mother's cat was fighting one out in the garden back in the early 2000s. I believe it was trying to kill the cat. The nasty little bugger was chasing the cat all the way to the door until it spotted me. The cat was quite relieved to be indoors.

Pretty much my take on this too. Actual hunting is manly, more humane and you can do something with the kill. Their hunting is faggot shite, using dogs to kill something into an unsalvageable mess and is more than likely just a way to act out their fantasy of sadism legally.

Oh God. My heart goes out to the world's ambassadors to the UK, knowing that is the face they'll be meeting with to discuss matters.
Take heart that, as far as millipede is concerned, this is actually something of a sidelining. He's removed from a powerful and largely unaccountable brief, which was wreaking havoc on the economy, and has instead been placed into a relatively constrained one, at least in terms of the goals Mad Ed actually wants to pursue. He can't pave over the entire country with windmills and solar panels at the FCO, and he's not going to have much luck convincing China or India to do it instead. Whatever hold he has over Labour HQ, it's now enough to keep him in the cabinet, but not enough to keep him in a position to continue demolishing the country.

I cannot understand anyone thinking Burnham is the answer. Remember all the squeals about Boris not being elected, this fucker wasn’t even an MP and yet barely a peep. There’s near 400 labour mps in parliament and for some reason this clown needs to come parading in despite having a mediocre political career as is?

This whole thing will crash and burn, he’ll have no way to manoeuvre, balancing the competing wings of the Labour Party is impossible. The country needs to go hell for leather on unleashing growth which is going to take some unpalatable things. Burnham has not got that in him and I don’t what has happened to make anyone think he does, He will limp on though as he’s a venal upward striver, he’d rather drag the country down clinging onto power than call a general election

The retarded British worship of foxes is hilarious. They're wild predatory animals. They'll kill and eat whatever they can.

My God Brits are stupid

I dunno, doesn't he now have dominion over MI6? So now he can waste valuable SIS resources on 'green spying' and all sorts of other bullshit
