A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Burnham is just trying to throw out chum to garner any scrap of popularity he can. Digital ID was an expensive panharminomicom fever dream crafted by Fabians that cannot truly be installed without actual resistance. The UK would lose many companies, and most international residents would flee. Starmer said the project was cheap, but it was not; each profile PER PERSON on the low end was going to cost about £200 TO CREATE. There was nothing about the gargantuan maintenance costs. It would easily cost 20 billion.

The IMF has told him he cannot spend, so even before a cabinet is declared, he is fucked.

I can understand a PM rolling back legislation from a different party, but this retard thinks the public will be supportive of rolling back shit that was introduced mere MONTHS ago without questioning WHICH FUCKING PARTY INTRODUCED IT.

Technically the OSA was a Tory party policy that Labour chose to continue with (because uniparty) although obviously that's not the same as actual digital ID.

Andy does appear to be fronting he's the anti-Starmer - I don't trust he's going to be much different, but yes, he might be saying "I'm going to roll back Starmer era policies and transform the Labour Party into something that more closely conforms to the manifesto" and that is an internally consistent statement. A lot of his campaign hinged on "everyone hates Starmer" so it's not crazy for him to disavow Starmer's policies, especially as he has the excuse he wasn't an MP (much less in Cabiney) at the time. The fact he's nixing the VPN stuff is a positive for now, although as others have observed he might do something more surreptitious.

as you rightly say, he wants to be seen DOING something, or at the very least, SAYING he's going to do something to oust the sentiment of starmer-esque flip-flopping and never committing to a single damn policy.

its all promo. all internal politicking in that party for the past 5 years and similar 'left' parties [i really do hesitate to say that abt labour now...] are a woeful mix of virtue signalling mixed with the inclusion of right wing 'traditionalist' policies in order to garner support from an increasingly burgeoning right wing who are very vocal abt their beliefs. they know there's a massive gap in there to garner votes. its why starmer referenced the british fascist party in his speech abt immigration. ha. spineless git.

ESPECIALLY after the catastrophic last local council elections. all countries in the uk were hit hard. esp in england, but wales, for example, which has been a labour majority stronghold for DECADES since their parliament formed in 1999, for the first time had no majority party. plaid cymru [left wing nationalist party] won, but not with a majority. labour esp dealing with stagnation and disapproval is foaming at the mouth to establish any sort of credibility. its why burnham is such a great choice. you take a 'local lad' from 'up north' with reasonable experience, glossing over his bullshit in the blair era that younger voters won't be knowledgeable abt, throw in a few popular policies people have been asking for decades for and a rollback on bullshit ones and a lack of capacity to dissent who's PM again by the public and boom. perfect storm.

i fucking guarantee you, though, all his talk of 'being a PM for 'all of the nation'' is complete and utter horseshit. i don't feel optimistic considering his earlier political career in parliament. something something people change, but i'm less than optimistic. sorry if this is a redux of my earlier point, just wanted to elaborate on a few things. at least in my local personal bitching labour have been much more willing to suck my balls to sort out local issues when i've emailed, but i email everyone because i like to annoy them to actually do shit. theyre rly trying to claw back credibility, esp with my age demographic. Honestly the more I watch modern football the more I think there should be an strict limit on non-British footballers on British soil.

Imagine you're a Liverpool fan and MacAllister (funny name for a fucking Argie) dives and wins a penalty that knocks England out of the World Cup. He then has to go back to Liverpool and Liverpool fans have to hold their tongue about the cheating fucking dago because he's THEIR cheating fucking dago. How can an English Liverpool or Chelsea or Man City fan really say that the team inspires them when it's 70% foreigners from Um Bongoland with only a slither of a tie to England? Half the fucking clubs in England would have their remaining few England players tied to a post and shot if it meant they could get another £100m from Uzberkistan for Premier League rights.

Everyone who fell for the air-to-water "heat pump" scam is now potentially facing the prospect of having their heating turned off in the winter during times of high load on the grid. This is how they intend to avoid rolling blackouts, due to undersupply and instability, caused by unreliable wind and solar. In winter, demand is highest when a high pressure system is sat over the country, which causes clear skies, cool temperatures, and slack wind conditions. That means no wind turbines, even off-shore a lot of the time. And of course, solar is not going to supply more than a trickle.

I am old enough to remember becoming disillusioned with Tony Blairs when he first tried to introduce ID cards, which is not a fraction as Orwellian as what they’re trying to pull now.

Of course, the reality has changed so much since then that we really should be using ID to vote, but the forms we have already are fine, thanks.

I could see "Restrictions are in place for Whitehall" or "Special conditions are in effect for Whitehall", but "Conditions are in place on Whitehall" just sounds like ESL niggerbabble.
I suppose I should be grateful it's not in Urdu.
