UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

But they would have left, that’s a good outcome.
Is it? They've left that area not the country. They will just be shuffled around until eventually they end up in some tiny village where the migrants outnumber the actual residents and so can't really do anything about it. Now there's just another house open for a new migrant family to be shoved into. Nothing has changed aside from the specific people living there. This is not a win and you should not get complacent thinking that you have 'won' here.
If you cared about the distinction between wanting him dead and wanting him to have a massive penis, you better get it right
The best part about being English is I can just fucking say whatever I want and everyone would understand. The only people that would read hung and think of cock are foreigners or redditor bnwo faggots. What I say is correct English because I create it. I don't follow 'correct' English that's the other way around.

Off topic question but why does my webpage crash after I try and see certain attatchments? Its happened before and now it's happening with that headline above @Heinrich Maneuver.

It's amazing how mainstream confidence in the Polis plummeted in a matter of months. Every officer used to defend a nonce is one less officer on the street protecting people. This is the ultimate act of undermining trust in the legal system.

I also can't wait to see the by election between Binface and Nationalist Zoomer. I guess that Nigel bloke is also standing as well.

If you are struggling with the native language there are numerous courses and classes you can take, especially if you are a recent arrival and looking for a helping hand.

What do you think of the CCP?

How does one inconspicuously steal hundreds if not thousands of pallets?
One does not ask a pikey how he steals.
It happens every year and facebook is full of people complaining about shit being stolen. I assume industrial parks and construction sites just leave their pallets out like milk and cookies on Christmas for the prods and hope they don't start tearing out the electrical wiring instead.

There are companies whose whole job is rounding up pallets and reselling them. A large amount are disposed of because they get damaged or worn out. In NI, instead of chipping them, the companies save them up all year to donate to this event. Plus everyone with a van picking up any pallet that isn’t nailed down.

I’ve always thought it’s a bit backwards but you have to respect that they’re still getting away with it in 2026 and the effigies are increasingly valid.

That’s a lot of pallets

They are getting away with it because they don't want to have to deal with angry mobs that don't get to light a wood tower in fire.
