UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It works just fine, you're just using a shitty VPN that's been flagged as sus
I have tried about 20 times on probably 10 different occasions to make either a gmail or proton mail account through tor. Not one has worked. What you think I haven't tried shit? Trying a different node or whatever is the first thing I did and it does not help.

Let me just check right now. And just as I thought. Proton I cannot even fucking attempt to start making an account because it blocks me from even checking if an email address is available. Swap nodes and it's the same shit. Three times. Nothing. Gmail I can get an email put in my totally real name and birthday and all that shit. And then oh you just need to do one more step just verify by scanning this qr code with your phone we totally won't scrape your information from that phone. But nah it works totally fine.

bruh :eli2:You are doing it wrong buddeh, you're supposed to use McDonalds wi-fi, I am not joking, this is basic 80's tradecraft style shit come ooon.
If you've got so much to hide then you need to up you game, it's very easy to get around with the dead-baby identity theft borrowing method, not that I would ever advocate taking out a mortgage or getting a passport in the name of a dead baby but you probably could if you were so inclined (and people often do, and even get approved lol).

I suppose you'd rather a more chemical solution, mr Operation Gladio? :eli2:
Symptom? ha! Our gov being totalitarian shitters isn't a mere viral infection, I actually have to fucking live here m8 and prefer to do so the best way I can, there is no dignity in suffering.
I'm not judging you for using workarounds. I'm judging you for handwaving away someone else's righteous indignation when having to complete an ever expanding laundry list of tasks to exercise his God-given right to shitpost online. Next you'll be happily dressing up as two guys in a trenchcoat with a fake ID to buy a 1 GB sim card (the legal limit) to allow temporarily unsupervised internet access.

There's nothing wrong with a good old whine, but leaving it at whining to declare there's no way around it is a form of procrastination, it's not a handwave; it's a good old smack.
There's no such thing as a God-given right, God gives fuck all, we only have what we can take, inshallah I'll be taking a lot more before I ever have to pay for a wanking loicense. Which is more than amerimutts can say they've yet taken, with their tagged and branded buttholes being fully Flock'd/Palantir'd way ahead of us mere Anglos :smug:
Fake racist. What you're in the British thread and you want to shitpost slurs online through the mcdonalds wifi instead of Gregg's?
I respect Gregg's too much to use up their bandwidth like that, there's only a limited supply you know.

Ok yea. Let me just accept that I have to spent yet more fucking money on yet another service just to do something that is literally just my human fucking rights without the government arresting me for something that has been explicitly said I am perfectly within my rights to say. Because the government stealing half my fucking money and then demanding I pay them a subscription to just own a house and a car and then spend even more on fucking extortionately priced food and electricity and heating and the dog and fucking everything else.

I told you one of the easiest methods that I know of currently that makes it difficult for them. I don't care either way what you do.

Alternatively, you could just install the Tor browser bundle (which is just downloading from their site) and log into the farms on the Tor endpoint. It literally takes a few minutes. You literally just load up kiwifarms.st, and then it will suggest the Tor endpoint. Bookmark that in the Tor browser. Done.

You can learn all of this on YouTube, and it can be done on Linux, MacOS, Windows, or "Phone OS".
Yea let me just buy some crypto. Oh ok so I need to first give them my credit card details. Well that's already defeated the point. Maybe I can find some irl machine to push cash into. That's fair. Oh now I need to go through a kyc process to do anything with it, of course that involves giving them way more information than just using the first google chrome extension result for vpns will harvest from me. Or maybe I should just finally get a better computer and mine some crypto and do it that way. Yea hold on let me just have a quick look at the market. How is literally every fucking component price doing I wonder?
Monero cannot be tracked. Doesn't matter how you bought it. It is not BTC. Also, with Mullvad, it doesn't matter if it is BTC. They have detailed information on how they store payment information and for how long. I just rotate my ID every so often.

Mullvad, BTW, has been summoned to supply evidence to courts and gave them zero logs. So there is state evidence backing up Mullvad's claims.
don't want a fucking vpn or tor or crypto or fake gmails or any of that shit. I want to just fucking laugh at some retards and talk to people about this country and life in general on a level above that of a fucking child for the most part. I'm a simple man. I have a nice woman and I have a dog that I've wanted since childhood. I should be happy right now. Yes work fucking sucks but the people I work with at least make the physical pains worth it. I should be happy. But somehow despite that the government can still fucking find a way to fuck all of that up. I don't want to do any of this shit any more than I want to hire a personal armed security guard. It should not be something I have to even consider. But hey I could have all of that for fucking free and not have to work if I was just a fucking paki and came here illegally. Isn't that just wonderful?
They aren't going to care about this diatribe, and quite frankly, I don't care either. Take a break from the internet if you are getting this wound up.

All I am going to tell you is that tech needs to be created/promulgated that makes it as difficult for them and as costly for them as possible. So any prohibition on tech is massively costly for them and costs nothing for us to circumvent. They have already lost this once with the torrent sites. This was done via clever use of existing tech.

Personally, I don't care what the British government does. I will have to get more creative. I personally hope they make it as difficult as possible. I love a challenge.

I got wound up 10 years ago when I started seeing this stuff come through the pipeline. I cannot influence what they do; I can only influence my own actions.

This is a classic case of autistics (severe) thinking that because they mitigated the symptoms of a problem, they've solved the problem. The complaint obviously isn't about if you can get around an authoritarian government fucking with you. It's about the indignity of being treated like a chinese peasant for merely following the law.
It got nothing to do with that. You are effectively in the middle of the arms race between those of us that don't care for these laws and "the state" in general. They have the ISPs, they have the laws, the police, trillion-dollar US companies, etc. We have VPNs, Linux ISOs, Tor, SimpleX, Monero and a bunch of other stuff to circumvent.

You can either whine about it being unpleasant/undignified or whatever, or you can make it as difficult for them as possible to enforce. I don't care what you do. I've decided my course of action.

@femboy fart huffer Why don't you just buy a burner sim for a quid at a physical shop, get a proton account, add a recovery email, remove the phone number from the account and then use their VPN for free? Seems like a really easy problem to solve to me. Proton and Mullvad both offer great VPN services, but if you're tight fisted, Proton is what you want. It just works.

One of the interesting situations that's going to crop up from this is that by requiring ID that matches your account, it's basically going to filter trannies from the internet, as well as teachers, public sector workers, police etc. who use a fake name on social media.

Another one that the government seems to be ignoring is that the internet is a containment centre. Yes it can result in people arranging mass gatherings etc. but it's much safer for a schizo to post hate on X than cut them off from the internet where they might start 'taking things offline'.

Calling it now, some afghan will cite the social media ban for their sexual emergency.

Late, but she looks like someone left Boris Johnson in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Imagine the smell!

I do wonder what will happen when they go cold turkey. A lot of them are used to TikTok, Snapchat etc on their phones, so it's not necessarily as simple as downloading Mullvad, because the attempted US ban demonstrated those apps seemingly function based off of SIM card region.
On paper they could all just get an older brother to unlock it, because in theory the ID verification wouldn't be retaining IDs to compare between users as it'd be a huge security risk.... in theory. Goodness knows what will actually be in this bill.
If all these kids suddenly don't have access to their distractions of choice... there'll be an awful lot of bored teenagers with very few outlets. It's not like there's really youth centres and the like any more.

Maybe there’ll be some really fucking horrible outcomes like kids chucking their all into creativity like wot used to happen back in the sepia toned days of garage bands. Though it’ll probably be terrible ‘rap’ and a Nokia 3010 ring tone for a song, but at least they’ll be doing something constructive. Boredom leads to idiocy but it also leads to some interesting and creative ways to pass time.

I joke. The crime rate will go through the roof.

Then the government will ban unaccompanied minors from being outside after 8pm without a letter from Mummy and Daddy.

Don’t forget to be home before the street lights come on! Assuming they’re not switched off in your area to save electricity.

“I’ve been raped”

“Don’t think you have, luv”

I’ll just view it as one of those things like that cameras where they suddenly did a 180 because it turns out this big surveillance et they spent a fortune putting up “could be used to foster discrimination against minorities”

I have never used this site from anything other than tor. If I didn't feel safe doing it then I simply wouldn't do it. That does not mean it's a good thing. Having to jump through endless hoops just because some cunt in london doesn't like the facts of immigrants being more likely to be rapists doesn't mean you should just roll over and normalise it. My privacy and rights are things that I should simply just have. I should not have to worry about those being infringed upon by the government because they just feel like it. Just like everything else wrong with this country. I don't want to wear a stab vest and carry my own 'legally not a weapon' weapon. I want to simply just hang the people that did it and get rid of the immigrants that are most likely to do it. I do not want to adapt to an issue I want rid of the issue.

I don't want a hard life. I don't want using the internet to need countless services, same for any recreational thing. If I want to be challenged it's because I want a satisfying challenge not a government infringing on my rights. If I want a challenge I'm downloading darksouls not trying to fight the government. I want to enjoy life in my nice little house with my nice little wife and my nice not so little dog without the government trying to ruin literally everything that I interact with. I'm not going to go start eating rhubarb leaves because I find taking a piss to easy and I want a challenge am I?

It's England. Look at literally any time throughout history. People didn't just roll over and say "well I will just have to adapt to this tax hike". They rolled out the guillotine and got rid of the cause of the problem. You are being corralled. You are being kettled. They are trying to split legal and government approved from legal but not government approved in half so it is easier to clamp down on that second group. Just accept the vpns and tor and then just accept the immigrants too and wear the mask and make sure you inform the police if you want to go see your grandma.

Whether you personally can skirt laws or whatever doesn't matter. What the government has done and is currently doing is unforgivable. Needing a vpn or tor or anything like that is not normal and you shouldn't not be pissed off simply because it doesn't affect you personally.

As I told you. I gave you advice on how to solve the problem you complained about; if you don't follow and instead whine, that is your prerogative. I don't care what you do either way.
I have already solved the problem. That is not the issue. The problem is that the fucking issue exists in the first place.

Go tell Null that you don't give a shit that he's been blacklisted from banking and payment processors simply because you can use crypto instead.

As I have already explained to you, you cannot in any way affect the outcome by whining about it, like you are.

It is really difficult to tell generally what you have and haven't solved because, between any concrete information you may provide, there is a bunch of incoherent whining, then a paragraph of drivel involving something about your girlfriend, a dog and some pakis.
Go tell Null that you don't give a shit that he's been blacklisted from banking and payment processors simply because you can use crypto instead.
Go and build your straw man somewhere else.

For all the worrying that people here are having, as long as you're doing the basic shit of using Tor + a VPN and not posting identifiable information on this website, you'll almost certainly be fine. Unless you're making actionable threats or posting instructions on making things that go boom (like that one guy we had ITT a few months back), the average government-hired internet janny has fuck all reason to bother with the relative inconvenience of going after you. Especially when there's thousands and thousands much easier targets, in the form of grannies and deanos leaving various "SEND THE BROWNS BACK" messages on their public Facebook accounts or in the comments section of their local newspapers online articles, with their full names and addresses attached. Just don't be a retard and use basic opsec, which I hope you're all already doing.

The bigger worry is whether large websites will bend the knee to Starmers demands and implement these checks, or if they'll tell him to go fuck himself and simply just block UK users. Because if they bend the knee, then that'll be a real issue.
Green Party seems to be in support of the ban without outright saying it, or am I misreading? (X)

'a blanket ban could leave some young people... more isolated... need to see real investment in youth services' - if the ban goes ahead, we need youth clubs and more support for fags. 'the void that will be created by this ban' they aren't calling for the ban to be reversed. 'stronger safeguards' and 'tougher action'? Need to 'guard against potentially more dangerous platforms setting up'?
No, they just want their tranny grooming websites to be left unblocked and easily accessible while all the alt-right fascist nazi bigot websites are banned for the youths (and later banned entirely). Also something about "mo' money fo' dem programs", as the yanks would say.
