Nope! Perfectly reasonable animu characters with depth that ranges from shallow or ridiculous to Actually Pretty Deep.

Sounds like you don't understand how important it is to the game development process to go on Twitter and bitch about Xenoblade.

The only thing for her to bitch about in Xenoblade is a female party member having obviously shoe-horned in romantic feelings for a male party member when her character works better without the poor attempt at a love triangle. That, however, doesn't show up until you're a good 30 hours into the game, and it's been established that Wu put it away immediately after the opening cinematic and is just making up bullshit.

1. Xenochronicles Men

2. AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR MALE PRIVILEGE LESSONS WITH BRIANNA WU

3. Strong female characters: frequently mean displaying traits that are marked as masculine, such as committing violence

Frank Wu makes bank from his pharmaceutical gig. I think it depends on how much more money he feels like pissing away. Do they even have a staff anymore or has Wu
driven everyone away? Wu is probably content with just
getting speaking engagements and Twitter attention. He's like
Sarah Palin, he'll only do as much as required to get
attention before quitting.
I'm getting conflicting data on what Frank Wu actually does. Is he a researcher or a patent troll? Both?
No self-respecting lawyer would have hair like that and few scientists would because it's a potential fire hazard.

This is not a trait reserved for "strong female characters"

Strong female characters are entirely just independent female characters who act for themselves. "Committing violence" is a superficial viewpoint that I'm not surprised Brianna Wu latches onto.

There are numerous examples of strong female characters who do not commit violence. Just like there are examples of strong male characters who don't commit violence.

The problem is when you discuss video games you also have to get into a subject about violence. It's the nature of the medium and one you have to get used to. But a character does not and should not be seen as "strong" just because they can harm or kill other characters.

After seeing what Wu has been saying and trying (and failing) to find consistent ethos in any of it, Wu seems to have no idea what actual feminism is, and is instead basing everything on a shallowly interpreted anti-male stereotype.

To me, it just stacks up as more damning proof Wu assumed his views would attain respect as those of a woman once he got the surgery to vaguely resemble one.

I think Wu was trying to make the same point which is why she brought the sailormoon counter-example but she didn't express herself very clearly. But who knows what's going on in her head anyway maybe I'm wrong.

Is pretty bad because the triangle depends of a character that is missing from half of the game and her interactions with the hero were "awkward one sided crush". If anything, if she would bother to continue the game, she could get points in how that character ends being better as a motivational to get the hero going than being interesting compared with the other females in the party.

It just pisses me off because all the female characters have arguably the best story arcs in the game. Hell, the entire plot is moved forward because of who/what they are, and everyone recognizes their strength and the power of their convictions.

You know, I can't recall Shulk ever saving Fiora's life, but she saved his multiple times.

I don't think she'll get past the first fight with Metal Face. She'll scream about how Fiora's death is "WOMYN IN REFRIGERATORS" (aka their go to argument when anything bad happens to a female character regardless of context), conveniently forgetting that Fiora distracted Metal Face long enough to save Shulk's life. Not to mention that she wouldn't go far enough in the game to see that Fiora gets better.

That, or she'll scrub up the fight and claim the game is "TOO HARD FOR WOMYN."

I'll be surprised if she gets that far.

I mean, for God's sake, Fiora was literally butchered by both Metal Face and Egil and still finds the strength to keep going. Most of her internal organs were removed when she was put in the Face Mechon. She spends almost the entire game dying, slowly and painfully, but she holds her head high and does what needs to be done.

And of course Brianna will never, ever get to experience the force of nature that is Lady Meyneth.

To be fair:
Lady Mayneth is all about understanding and peace, and only acting when there is not other choice. That is not Wu style. While Zanza about self serving and self loving jerk that manipulates people to stay in godhood.

Also, Melia>Fiora

Wu is actually kind of right about Sailor Moon, but probably not for the reasons she thinks. And there are plenty of female characters in it that are violent as hell, not just the villains, either. Idk maybe she's secretly a hardcore Moonie but I don't really trust her expertise on anything. She probably thinks it's "delightfully feminine" just because 95% of the characters are female and Sailor Moon is a Jesus stand-in, forgetting all the times the other characters threaten to destroy the world or kill each other for various reasons

The thing is sexuality isn't a bad thing, There can still be strong female characters who don't take shit from anyone and are comfortable with their sexuality at the same time.

I'm guessing Brianna Wu never watched Sailor Moon, or read the comic.
