Wow, I hope all that hard work you put into podcasting isn't interfering with your other commitments.

Part the First of Frank Wu article up, Kiwis. I'll do more later; my landlord is reorganizing his room with tons of furniture and I stupidly volunteered to give a hand.

Really looking forward to this, especially the bits about his stupid Hugos, ill-gotten as they are.

I don't think his Hugos are necessarily ill-gotten. I mean, it's absurd that there's a such thing as a Hugo for fanart, and that he's thereby won more Hugos than Isaac Asimov, but the game wasn't rigged in his favor or anything. If you look at the art in those fanzines Frank contributed to, his competition was, shall we say, less than robust.

The science-fiction scene, as long as we're kinda-sorta on the subject, sounds pretty depressing to me. The hollow shell of the glory days seems to have been recolonized by parasites.

As someone who played the series, is Wu high?

Playing as a Paragon typically tends to net higher rewards in the long run, not to mention the body count is a LOT lower. Also, Paragon Shepard puts a LOT of emphasis of being fair, conscientious, and not murdering for the hell of it.

Playing a Paragon consistently leads to having a lot more allies and less dead friends in the long run. How the FUCK is that selfish to NOT want to toss lives away like gambling chips and choose the most moral option possible?

Besides, some of the biggest genocides against people who would otherwise be allies are only possible if you decide to be an asshole.

Última edición:
I've never played the game, but I'm getting more and more convinced that Wu's just being contrary for its own sake. I'm calling it now, when that new Star Wars movie comes out she's going to tweet about how the prequel trilogy was still the high point of the series.

Having played Mass Effect, Renegade is literally edgelord as hell. You just do things for the sake of having a giggle, really - it's funny, but not because you're being nice at all or making good decisions.

I mean, fuck, you even attack a journalist. Isn't that the sorta shit that'd trigger any aGG-er?

I love when people hold this kind of shit up on some kind of pedestal. Yes, making a really good podcast has a few tricks to it. It helps if you're funny, knowledgeable, and insightful. It also really helps if you're known for something other than podcasting. Bullshitting in front of a mic for an hour is not some secret skill possessed by an elite few.

Frank's Hugos aren't ill-gotten, but it's important to note that the Hugos once represented something much different. It was politics-free, it was an event for the best and brightest in Sci-Fi. Then Social Justice descended, and turned it into the national joke it is now. If you want a good example of what a perfect Social Justice world looks like, look at the Hugos. It's a world where even slight deviation in viewpoint is haram.
