I thought the assumption was that it was when Wu came out as trans to her parents. College seems like the ideal time for her to "discover" herself. Also Wu let her parents down so consistently that coming out is the only thing I could imagine that would actually make them cut her off.

That's not an unreasonable assumption, but it's also exactly what Wu implies, and should be doubted for that reason. It fits her preferred narrative that her parents cut her off because they were horrible transphobes - but the fact is that we don't even know that they cut her off at all - and remember, she has previously claimed that they were his adoptive parents, so clearly he isn't interested in being honest on this particular subject.

She's either full of shit in this story or she is incredibly lazy. As you said, three courses isn't a lot at all. Realistically, it means if she were to do it in one semester (just to qualify for full-time student status for loans), that's maybe 3-4 hours of the day she is in class and the rest could be used to work a part-time job for additional income.

Even worse is that some schools will give you a Pass for 2 or 3 missing classes if your GPA is high enough and its your last semester. Pass doesn't affect the GPA but it counts as a completed course for no work. NYU does that, my friend kept getting waitlisted for an essential intro class so they just let him skip over it and gave him a Pass in it because he couldn't graduate without it and his GPA was a 3.9ish.
A lot of lazy people are just lazy.
You can rule the world and be lazy if you just ask for things, which either Wu didn't do, or couldn't do because he's a failure.

If it helps piece anything together, Wu flat-out said that she has been to rehab for ambien addiction in one of her podcasts. She also mentioned how expensive it was, so I'm assuming she was still on her parents' dime at that point.

We can't know for sure, but it seems like a good guess.
After all, her parents:

1. Got her a congressional internship, an opportunity she squandered.
2. Paid for her to go to UofM, then Milsaps, an opportunity she squandered.
3. Paid for her animation startup, an opportunity she squandered.
4. Paid for her rehab after she got herself addicted to drugs
5. Paid for a further 3 years at UofM, an opportunity she again squandered.

These people don't sound to me like the sorts who are likely to give up on their kid because they're a fuckup. I figure if they were to break off the relationship at all, it would have to be because of some perceived moral failing.

Was she out as gay to her parents before the transition? Given what we've heard about her antics in college, I would put my money on her erratic/unstable personality being the reason.

Considering Brianna's temperament it's very possible that her parents didn't disown her and Flynt was more upset that they weren't supportive of her, resulting in her actually cutting off ties just to spite them. Saying they're her adoptive parents could be just another way to shit on them. The problem is we may never know unless someday Flynt's parents speak up or someone contacts them.

What I don't understand, though, is....assuming Wu gets anything close to the large amount of neg. or pos. mail she claims, why did she respond to your specific gentle question / remonstrance? It was more neutral than anything else, and doesn't seem to justify the outpouring of salt.

Did you unknowingly touch a nerve somehow? Whatever the reason, absolutely smashing.

BTW, not to put on my EXTRA-large tinfoil hat or anything, but does anyone else find it odd that Wu admitted the bailing on college to a total stranger during the week she was being spit-roasted to the point of Twitter-bailing for it? I mean, it seems kind of odd that an unrelated query about a game engine would provoke a response about this kernel of truth Wu has gone to such great lengths to hide.....could it be that this is Wu's way of putting out into the public the idea that she never intended to deceive anyone re: graduating, and people were simply misreading her deliberately vague interview pronouncements?

I'm probably crazy and reading too much into this, or giving Wu too much credit. I know, I'm surprised too. It just seems so odd that she reveals this tidbit NOW, of all times, in response to an unrelated question, of all things.
