I guess the flowers and candles weren't effective combatants.

Update 1:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40146916

BBC has it.

Conspiratarding about how it's a false flag to make Theresa May look strong and stable in 3, 2, 1...

Police are responding to reports that a van has hit a number of pedestrians on London Bridge in central London.

Witnesses have said that armed officers are understood to be at the scene after a white van mounted the pavement before driving into people.

The Metropolitan Police say they are dealing with an incident on the bridge.

Transport for London said the bridge has been closed in both directions due to a "major police incident". Bus routes were being diverted.

BBC reporter Holly Jones, who was on the bridge at the time of the incident, said the van was driven by a man and was "probably travelling at about 50 miles an hour".

About five people were being treated for injuries after the vehicle mounted the pavement and hit them, she said.

She said the van, which was travelling from the direction of central London, headed towards the south side of the river.

Ms Jones later reported seeing a man being arrested by police. She said he was handcuffed and had his shirt off.

London Ambulance Service tweeted: "Multiple resources attending an incident at #LondonBridge, please avoid the area".

Update 2:
So far the bridge has been closed to all traffic. Nearby buildings have been evacuated or locked. Those who live within the cordoned area are being advised to stay elsewhere if they can.
People on the streets were told by police to "run as fast as they can". Some people may have been thrown into the river.

Some people reported hearing gunshots, but aside from relaying that as second-hand the news outlets only confirm stabbings and the van running down pedestrians. Armed police are at the scene, as well as ambulances. King's Hospital A&E has declared a major incident. Armed officers are on Borough High Street, but no idea what the Borough Market "incident" is yet. London Bridge and Borough tube stations are closed, as are some other nearby stations.

Police are searching for three suspects.

Update 3: people are dead but no total body count yet, and here's a video of a suspect

Update 4: another suspect
And another suspect

Update 5: MASSIVE EXPLOSION JUST NOW (2100 EST)
A large explosion has just gone off on London Bridge.

Update 6: At least six civilians dead, twenty thirty taken to the hospital. Turned out what was thought to be explosive vests weren't. Three males shot and killed by police.

Yeah, when I was watching the Beeb coverage the other day there was some security guy explaining why it's so difficult to monitor these people. One is resources - it takes 30-40 people to monitor someone around the clock and the resources don't exist to do that for everyone who is "on the radar" in some way. The other is that low tech attacks can be put together in an extremely short period of time and that reduces the likelihood of intelligence about them making its way to the authorities prior to the attack.

We had an attack here a couple of years back. The authorities knew the target and knew it was imminent but I'm not sure it could have realistically been prevented. The person who carried it out was a 15 year old who wasn't on the radar. The people who supplied him with the means to carry out the attack were on the radar, but it would have been literally impossible to monitor everyone with whom they had contact 24/7 indefinitely.

I'm currently slogging my way through the coroner's report into our other Islamic terrorist attack and it really brings home that things were different before 9/11 and that things which seem obvious in hindsight now were not back then.

coroner's reports tell you more than you'd think.

After watching The Jihadist Next Door I say we ship them all back to the middle east, fence off the region, and let them kill each other. It's obviously what they want to do.

It looks like the guy who was killed in a siege by our police the other day was previously charged with planning a terrorist attack.

If you're a refugee and you're convicted of a violent crime (as this guy was), the sentence should be deportation, not imprisonment and later release here. If you're a refugee and a member of a known terrorist organisation (as this guy was), you should be deported, no questions asked.

The one I'm reading at the moment is 495 pages. "Comprehensive" is an understatement.
yep a decent one will take two days to get through at least. you've got to include everything. it's a big task to put together, as I'm sure you can imagine.

if you're not a legal citizen of a country you should be deported immediately for any violent crime. refugee or no.

Depends. I think it should be imprisonment in the worst shithole you have, then deportation. Especially if they're the type likely just to sneak back in and commit more crimes anyway.

there are people whose natural reaction to this kind of stuff is to get loud and get up in the way. I know this because I'm one of those idiots and I've definitely taken punches I never should have been in from of, for it.

I love the photo of him with the book, in the hospital. I'm sure his soccer team is awful but after this they'd better become amazing

Milwall will never be amazing.

They have a piss poor reputation and no money, but the fans are fucking fanatics themselves. My brother in law is a massive Spurs fan and I think he's been punched by one purely for looking a bit like a Spurs fan even though his jacket was done up at the time.

He was a muslim refugee who had ties to al-Shabaab and IS, actually went back to Somalia to TRAIN with al-Shabaab, was a meth user, previous terror related charges, literally says "This is for IS" and yet...

You have this kind of :autism: coming out of people's mouths.

BTW, Australian Nurse Kirsty Boden is confirmed as a victim of this Muslim rage event in the U.K
Sara Zelenak is still missing. Not that you'd be able to tell by the passive way MSM in Aus is reporting stuff though.
