US Biden Says Communism Is a ‘Failed System’ and Cuba a ‘Failed State’ - “Communism is a failed system—a universally failed system. And I don’t see socialism as a very useful substitute, but that’s another story,” "Cuba is a failed state"

The authoritarian and communist regime of Cuba is a “failed state” and universally, communism is a “failed system,” President Joe Biden said while speaking from the White House on Thursday.

“Communism is a failed system—a universally failed system. And I don’t see socialism as a very useful substitute, but that’s another story,” Biden said during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Biden’s remarks were the strongest signal yet by the president in support of Cubans demonstrating against the ruling regime of leader Miguel Diaz-Canel—also the head of the Cuban Communist Party.

He also addressed that his administration is “considering” ways to possibly reinstate access to the internet for people on the island nation after the regime disrupted citizens from their online communications in the wake of the biggest anti-government protests in decades.

“We’re considering whether we have the technological ability to reinstate that access,” Biden said.

The president also indicated that for now, they are not considering re-establishing the U.S. to Cuba remittances because it’s “highly likely” that the regime would confiscate the funds.

“There are a number of things that we would consider doing to help the people of Cuba, but it would require a different circumstance or a guarantee that they would not be taken advantage of by the [Cuban regime],” Biden said. “For example, the ability to send remittances back to Cuba. I would not do that now because the fact is it’s highly likely that the regime would confiscate those remittances or big chunks of it.”

Starting over the past weekend, thousands of Cubans have openly demonstrated against the authoritarian regime and called for leader Diaz-Canel to step down. Some demonstrators, as well as Cubans in the United States, have called on the Biden administration to intervene amid mass arrests of demonstrators by the regime.

Biden’s remarks that they “consider” to aid Cubans came as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) asked the president in a letter to provide federal assistance to the citizens of the island nation as well as help them with internet access.

“I write to urge you to assist in providing Internet access to the people of Cuba standing up against communist oppression and demanding a voice after decades of suffering under the yoke of a cruel dictatorship,” the Republican governor wrote in the letter (pdf).

“As you know, the Cuban people are taking to the streets to protest the Communist regime, and the Cuban government has responded with violence,” he said. “At first, the world could see the images and videos of this mass movement, but now the tyrannical regime of President Miguel Diaz-Canel has shut off access to the internet.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday during a separate press briefing also called communism a “failed ideology,” explaining that Cubans “deserve freedom.”

“They deserve a government that supports them, whether that is making sure they have health and medical supplies, access to vaccines, or whether they have economic opportunity and prosperity,” Psaki said.

“This has been a government—an authoritarian, communist regime—that has repressed its people and has failed the people of Cuba, hence we’re seeing them in the streets,” she continued.

Amid the demonstrations, activists told news outlets this week that more than 100 people have been arrested, detained, or are simply missing in a regime-led clampdown.

Socialism isn't Communism, which also isn't "REAL" Communism when it inevitably fails.
Well, it isn't. Socialism still assumes a government that will make centralized decisions. Communism is almost anarchism, but not quite. It does depend on some authority to work, but not in the way most people envision it. However, it has never worked in practice for any long period of time. I think something that has come similar without all the bloodshed or controversy is something like Bruderhof. This is a religious commune that has existed for about 100 years and works seemingly well. But real exception, not the rule.

They both fail when attempts are made to implement them on the national level, so to me, the difference is academic.

Socialism always fails when it runs out of free money.

Communism always turbo-fails with high body counts.

Either way, both eventually fail in bloody, raging frustration at their broken systems not working how they envisioned on paper.

No socialist/communist nation has ever been stable and prosperous for more than a couple generations - when was the last time someone fled under gunfire on a leaky inner tube over the horizon of a vast ocean because doing so was preferable to living another day under socialism/communism? Capitalist nations don't have to resort to lethal force to keep people from leaving..... wonder why?

I suspect this is partially due to his dementia. Basically, he forgot that he wasn’t supposed to hate on communism.

What convinced you mr. Biden?
Fact there are no successful Commie countries 100 years after first Revolution.
And most of them them adopted state cronie capitalism to not collapse.
Or fact communism has 100 millions deaths to its name?

The thing is Biden is still a Boomer, and anyone mad at this must have been retarded to think a Boomer like Biden that used to say "lol niggers" would have anything good to say about communism. If communism is so strong then why couldn't Cuba and North Korea achieve autarky? Its not like Cuba was completely isolated from the rest of the world since they regularly traded with other countries like Venezuela.

If what's happening in Cuba truly the US's fault then why is the Cuban population pointing the fingers at their own government? Why did so many Cubans leave Cuba to go to the US? It's almost like people living in Cuba know more about the failings of communism compared to your average soy drinking redditor.

I'm really excited to see yet another example of "real communism was never tried" play out in my lifetime.

B-b-but Trump and his supporters told me Biden was going to usher in Global Communism™!

T-t-they told me that they were going to round up conservatives!

Seriously, it is possible that twitter lefties will start protesting against Biden. Though what did they expect anyway?

The thing that gets me about the Not-Really-Communism folks is that they think the "hasn't really been tried" excuse makes a stronger case for trying at this point.

People have been trying to implement it for over a century, to absolutely no success. If you build a building, and it falls over, maybe it was shoddy workmanship. If you keep trying to put up that building, but every time, no matter who is doing the construction, and no matter where they're building it, it falls over? The problem is not with the workers, there's something wrong in the blueprints.

Everywhere communism has been practiced, it has led to failure of that state only after prolonged abuse of the citizenry.

It's been tried across dozens of countries and dozens of ethnicities, but, it never once has worked and it always ends the same: Fed up people revolting against it.

This suggests that the issue is not one of people just not trying their hardest to make it work, but the end result being impossible due to human nature - you might as well have started building houses under water and telling people who objected that it could have somehow worked if you'd just held your breath a little harder....

Fuck it, unless you're younger than 10, it should be obvious: Communism is such a colossal failure in both theory and practice that any support for it can be dismissed outright.

It's a system that is indefensible.

Wrote this a while back in another thread, going to copypaste it now, because I get the urge to anytime anyone scolds us for celebrating the fall of another communist state with "But, it wasn't really given a chance and they had some free stuff"

Consider E. Germany post WWII vs. the GDR.

That's the closest thing to a laboratory refutation of communism you'll ever see.

Take one nation, bomb everything in it to bits, kill of large portions of it's population, throw it all into economic and political disarray, and then divide it right down the middle. The only difference is one side tries capitalist democracy to recover, the other communist socialism.... each side gets a wealthy superpower patron of their political system to pump in money and aid (USA/USSR), a huge market of similarly-aligned nations to sell their goods to/trade with (EU/Eastern Bloc) plenty of land and natural resources to exploit and the separation is enforced with the full backing of a nuclear arsenal to make sure they won't "cheat" and just invade the other side over accusations of unfairness. (NATO/Warsaw Pact).

Lather, rinse and let bake for 50 years....

Ta-fuckin'- dah:

To the surprise of no one with a brain, life in the Ost was worse by EVERY measurable metric,

The people there lived shorter less healthy lives with fewer luxuries, less pay, fewer vacation days, longer work hours, inferior consumer goods, worse pollution, worse healthcare, worse everything and that was all on top of a crushing culture of overbearing spying and suppression of personal expression.

Communism made a poor country out of a bunch of Germans.

Behold: A nation that invented the freeway, gave us Porsche, Mercedes, and Audi.... yet under communism, the Easterners could only build the Trabant: a car that ran off a 2-cycle lawnmower engine and whose body was made of compressed T-shirt scraps and could be eaten by livestock if they got hungry enough... Meanwhile, the West got VW back off the mat in under 10 years, with the VW Beetle becoming the best-selling car of all human history....... second only to maybe the Model T in terms of significance to human industry and the motor age.... while BMW became successful enough to keep every valet and busboy in Stuttgart employed for LIFE.

Not only can you not centrally plan economies, but people don't like living stacked in concrete prole-pods, even if the state controls the rents while being stripped of freedom of expression or even the freedom of just being able to make more than the next guy with personal diligence.... communism not only fails to create wealth, it fails to respect basic human desires and rights.

I saw the Iron Curtain rust away with my own eyes as a kid, and as soon as it did, the people behind it didn't cower like frighten animals, didn't stone their supposed capitalist aggressors, they sprinted to the Kurfürstendamm and lined up for Big Macs and Nikes because they WANTED them and finally had a chance to buy them, as many as they wanted, no questions asked or papers demanded.....

Because at the end of the day, people would rather wear blue jeans over combat fatigues and the loudest propaganda speaker you can imagine is less likely to promote any positive behavior out of the citizenry than a simple Sony Walkman loaded with an M.C. Hammer cassette does for it's owner simply by existing as "their" property.

No communist country whose people were ever given a fair plebiscite to decide if they'll keep communism or reject it has EVER chosen to keep it, not once, in all of human history. Sure, they may be naive enough to vote in it's creation, but nobody who ever had to live under it and experience it first hand as one of those equal-at-last proletariat class has ever wanted it to continue.

For once i agree with biden. It is fucking funny to see western tankies melting down over Cuba, regurgitating castrist propaganda and rambling how its all because of CIA and the embargo (implicitly admitting that the "socialist utopia" needs to be spoonfed by the evil capitalist countries). The "embargo" is just a scapegoat and its not even as severe as tankies claim, since they're mere trade restrictions and the US is the top exporter of Food to Cuba.

We already knew that, what makes people think that it will? Or for that matter, what makes them think that certain leaders like that of the U.S would even entertain the idea of praising or trying to implement communism?

Seriously what is the appeal? And what is "Real Communism" to these people?

The vastest majority of tankie arguments caqn easily be turned around like this. Like how they claim everything is the fault of glownigs.

You know what's funny about what you mentioned there? The GDR is considered to be one of the "best off" countries in the Eastern Bloc. This is because the Soviets knew that East Germany would be watched far more closely by the West and compared to West Germany. They wanted to show the world "communism is good". They poured far more resources and money into Germany compared to the other Eastern Bloc states, aside from the fact Germany was the most devastated from the war. Life in the GDR is better than life in other eastern bloc states like Czechoslovakia or Poland. This tells you how shitty living in THOSE countries would have been like.

One reason why people vote in communism is because sometimes the nations they were living in were absolute shit. Like i'm talking warlord era China "lets flood a river and kill 500.000 of our own people to stop the Japanese" shit, and Russian Empire "lets fight a world war with barefoot soldiers and lose" shit. Communism is born out of desperate people, and those people were tired of their corrupt incompetent governments. These same nations were also very wary of western ideals and influence due to colonialism. Communism in the past wasn't born out of naivety IMO but human desperation to try something different and hope for the best. Modern day people wanting communism? That's not being naive, it's literally denying reality and being fucking delusional.

Like I said, the trade embargos on Cuba may have been harsh, but they weren't isolated. Its not like we had a fucking steel blockade surrounding them stopping all imports and exports. Hell even in the past few years we have been slowly lifting some of our trade restrictions. Even if Cuba and all of the other communist nations failed due to "western meddling" which is a fucking ridiculous statement, it still doesn't mean shit. I mean if your rivals are always able to beat, undermine, and outsmart your system then something tells me your system is shit.

Edit: Anyone else going to sign up for the anti-communist volunteers when the cuban civil war breaks out? Would love to get me some authentic cuban cigars without having to jump through all the hoops here.

Of course mate. Can't wait to make a belt and a hat out of red scalps

Seriously, it is possible that twitter lefties will start protesting against Biden. Though what did they expect anyway?
If they protest, they'll do it for a short period of time before the media gives them something to circle the wagons about, and they'll go right back to saying Biden's the most popular man in US history.

The "support the establishment at all costs" part of their programming is higher priority then the "sperg at any criticism of socialism" stuff.

The author of the 1619 Project claims communism in Cuba solved racism. Which is obvious bullshit.
Convince people to stop resenting one another for their color and to start resenting the government for it's never-ending oppression of Cubans of all races? I suppose that is one way.

The vastest majority of tankie arguments caqn easily be turned around like this. Like how they claim everything is the fault of glownigs.

Let's assume it is black ops, just for the sake of argument.

Again, what does that say about the robustness of the system if a few dozen or maybe a few hundred agent provocateurs can topple it any time they feel like it?

Glowops in the US always result in the same thing: years of "c'mon, do a boogaloo!" prodding gets maybe one or two people to do something concrete enough to get arrested. And then you learn at trial that even then they weren't planning much, like the guy they arrested as a rebel for owning a commercially-available LEGO model of the Capitol. Point is, these efforts to create cells of rebels never make any that can be said to be an actual threat.....and Timothy McVeigh's home grown rebellion caused the entire militia movement to rapidly dissipate overnight, not get stronger? Because average people were rightfully aghast at the senseless violence?

Meanwhile, apparently a few CIA agents saying "Lol, the Generalissimo sucks, you should totally topple him" is enough to make entire nations abandon their entire political system and embrace violence overnight, as long as it was communism..... and that's not communisms fault, that it can't inspire loyalty and internal strength in the populace? That even when it "works' it's so fragile anyone with a weekend to spare can end what's supposedly living in a dream world where everything you want is free?

Again, excuses excuses excuses as to why it never works.
