Seriously, though, I would say the Jerusalem Bible is a very solid all-around translation, probably one of the best, and in fact JRR Tolkien was one of the translators/consultants. For literary/cultural value the KJV probably stands alone in its influence on English-language literature.

I like the NIV

NIV used preexisting translations for some passages though instead of going back to the original source materials. I feel like the telephone game effect makes it less accurate for study because of this.

The King James is unmatched in beautiful, Protestant concision. The lucid spareness of the Protestant "plain style" came about partially because of the clear, numinous language of the KJV.
