The snakes I guess I get for gorgon boys, but the bird head flower tentacle? Yeah, I got nothing.

As a poorfag kinda bummed obitsu is ending their 27cm line, especially since I have no idea if they'll be coming out with new boy bodies in that size range. I have way too many pale obitsu slims lol (and pale girls too, too many pasty space war criminals I guess).

Am I missing something about why these are so expensive? I don't want to sperg about my plastics/fabricating autism but for what these are it seems like retail units are priced for what like a one-off prototype runs. Unless they're internally filled with cocaine or something I simply do not understand how it could be $800 for something off-the-rack.
Because if it's really just some basic small-parts resin casting y'all are insane. The artists you stan have whipped you into a frenzy to pretty much burn cash. From what I'm seeing, they're mostly more like designers/prototypers in the west that farm out major production. I can promise you a lot of that production and the recasters they vilify are one in the same. If you would spend half the time you spend huffing your own farts looking into the production stuff behind this you could probably make way nicer dolls yourself at a lower price. I don't want to hear about quality- y'all talk about handmade, I've dealt with shit that robots and lasers check fitment on. I'm MOTI enough I'll drop this PL: I've had to personally deal with the colossal douchenozzle artist that handles casting for the God damn oscars. The superiority complexes on display here dwarf his spergery. I'm not mad at y'all or trying to be mean but damn this is mind boggling. Please make sure you're wearing proper respirators, I fear the fumes might be getting to you people. <3

Has anyone seen this show on Netflix?
It's called PILI: War of the Dragons and it looks like it's stop motion animation featuring ball jointed dolls. Like, it's Chinese, but it looks 100% legit

Some doll companies charge $200 for a 60cm doll, some charge $600-800

They mainly use chinese casters, who, more often than not, end up being recasters whose quality is just as good as the 'non recasters".

Look up resinsoul, doll leaves and 5 star doll, compare to ringdoll, luts, and soo.

Many ARE one offs in limited quantity, and prey on fomo. Very few come back for reruns.
Yes, there is definitely spergy of, my x doll is better because it has y super special resin, and your shitty, cheap bootleg off aliexpress is made of z resin and poor quality.

They're made of the same resin

Im.not going into the recast debate, i lack the willpower and patience.

I've worked in gemstones and jewelry, I imagine it is similar to the Natural vs. Synthetic sperging. I fully understand.

Likewise jewelry has the exact same kind of artificial scarcity to it. Impressive racket they have going on for such a niche market. I'm surprised some nigga in Shenzen with a Kinect isn't eating them alive.

I think this is largely made up in the hobbyist's minds and the vendors (smartly) let the rumors run wild. Longgang District in Shenzen is the epicenter of manufacture and workers there will move fairly freely between companies as work comes and goes. Ultimately everyone works for the party. One is just over the way in Hong Kong, almost a prerequisite for any international company based in mainland China. One was a wildcard from Inner Mongolia which might be HQ, but who the fuck exports directly out of there? If I were a betting man it is at least leaving the country via HK/Shenzen, if not manufactured there in the first place. If you want to hop on WeChat and brush up on your Google-Translate Chinglish, it's actually pretty easy to suss out just how incestuous the markets over there are.

Ah yeah they use puppets. There's a few different series

Accurate on you comment about casting being a rather closed court system. Some doll makers have their own casting companies to protect their resources and keep their products cheap (for themselves) or for their buyers. It is not uncommon to find dolls as cheap as $50-300 from Chinese companies who both have casting stations and direct shops (taobao)

The mentality varies but it is easier to understand if you considerer that the hobby if full of women and involves alot of money and dressup culture

Recasting usually involves taking another's work and making a copy for sale. There can be slight warping of details and the og receives no monetary compensation. But a doll can be purchased for a fraction of the price, (legit fairyland doll runs at $300, recast is $80-100) come in any color and transparent, and can be hybrided with other company dolls and then cast in a uniform shade. (companies have their own colors and colormatching a head is far different then matching a body). Recasts usually have a much faster export time as well, between 1-4 months after payment , while legits can take, 3 months to 2 years, or, in the case of some, 7+ years. (https://denofangels.com/threads/dollshe-discussion-part-sixteen.819426/)

This same doll is $150 as a recast and can be purchased in any color aside from the official tan/mint/pink/white (say, baby blue with clear mint hooves)

it is 'art theft' in the simplest terms. but the appeal of a lower cost, hybridization, customization, replacement parts (companies won't always replace a broken arm even if it arrives to you broken) and lack of wait causes many to buy. Also separate buying of fantasy parts and accessories is a bit of a racket

Is it all a little silly? yes.
But you can always make your own https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3184441
and print them in resin and pla. There are also numerous files to buy on etsy, and other websites that can be modded digitally and mixed together. I have a custom doll here that probably cos me $300 after trials and fails and printing redoes ect. But if i wanted another, id be out $80 in resin and $20 in topcoat for a rather large doll.

I just like my technically not-BJD 1/6 obitsus and whatnot. Shame both Volks and now obitsu are ending their classic 1/6 bodies. I love turning pale slims into obscure space war criminals :(
