Probably, It's a Larian game first and a DnD game second.

This is a lot of players' experience and I'm surprised Larian haven't really done much to stop it from happening. Gortash seems to lose all sense of self-preservation during the fight. Synthetic Man is convinced this is because this fight went largely untested during QA.

It’s a DnD game, there’s plenty of ways for you to cheese the game and avoid boss fights all together that’s fully intentional. I didn’t even fight two of the goblin leaders, one I exploded with like 5 gunpowder barrels and the other a sneak attacked to death.

Given Gortash isn’t an in-your-face fighter who seems to focus primarily on defense and buffong, it made sense. There just happen to be a grenade nearby that fucked up his plan.

And now I have to decide if I want to be as selfless as I’ve been trying to be or let Orpheus be the one to sacrifice. I do actually feel kinda stuck on what to do.

The "fight" you just described was one of the game's final bosses just blowing himself up. There is zero strategy or even much gameplay involved in you watching a boss blow himself up with his own mines. The game's AI won the fight for you.

Synthetic Man could tell you fire was hot and you'd be blowtorching your arm.

It’s a DnD game, there’s plenty of ways for you to cheese the game and avoid boss fights all together that’s fully intentional.

They've patched out thousands of bugs since the game's release. Probably safe to assume there was and still is a plethora of things you can do in this game that are not intentional.

Not to go all weeb defence force but japanese birth rate isn't as bad as is memed. If you discount immigration they have a higher birth rate than many western nations. If you wanna see a real dying race look at Skorea's birth rate.

Karlach's body is dying, her soul belongs to Zariel. Her soul being snuffed out by squidifaction saves it from being torturered for eternity. I know Squidlach is just a grown up tadpole with Karlach's memories, but she was dying anyway.
Orpheus on the otherhand is both a unique living weapon against the Ithilid and the Gith's best hope of being free from Vlaakith. Sacrficing him would be insane.

Yes, it's a great game. Most of the bullshit I was upset about before launch is totally avoidable and you have the freedom to react violently to any of it if you so choose, it seems like a lot of people here found that therapeutic.

WotC have officially stated that BG3 is supposed to be canon to 5e tabletop, and not BG1 and BG2.

One of the biggest evidences for how far BG3 has changed can be seen in Act III with a much older Viconia DeVir...

Viconia's change in personality has been massively retconned. Based on Larian's statements on this matter, this was largely done as a consequence of how much WotC influenced their decisions. WotC requested to change Viconia's fate and personality to be more in line with their canon rather than the Baldur's Gate games lore. So, be aware, this is WotC-Baldur's Gate and not Baldur's Gate-Baldur's Gate.
