🔰 Keep someone in your party who can cast Guidance (usually this is Shadowheart). I can't tell you how many times this cantrip has come in clutch to passing important skill checks.
Adding onto this, there's a ring that you can find fairly early (unless it's randomized or something) that grants this cantrip, meaning if you're willing to give up a ring slot on someone, you can ditch her for another party member you might want.

Let's not forget that players can play as black or otherwise dark-skinned characters that don't face this issue for not being descendants of devils.
I was starting to think niggers aren't retarded. Thanks for reminding niggers are retarded.
It is possible to, instead of saving the xenophobic hippies and devilspawn refugees, slaughter them. About a third of the playerbase has chosen to do so so far.

Playing Bard right now and I gotta say I love some of the class-specific dialogue options it gets. Among those four it depends: what are you hoping to get out of your PC? High AC? Extreme damage output? Easier skill checks?
I will probably do that. End up playing the game and killing everything that I find unpleasant.

@Baraadmirer Thanks for the tips on AC and such; it looks like Paladin is going to be my class of choice after all. To be honest; when I mentioned "all-around utility", I was thinking more in the combat-sense - like having options for ranged, melee, magic, etc., - though the dialogue skill checks is still really good to know, so thanks! Being able to talk out of a potentially bad situation - and get some potential information - is a real good thing, even if it isn't always my style.

Also, the Guidance tip is rather helpful; any help is appreciated, and it sounds like Guidance is going to be very useful.

Seriously, why the hell are the wokeshit attacking this game, again? From what I remember, it really did seem like a game that would be right up their alley; did the game fail the increasingly-ridiculous-and-insane purity spiral, or what? Legit question.

Honestly, same; I usually avoid randomly killing people in RPGs - hell, I don't even do it in Dark Souls and Skyrim - but BG3 is really looking like the game that'll break that habit.

EDIT: One last question - my apologizes everyone - which Oath do you guys recommend for Paladin? Or, is the Oath system still broken, and I should just run Oathbreaker?

Depends on your playstyle but from what I've seen a lot of people like the Oath of Vengeance as it is a more offensive build that has a lot of useful abilities in a fight like Hold Person, Hunter's Mark, Bane, Misty Step and Inquisitor's Might. https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Paladin

Nothing is ever enough for these people, simple as that. You could have a black character who is utterly flawless and totally heroic, with nothing bad ever happening to them, and somebody would complain that it's offensive and racist against black people. It's an impossible standard. So when you go and have a (fantasy) situation in which there's actual racism and not "microaggressions", they lose their minds. These people would absolutely shut down or chimp out if faced with another person straight up yelling in their face "You and all your kind are disgusting, parasitic vermin, and you all deserve to be slaughtered like animals." They've never experienced true, virulent hatred like they claim to face every day.
Or, is the Oath system still broken, and I should just run Oathbreaker?
I haven't had any problems with it so far, being a Devotion/pretty nice dude. I'd be prepared for Oathbreaker if you decide you wanna go around slaughtering innocents or whatever.

Yeah, the woke really can't seem to ever be satisfied; really does make you wonder, though, the type of people that can never find any sort of happiness in anything like that. I mean, I'm fairly certain that many people can relate to the want to be happy and content... but these lunatics seem to thrive in, not in making themselves happy, but by tearing everything and everyone else down to their level, and making everything into this miserable pile of shit.

They really don't seem to get any form of happiness from... anything. It's kinda horrifying when you think about it.

Sorry for sperging out.

Well, I'm certainly not an innocent-slayer in other games - not unless they really deserve it, or it's part of a quest; i.e., Skyrim's Dark Brotherhood - so it does sound like Vengeance is going to be my Oath.

I just brought it up, because I remember that the Oath system was hilariously broken, apparently; you basically couldn't do pretty much anything without losing your Oath from what I heard. Like, Vengeance players couldn't attack certain villains for whatever reason, otherwise they'd just lose their Oath; it was weird.

Remember that multiclassing is an option. As a Paladin your Divine Smite is (RAW; haven't seen if they changed it in the game) applicable only to melee attacks, but nothing's stopping you from dipping a level or two in Warlock and getting Eldritch Blast as a cantrip. You can also take the odd invocation for some customisation.

If you're thinking of going one pure class that can decently do well at all three the Eldritch Knight (Fighter subclass) is what you want. They don't get as many spell slots as full casters and progress slower in spell tiers, though.

With how insane jumping is in this game, I haven't had too many problems getting up close to ranged enemies. Though I do carry a couple magic spears/javelins around as backup. Scrolls can also be pretty handy, depending on what you find. I think the shopkeepers' stock changes as you progress through an act, but it might also just be after resting, so I'm not totally sure.

Eldritch knight is fun, though lacklustre in spells. Decided to go for the drow girl warrior as first playthrough, as a neutral style character is a good first try to explore stuff.

For mods, prettier female faces for elves is needed. Also found a mod that fixes Goth elf's eyebrows and hair mismatching after a certain event.

Basically the akimbo one hand crossbows are the best ranged option for a warrior, the small spell it has are for utility. But if you don't want to play Paladin because of oaths, it is a good substitute for a first run.

I chose the middle oath, as I read its the most forgiving.

As for combat, I fins that when npcs go suddenly hostile, it is much harder than when you know they are foes and can set up your squad in position first.

Yeah I had this idea of a cool spellblade character but in practice it's just a fighter who casts longstrider and expeditious retreat. Also the shield spell reaction which is probably the best one.
Still it's fun enough, there's pretty much nothing he can't reach and smack down in a single turn.

It's because the leftist faggots are never happy. You can never do enough to please them. Give them an inch and they will take a mile. They always need something to whine about. They have a never ending need to be the victim and feel offended.

Not me. I usually leave a path of death and destruction in games. As long as it doesn't effect me negatively in anyway.

Unfortunately that's just EK, it's not really a spell warrior, it's a warrior with some utility spells.

Bladelock is the closest to a real battle mage, and even then it's just because of a bug that lets you get three attacks from the level 5 pact of the blade improvement stacking with extra attack from martial classes at level 5.

You also just kind of use utility spells anyway, unless they're further than you can run and you just cast Eldritch Blast.
-Get the darksight invocation (unless you play a race that has it)
-Cast darkness
-Stand in darkness
Congratulations you win.

I expect the sharpshooter dual hand crossbow bug to be fixed eventually, right now you get the +10 damage on both attacks but only -5 attack roll on main hand.

Vengeance paladin is pretty great though, hard to break the oath and smites are just stupid strong, plus you can use Divine Smite while raging as a barbarian if you want to do that, it's a class feature and not a spell.

Aren't almost all Tieflings European-looking? They are clearly representing refugees or less charitably, a threat to the harmony of the druid grove. She does make some good points about certain creatures being "born evil" though.

Tieflings were racially discriminated against in earlier games (Neverwinter Nights II), but BG3 is ridiculously sanatised. The evil necromancer-general issue with his daughter dating a female angelwasn't because it is gay, but because the angel was immortal and his daughter wasn't.

I was pretty disappointed that lolcow PhilosophyTube (Oliver Thorn) did a voice for the game, albeit at least it wasn't Jim Sterling. Then I saw the character.
Larian whether it was intentional or not made the ugliest troon elf character possible. :story:

One thing that really irks me with the writing is how passive aggressive the narrator can get when you act evil. It’s especially apparent from my perspective playing both a good half-elf acolyte bard and an evil lolth-sworn criminal drow warlock side-by-side.

The narration passive aggressively chides me for letting some idiot tiefling kid die after she got caught stealing a valuable idol; like no shit bitch what part of “lolth-sworn criminal” did you miss? Why should I care about the kid’s safety when her parents are clearly poor and I know that said idol she tried taking is going to be as good as mine regardless after I kill enough prissy Druid hippies.
this is why you play dark urge as an evil character so the narrator becomes your constant schizo companion telling you how nice it would feel to disembowel someone infront of his family.
Dark urge definitely was more impactful than I thought and is woven in to the backbone of the games story. It is a proper origin character for people who want to go custom evil. or custom formerly evil redemption.

Also I was NOT expecting the music that kicks in during the Raphael fight
If only the rest of the game had a more memorable soundtrack.

That's a thiefling, the half human that is made by demon jizz. You get to be a mortal with demon looks and some magic. Not an elf or as the Choob says a "sexy succubus".

Obligatory Tooblet whenever Choob is mentioned.
