Balatro is banned at my house - Feeding my gambling addiction

Just had my most ridiculous run ever after wanting to pull my hair out trying to beat Gold Stake for ages.

With that said - Gold Stake Balatro is the single most frustrating experience I have ever had in a video game in my life, let alone in this genre. As far as I'm concerned, I've beaten the game and anything else is icing on the cake.

Its gonna be $9.99 electronic fentanyl has never been cheaper
also this is the complete list that flashed for a second in the trailer:
Feature length movie of someone playing Balatro, that's it. Skeleton on a toilet playing Balatro. A skeleton on the toilet, but it explodes. Jimbo standing trial in court, he is also the judge. What do you mean we can't get a skeleton? A live action movie, but instead of guns, everyone is holding bananas. Eggs, loads of eggs. LocalThunk in a bananasuit, doing a little dance. A post-apocalyptic setting, zooming on ground zero. It's a phone with Balatro on it. New content update trailer where no content is released or announced; wait, that's this trailer. We put an apple and a banana in a blender, the fans will totally get it. What if I SUPPLY the skeleton? Someone (me) gets on a plane in London, lands in Hawaii (me, still) - no time has passed. Thanks Balatro. The above, but make sure we show it's in business class. Announcing Balatro is now a soulslike. I mean technically, we all own a skeleton. Just toilet flush sounds, then Balatro Mobile. Banana puppet show. I said skeleton. What the hell is a skibidi?? Jimbo starts a company selling bananas and it sells well, bananas go extinct. LocalThunk releases a golden idol that can turn bananas into game currency. The Joker's new card deck is made entirely of banana peels and chaos. Balatro.... on ice! Romanceable Jimbo reveal. J̶i̶m̶b̶u̶s̶s̶y̶ A fortune teller using jokers, she actually predicts the future of the viewer. It's like that apocalypse movie with the meteor but instead Jimbo is in the sky. Blueprint, Mobile Phone, Brainstorm, Cavendish. Jimbo eats an apple. A banana explodes and Jimbo comes out from it. "Pick a Joker and I tell you what type of pizza you are." LocalThunk buys a banana farm. Jimbo makes the trailer and fires the video editor. Hang on, that's me

In my experience, the majority of Roguelites don't have this problem.
Sure, there might be RNG-caused situations that are grueling, tedious, and leave little room for error, but they can be beaten with sufficient patience, skill, and consistency.
In Balatro, that's not the case, and situations become completely unwinnable through no fault of the player and with no chance of clutching victory from the jaws of defeat.
People say this about Balatro alot and it's true. However, at the same time I don't think any of these people would willingly try to finish a run in The Binding of Isaac without a DMG up despite it's plethora of non DMG items.

Well, for what it's worth, I can confirm this because I strongly dislike Binding of Isaac and won't touch it again lol

Yea same. I started doing the challenges and got like halfway and was like I'm done, none of this feels like anything worth doing anymore. Gold stake win felt great however.

I've been playing this shit during all my downtime since it released on Android.

Best run to date I got this morning, love the spectral deck, the duplication shenanigans are too good, 4 stencils + 1 minor mult creator and a shitton of enhanced mult cards carried me hard.

I cracked the gold stake with the Abandoned deck few nights back. Only Joker missing in my collection is the one that requires a 100 million chip hand, haven't figured out the most busted combo to reach that number yet.

Name your favorite deck and top three jokers, maybe?

Abandoned deck is my fave, not surprisingly. While the lack of face cards rules out many jokers and slightly reduces the deck's chip potential, it makes some jokers far more useful, like Odd Todd & Even Steven, Fibonacci, The Hack, and so on. Also the only deck where Ride the Bus makes any sense. [edit] Also I think the lower card range makes straights statistically easier?

Favorite jokers:
1) Hanging Chad - crank overpowered cards and whatever gland releases dopamine multiple times.
2) Constellation - milquetoast I know, but offers a nice linear benefit from purchasing planet cards.
3) Vagabond - easily the most broken way to churn out tarot cards, can only be made more ridiculous if doubled with Blueprint / Brainstorm.

I've already forgotten my favorites since I got sick of the game but the batter up joker and the one that gives x mult for every ante skipped are extremely powerful late in the run.

You mean Baseball Card, maybe? I'd agree, the only problem is that the effect only applies to uncommon jokers, which limits the build options somewhat. Throwback is powerful, true, as it applies another powerful effect on top of the benefits gained from skipping antes.

I am only missing one joker:
Got Perkeo like a thousand fucking times. I finally got Yorick without even trying. The remaining joker is a legendary.

I find that Stunt Man has been clutch and is probably one of my most common win jokers. I have not made been able to do much with either the Idol or the Obelisk. The Obelisk especially seems like such a niche card it shouldn’t be rare.

Obelisk sucks. Yea, any chip joker is very valuable. especially at the high stake runs where you need simple hands to score big points. Again, haven't played in months since I got what I wanted achievement wise and felt satisfied but my strategy was usually chip joker + cumulative mult joker then X mult jokers mid and late. Cumulative mult joker starts slow but can build into a powerhouse by the time you really need it. The game does have a lot of strategies and it is damn addictive.

FWIW I tend to try and never read any strategy guides for offline games like this. I'm sure there are strategies my relatively simply math mind has never conceived. If you give this game to like a mathematician shit? Shit, they'd go wild.

Well if you’re curious about the math, the antes scale at a rate faster than any of the factors in the game can keep up with, so it’s rigged to lose.

Analyzing the first eight antes would be more sensible.

How do I beat this stinky game? Always seem to fail around ante 5, made it to ante 7 like once. Is red deck the best?
Some of the phrasing is very confusing, does your "hand" refer to the amount of hands you have left, the 8 or so card you get given to make "hands" with, or those up to 5 card "hands" itself?
And the "win in one hand" big blind can fuck right off

Your hand are the cards currently available to play or discard. Played cards are the cards you select to play. Scoring cards are cards that are counted to score. Cards held in hand are the remaining cards in your hand when scoring. After a played hand, you get a new hand. Drawing new cards after a discard does not create a new hand. It’s technically the same hand with different cards.

The confusion is because ‘poker hand’ is used to refer to valid scoring combinations, but in Balatro the poker hand itself is not the only thing that scores.
