Am I the only one who hates the Tony/Peter dynamic?
Yes.
I like the paternalistic relationship between Tony and Peter. Its an example of Tony's growth over the series, and its also an interesting direction to take Peter's character. Peter has been, in large part, defined by his relationships with the father figures in his life--Uncle Ben, Curt Connors, Norman Osborn, etc.--but he's never had a superhero mentor before. He's always been a loner when it comes to being Spider-Man. Making Tony his mentor adds something new and interesting to his character. Uncle Ben helped shaped the man Peter would become, but Tony helped shaped the hero Spider-Man will become. Its a cool new twist on an old character.
