Genuine question, was MCU Black Widow an actually popular character?

I think the only reason why she was popular was because Scarlett and she was the token female Avenger at the time. That's the only reason why people were clamouring for a Black Widow movie.

I honestly thought her character didn't make any sense. the MCU is suppose to follow some real world events so they mention Black Widow doing some Soviet and KGb stuff despite being born in 1984.

Reddit's a mess because of the large numbers. And it's probably gonna get worse next week when the likely inevitable giant 2nd weekend drop hits. I enjoyed the film though regardless.

in the Box Office SubReddit some of the Marvel fanboys were rejoicing and cheering because Captain Marvel also beat Wonder Woman at the domestic and world wide box office. Then one fanboy who got a decent amount of upvotes said that Wonder Woman was trash and that overseas audiences were "smart" in rejecting the film, because Wonder Woman made 50% of its box office domestically which is unusual for superhero movies (who usually only make around 40% domestically).

I replied that Black Panther also made more domestically so did Overseas audiences reject that movie? I haven't checked but I'm sure I got downvoted.

That's it. That's literally the only thing that's changed. If Captain Marvel had come out in 2010, exactly as it is now, you wouldn't have noticed anything "culture war" related about it in the slightest. You're confusing stuff you're specifically seeking out or are hearing because you following specific channels and are seeing it all the time, that's why.

The 'girl power' shot is dominating discussion here because "the culture war" dominates a significant chunk (imo actually a majority) of discussion in one way or another. The vast majority of the population isn't seeing it that way. Same reason for the subreddits, they're highly specific areas of discussion that more or less unconciously encourage such discussion by requiring new and niche topics to keep the talk flowing back and forth.

Like log off of YouTube for a week and don't watch anything "nerd culture" where clickbait vloggers are actually seeking attention, and you'll see it less and less.

Tbh I think that's something the MCU dropped the ball on. You might think it's absurd that 616 Nick Fury and Black Widow are ageless super spies who've been around for the last near century but it's been a part of their comic background for ages now. It wouldn't even be that unusual in the MCU considering the Winter Soldier is a soviet era toy the Russians keep thawing out/freezing whenever they need him.

Unless I'm missing something, they only lose by removing that from their past. The only upside to removing it is not having to explain that stuff.

I liked it, at the end. Reading the spoilers I feared it would be another Last Jedi, but eventually it worked out a lot. The people bitching and moaning are just fanboys complaining about why their favorite characters couldn't do X and Y (Loki fangirls are being so annoying about this).

I liked it, and as @StarkRavingMad said, I would've been annoyed if they had forced a cheesy lame happy Disney ending, where only the bad guys die and everybody comes back to life, even characters who died before the Snap like Vision or Quicksilver. I don't think anyone would have liked that ending, aside from emotionally immature people and Disney shills. This, with this level of sacrifice, it feels earned, it makes sense, and it is pretty final, all things considered. it's a perfect ending for a story that carried on for 11 years. And this is all coming from somebody who's not that into the MCU (their Peter Parker will always be annoying for me), but hey, at least they had a vision and continued with it, and didn't let fandom hype, merchandise or woke politics tarnish good storytelling.

Most of the people I've seen online and RL are pretty much admitting how the MCU ends for them here, and I think it works well. My interest in Marvel in general is mostly rooted in Spider-Man and X-Men, and they shit the bed over Spider-man, so my interest would be in how they adapt the X-Men, if they ever try.
And all the stuff about wanting to add fat superheroes, gay asians, more diversity...Like yeah, preachy Kamala Khan and ripped-off Spiderverse Miles are on the way. Well, I already have my perfect Miles/Spiderman film with Into the Spiderverse, so I really don't care to see how Disney butchers even more Spidery stuff in an attempt to seem woke.

MCU Peter Parker is basically Miles Morales so I think adding him to the MCU would be pointless. There's a lot not to like about the movie. The last third of it is a total clusterfuck. It reminded me of Ready Player One. Everybody's there, but they're there just to be seen and noticed, not for any reason connected to the character. Infinity War was good about giving every character their own moment to shine, and most battle scenes in that film featured clever use of the characters' powers. The big battle of Endgame was just a clusterfuck of energy blasts, punching and mindless yelling. No one got a chance to shine. No one had an opportunity to be clever. It was just a sloppy, boring slugfest.

Captain Marvel just kinda comes out of nowhere. No one seems surprised to see her or wonder who she is. Every character gets an intro in IW. Here, they're just like "and then there's Maude."

The only really good parts were the Ronin scene and the Time Heist. I kinda wish the Time Heist was the whole movie instead of a small section in the middle. Cap and Tony in the 70s was a highlight, as was the Hulk meeting the Ancient One. I like how the Ancient One conflict was resolved by two characters talking shit out instead of fighting (or quipping) their way to a resolution.

I'd give Endgame a 6/10. Its okay. The good slightly outweighs the bad. I've watched IW three times already, but I'll probably never watch this again in full.

I even agree that she came out of nowhere, and it's not clear how she knew the battle was even happening when last we heard she was going to be in space for a while. But I'm not sure why anyone on the field would care how or why she got there when they're in the middle of all out war and focused on keeping the gauntlet away from Thanos. She shows up, blowing up the Thanos' main ship, so she's clearly on their side. Beyond that, questions can be asked later. The real problem is that they aren't, or at the very least, it isn't shown.

If there is one character who was poorly used it was Doctor Strange. Having him dealing with the flooding issue and just holding it for a while seemed designed to keep him out of the fight and away from Thanos. Maybe because without the power and reality stones DS might have actually been able to restrain him, but it felt like a cop out to sideline him like that. Hell, couldn't he have just used the slingring to teleport to the van?

Just like Infinity War, it was way better than I was expecting and I loved every second of it except for Cap’s epilogue because it went on too long and got way off task. And as an added bonus it feels like a satisfying ending, so I can get off the ride.

To follow that up, I think the ending scene in her movie happens prior to her rescuing Tony. So she landed on earth licking for Fury, Rocket probably goes “hey, here’s my ship’s signal, please track it down and see if anyone’s left” and that’s how she gets Tony and brings him back.

Found out a fun little thing today that Howard the Duck was a part of the final battle. In the scene where all the Snapped heroes are reappearing, you can see him in the background when Wasp appears wielding a big space gun.

So that was neat.
