I can think of all kinds of cures that might lead to happiness. A cure for cancer would really hit the spot right about now.

But happiness is not, and should not be the be-all and end-all of life. There are such things as personal fulfillment, artistic expression, and the desire to leave a lasting and positive legacy. We should all want to leave the Earth just a little bit better than when we entered it.

If happiness was really the only thing worth having, then we could all just stick an icepick into a certain part of our brain, run some electricity through it, and we'd be happy no matter what happened. The happiest people I know are usually profoundly mentally retarded.

If that is eugenics, then I'm okay with some level of eugenics. If there was a prenatal test to determine if a fetus had, say, cystic fibrosis, that would be great because that is a disease that causes a lot of obvious harm to the unborn child. Nobody dies of autism, but there are many children for whom it really affects their quality of life. There are kids who can't be left alone because they smash their heads into walls or have violent outbursts, and they will never be independent. This is not a majority of autistic children, but honestly, preventing the loss of quality of life that those kids have is probably more important from a utilitarian standpoint than the tiny chance we accidentally abort the reincarnation of Einstein cause the test said the baby had tism genes.

And that of course is assuming that whatever sperg geniuses have has the same cause as severe autism, which may very well not be true. But considering how little we know about what causes autism, every argument of this type is always going to make a lot of assumptions.
 
Is the chance that we might have the next generation's Einstein as a sperg really worth it being so widespread? Flip side, it could also be the next generation's OPL or Gacy.

This is just one of those things were all you have to do is swap out 'autism' with any other neurological disorder and realize how stupid it is to want to pretend that it isn't a god damn disorder.
