Yeah, I know Buzzfeed sucks, but my sister showed me this and I had to share it:

There have been rumors throughout the years — like the recent one that the author might be Handbook for Mortalswriter Lani Sarem.
Then, on Aug. 2, a statement was published to a FictionPress account that claimed to belong to the author of "My Immortal."
Then, on Aug. 27, another update was published — this one stating plainly and simply, "No, I am not Lani Sarem."

The internet sleuths went to business. Tumblr user pipistrella theorized that the author in question was YA novelist Rose Christo, who has a memoir — Under the Same Stars — in the works with Macmillan's St. Martin's Press.
Pipistrella pointed to a screenshot that seemed to show Christo logged into the FictionPress account that published the statements.
Christo responded to the rumors via her Tumblr, claiming that "Macmillan Publishers hired a lawyer to vet [her] over the course of three days," and that she provided proof as to her connection to "My Immortal" as well as other events included in the upcoming memoir.

*Editing because I missed the post where I was quoted.*

So you were never in foster care? I don't get this woman's mentality. It's one thing to mistake what happened to a sibling. But it seems like she's made up fanfiction about her own life. Which is truly exceptional.

I'm thinking she thought the whole thing was stupid at first then when it blew up she let it stew for years and did the big reveal for publicity. And it's not even some epic anonymous literature. It's a hilarious troll fic.

Histrionics appears to be the name of the game, my friend. I mentioned in a previous post that our biological family has a sordid history of mental illness. Unfortunately, it seems my sister is no exception. Not only was I never in foster care, but unless something happened after we were separated, she wasn't, either (she lived with our grandmother for her entire life, and still does at the ripe age of 27, as far as I know).

Very well said. Going through her tumblr has been... surreal. Example:

Rose Christo dijo:
this is going to make me sound like a wuss…being an Indian is draining. It’s exhausting, and it’s depressing, and I don’t know a single Indian who hasn’t wished they weren’t an Indian at some point.
Wish granted, sister.

She's not freaking Indian. We're both as white as snow.

It seems she really loves pity and being a victim.

At this point, there's so much I'd love to unpack that I've learned about her through a weekend of reading her accounts that I'm really hoping one of you makes a thread about her.
