Are people remembering traumas decades after legit?

Surprised to see so many people here saying no categorically. Must have had good childhoods. I say yes simply from personal experience, sometimes shit from 20+ years ago just bubbles to the surface. That said, i still doubt the "I was in a satanic pedo sex cult as a child and only now, in my 30's, after three years of psycho analysis under Dr. Goldblattstein, i remember it" kind of repressed memories exist, that is shit that you carry with you and can't be so easily repressed, at least not to such a degree. I imagine real survivors of childhood sexual abuse wish they could.
No, events that had an strong impact on you, you're more likely to remember than forget.

I mentioned this once in the US political thread on the topic of trauma and a theory of buddy of mine came up with to how exposure to porn is a traumatic event for people, by retelling how my buddy would survey people and ask them when was the first time they watched porn and his was amazed how all them could remember their age and what they saw in detail. As if it imprinted its self on their physic.
I don't remember my age but vividly what i saw and how i reacted to it, i am not surprised at the result of your buddies survey. I imagine it's extremely different now with hardcore porn being a press away on every kids phone, the age of first exposure is most likely horrifyingly low.
In the story it's fake for the sake of having a plot. The video I referred to was two guys talking about a story called Penpals. I didn't want to make the classic mistake of mentioning something that is more interesting than the original topic.
Good read and next to Mother Horse Eyes the only thing literarily worthwhile coming from leddit. His second book sucked dick, though.

Drinking problems away? I disavow, but there's a man who uses that strategy everyday

No, look up the Elizabeth Loftus studies on memory confabulation. There's no evidence for Freudian "repression" and it makes no sense evolutionarily; you would not want to forget dangerous or threatening situations. Whenever you see someone push repressed memories, they're usually a psychoanalyst which means they are basically into pseudoscience.
You mean the same Elizabeth Loftus who was brought in as an "expert" to discredit witnesses in the Weinstein, Epstein, and Maxwell trials? That kike bitch is full of shit and so are all the other pedophiles and pedo sympathizers who worked under the wing of the FMSF, she's never been anything more than a coverup artist used to discredit witnesses with a fake ass syndrome that doesn't exist.

So called "false memory syndrome" isn't real, it was literally made up by some fucking guy named Peter Freyd as a defense after his daughter accused him of raping her when she was a kid. If someone got accused of a crime, then made up a syndrome, and said the accuser had it to explain away their accusations would you buy that story? I wouldn't. But it worked wonders for the media whenever they were downplaying cases of organized child sexual abuse (Mcmartin, franklin coverup, epstein/maxwell, etc.) so its no coincidence that the foundation for so called "false memory syndrome" was packed to the brim with literal pedophiles and pedophile advocates, because the whole thing was started as a con to gaslight victims of child sexual abuse and cover up crimes, which is why it shut down. This on top of the obvious fact that that diagnosis FMS is basically unsubstantiated, extremely vague, and coincidentally only applies to recovered memories of child sexual abuse (what a cowinkydink!)

Do people have "false memories"? Yeah, all the time, that's why the Mandela effect exists, but "false memory syndrome" is a very specific thing that was made up by a very sketchy group of Jewish psychologists to cover up for child rape.
"I was in a satanic pedo sex cult as a child and only now, in my 30's, after three years of psycho analysis under Dr. Goldblattstein, i remember it"
Yeah except Dr. Goldblattstein is actually the one telling people that the abuse never happened and they all hallucinated it, just as miss (((LOFTUS))) did in the Epstein and Maxwell trials. Similar arguments were of course brought forward to discredit the kids in the McMartin case, and despite those reports on the tunnels in the declassified FBI documents on the finders, lets just say for the sake of argument none of the satanic ritual abuse claims were real. There is still a mountain of evidence to suggest that those kids were being abused by Ray Buckey, and many of them said so before they were ever interviewed by CII, hell the whole thing happened because one child was showing signs of abuse to his parents (not being able to sleep, being constantly terrified, keeping secrets from his parents, etc.), they took him to the doctor, the doctor found obvious signs of sexual abuse, and a memo was sent out to other parents in the community by the local police department telling parents to check up on their kids and see if they were abused as well. But all the public was ever told about that case was "muh satanic panic" and those kids are liars who were told to say they were abused.

If you want to know more about that case in particular I'd highly recommend looking into Ross Cheit's work on it. The longer you go down the rabbit hole you start to see that the ritual abuse deboonkers were actually way bigger weirdos weirdos than any of the accused "kooks" like Ted Gunderson (I mean a former FBI senior agent in multiple major cities, yeah what does he know? Fuckin wackjob!) who have only been vindicated as time has gone on and more information has come out.

I don't care about your conspiracy theories, nobody in experimental psychology labs is thinking about the Jews or Harvey Weinstein, dude. Loftus made her career on these studies because they're landmark studies and have been replicated and are continually replicated in similar studies. You have abolutely no idea what you're talking about and I'm confident you're one of those morons that is taking up this retarded position because you need to believe in some Satanic Panic conspiracy theory. Go on, out with it, let's hear your looney bullshit. You're a fucking kook.

Oh wait, I scrolled down your post and that's exactly what it is. You're a conspiracy theorist that believes psychologists can recover hidden memories, but that confabulation is bullshit, because you believe in a secret cabal of Satanists that molest children. There's really no other way to treat your posts than with derision, because anyone who is actually familiar with this subject matter beyond Youtube videos knows you're full of shit. Loftus's studies well predate whenever she's testified against "recovered memory" shit. Just because the defense had the correct case, it doesn't mean they also didn't throw every argument possible at her, including invalid recovered memory ones that goofballs like you need to believe in to mainstain your worldview. Loftus didn't just make this shit up, this was a result of multiple studies, which I'd suggest you read but you wouldn't because the Jews probably pushed that study through or whatever horseshit you'll spew.

Nice videos. Let's show people what a kook you are and who you follow...

Oh look, she has DID too!

Seriously dude, it's not everyday I come across a post as crankish and ridiculous as yours, but achievement unlocked, I guess. It must be nice to feel so educated from Youtube University, receiving knowledge and enlightenment from "multiple systems" that talk about UFO abductions on their youtube channel. You really made a fool out of me. Your sources are wackjobs as are you. I don't know how long it took you to write that all out, but it was a waste of time for yourself and everyone else. Everyone walked away a little bit stupider after reading that.

No, one jew (I can't actually substantiate his jewishness, his name just sounds too similar to freud lol) made up a syndrome and said his daughter had it after she accused him of raping her as a kid, and then his wife went along with it, and then decades later other jews like Loftus started using it to discredit witnesses when landmark cases started to come out suggesting that very rich and powerful people (who were also jewish) were involved in unscrupulous behavior with women and children.
Loftus made her career on these studies because they're landmark studies and have been replicated and are continually replicated in similar studies
Then show me the SHTUDIES mister science man. Are you talking about the lost in the mall study, the one that's like 29 years old and, despite only having a sample size of 24 people, she pretends that it's the fucking gospel and has cited it nearly 300 times? Or are you talking about the palmer study where she asked a bunch of people some questions about a car crash video they saw a week earlier? I mean at least that study, despite being even older, still had nearly double the sample size as the lost in the mall study: a whole whopping 45 people, holy cow! I mean we all know that recounting details of a car crash video you saw a week ago is basically the same thing as repressed memories of childhood sexual abuse. Of course this is also not to mention Loftus' record as a defense EXPERT™ in other trials, like that time she acted as a defense expert for Ted Bundy in his 1976 trial for the attempted kidnapping of Carol DaRonch, where Loftus called into question her ability to identify Bundy as the assailant because she couldn't remember what color his shoes were or the color of the fake police badge he showed her to lure her into his vehicle. Luckily the judge didn't buy this bullshit defense and found Bundy guilty of aggravated kidnapping, but he still escaped and killed more people until he was caught in 1978.

This bitch's whole fucking shtick is being a professional gaslighter telling people "don't trust your lying eyes goy!" And as for false memory syndrome and the FMSF itself, it's been a known fact for a while that organization was riddled with pedophiles and pedophile sympathizers and hell, even the term "false memory syndrome" itself wasn't even coined until 1992 when Peter Freyd created the foundation, and then they went for 5 fucking years without coming up with a concrete definition of what FMS actually is or how it can be diagnosed.
Loftus didn't just make this shit up
You're right, Peter Freyd made it up and Loftus ran with it, creating a bullshit defense that numerous sex offenders and rich pedophiles have used since.
you need to believe in some Satanic Panic conspiracy theory
Yeah good thing it was just a conspiracy theory and there isn't a fucking mountain of declassified FBI documents that link the CIA to weird satanic child sex cults, which also show archeological reports confirming there were indeed tunnels under McMartin daycare.
but that confabulation is bullshit
never said this, in fact I LITERALLY FUCKING SAID that people do in fact have "false memories" but that is entirely a different phenomenon from so called "false memory syndrome".
because you believe in a secret cabal of Satanists that molest children
yeah, again, good thing there aren't numerous examples of exactly just that happening, right? I mean North Fox Island? Delta Project? Troop 137? Dutroux Affair? Franklin coverup? The finders? Presidio military daycare? Epstein island? Yeah none of that ever happened, chud, take your meds!
Nice videos. Let's show people what a kook you are and who you follow...
note how you had to latch onto this one video (which has sources cited in the description, beneath a bunch of ridiculous faggot/nigger charities, I won't deny that) to try and discredit my entire argument by portraying me as a kook, but you completely ignore my other citations like Nick Bryant or Ross Cheit. I mean, of course, why actually attack what your opponents are saying when you can just scream "TRUST LE FUCKING SCIENCE™" over and over again and shoot the messenger.

Repressing entirely is probably pretty rare.

Forgetting large chunks or misremembering a traumatic event is actually extremely common.
It's a known thing in law that if you have a bunch of witnesses to a traumatizing event, it's likely they'll all give fairly different summaries of the events.
People also use this excuse for alien encounters as well, saying the memory was changed from a normal traumatic event into seeing aliens, but idk. Sounds far-fetched.

In my experience memory can be really choppy for traumatic events though, and you won't necessarily always remember the most important thing or even things in sequential order. For instance, I had a pretty serious medical emergency that I was in excruciating pain during the event, but I don't remember being in pain or what the pain was like or where it was in my body. Logically I know what happened but I can't recall the feelings. I can viscerally remember random other stuff about what happened though. It's weird.

I think just because memory implantation or false memories are real does not mean repressed memories cannot also be real. The human brain is very complex and I believe no expert that claims to have definitive answers. We also know that trauma that occurs before the ability to form memories still causes long-lasting effects. Like if a baby is SA'd do you really think that this will have no long-lasting impacts on them, just because they can't remember it? The Body Keeps the Score is a good book that discusses this.

Forgetting something, and repressing memories are totally different. It took years of dope, and meditation to repress some of my memories.
There's a real difference between "bad shit" and "trauma" bad shit is your first grade teacher choking you for practicing cursive instead of block letters. The first eviction, followed by homelessness before you're 10 is trauma.

No, people don’t suddenly remember traumatic stuff. It either stays with you or gets repressed.

See the metoo trail of garbage - it’s mostly people who sucked every dick possible to advance their interests and suddenly they remember. It’s a transparent grift for money, fame and staying relevant.

As a person with integrated trauma autoplay, I never remember anything new. If it happened, it’s there.

It's 100% grift such as Kikes writing about the Shoah or Injuns whining about being forced to Read (and would get paddlings for acting up like Chugs do).

It's a shame so many therapists out there are fucking idiots. They bullshitted through their easy degree and the second they get into practice, they only loosely apply actual science while instead ingesting pop culture science nonsense.

My stance in this thread is mainstream modern academic psychology's, it's such a shame the psychoanalysts are still around pushing this kind of horse shit. It's also a failure of academic psychologists and their refusal to disavow this kind of pseudoscience, since academics are spineless twerps and don't want to say anything if it'll rock the boat inside their department.
I am having a hard time finding actual science in psychology. I have been looking for a long time. I'm not really sure any of it is valid.
For example, here's a video about how diagnoses get into the DSM, surprise surprise it's not anything scientific. No worries tho its just the single authority everybody uses for all diagnoses:
Then there's the replication crisis and all the various scandals through the years. There is not solid evidence that therapy in general helps people, and plenty of evidence to the contrary. I have a hard time even thinking of a major psychologist that hasn't been debunked, going all the way back to Freud. I am not sure what in the field is really valid at all. It's like a house that's rotting and you can't use the foundation because it's cracked and you can't even salvage the pipes for plumbing because it turns out they were never actually hooked up to anything.

They can be. It also depends on how much trauma one suffered and if they were from a young age. The older you are the harder it is to forget and some trauma's will take priority for whatever reason. However, I would argue that your subconscious will still be aware of some of those memories, creating a feeling which I'll detail.

*Some people have better clarity of memories even from a young age than others. It's different person to person. Blackouts in some situations may effect the memory or retention of said trauma as well.

Some trauma's or incidents that caused me deep-seated fear I have remembered years later with pretty crazy accuracy which I'll go into, not all memories I forgot were traumatic though...
---

To preface some people fake memories, or remember wrong or even have others imply something leading to a false "resurfacing." PLing ahead:

---

When I was around 1-2, my mother had taken me to a party. Not paying attention I was left to wonder and made my way to a mother dog and her pups that were feeding. Somewhere along the line I touched the pups and the mother dog got pissed off and decided to bite into my face specifically into my lip.

I do not recall this and the only implication such an event even happened was throughout my young life I always had this weird tension around dogs. I'd argue a fear of sorts, because most dogs could sense it to a degree.*My mother told me about it and multiple family members remember the incident themselves. I do not recall the party, the pups or even the dog, or even the injuries at all.

---

When I was also around that age up until around the age of 3, my mother used to move from place to place frequently. One such house was a house on the outskirts of a nearby city right next to a highway, that house no longer exists. However, one night when I was in my late teens I had this horrible nightmare of living in that exact house, I saw in the nightmare from a first person perspective of a young child. It's night, and the only light is from a cowboy (on a horse) nightlight, with a bunch of shadows covering the room and the staircase. I look in the corner when I see a man looking back, in the nightmare I feel like I'm about to bawl out or cry in terror when the man puts his pointer finger to his lips to silence me looking angry he stands up and walks towards me. I wake up.

My mother had confirmed the location of the house that I dreamt about, and that it was true when I was young someone had broken into the house and hid in my room, and of the nightlight itself.
----

Another memory I had that was confirmed was years later after seeing the Creepshow. The exterminator section really unnerved me and the night I saw it again as a young adult I had this terrible nightmare of another house I lived in when around the same age as the other event. I saw on a shelf a porcelain Jester with black clothes and a black hat, alongside my mother's collection of similar items, I walk past a chair into the hallway where the wall doesn't look right, I stumble touching the wall and under the white + flower covered wall paper it squirms. From underneath a few roaches pop-out scattering and the carpet I stand on is also squirming I run to the end of the hall where the fridge is and inside is some roaches, as I slam the door, run outside to the sidewalk in terror.

By the time I had that nightmare the neighborhood that house existed in is long since gone, but my mother confirmed most of how that house did have a extremely bad infestation of roaches and that there was enough that it had indeed caused the walls to move and had to be fumigated, and at around that time she was into a lot of gothic items such as a jester which had been one of her favorites.

Although most people have a revulsion for roaches, Up until I was a young adult I had an extreme hatred and although I wouldn't call it fear I would become extremely tense even when confronted within a setting of low infestation.

---

Now many other traumas from that era of my life I remember and onwards with a few exceptions. Whether it be almost breaking my spine by falling off a large slide, Almost suffering brain damage when I hit 105-106 degrees when I caught strep-throat and almost dying from it, Grabbing the wrong end of an AC unit and cutting up my hands, eating too many sugar-coated animal crackers until I threw up (also happened once with Pops cereal) etc. I remember a lot of memories from the time. However, the first memory mentioned from the start of the post I don't remember, and the other two came back over 11-15 years later and only due to having a nightmare of them. *Note: unless you count my subconscious reaction such as in the case of being bitten up by a dog and being tense around dogs.

--

Yes a lot of repressed memories are complete bullshit and people either misremembering, pseudo-science and other nonsense. However, I would argue every now and then some memories are repressed, whether it's only from a young age is debatable but it certainly DOES happen.
