War Antifa Is Arming Itself Against a Trump Crackdown - Will leftist pro-gun groups deter political violence or inflame it?

Warning: this piece isn't even trying to hide its leftist, pro-Antifa bias.

Liberals are notoriously loath to take their own side in a fight. But their reticence may well be changing in an age of vigilante, white nationalist terror—openly condoned and supported by an incumbent president who has suggested that his armed devotees won’t stand for his removal from office. Increasingly, the antifa left is arguing—and training—in response. They are worried not only about an armed reckoning following a contested election, but also about rising violence from the paramilitaries loyal to President Donald Trump.

Consider the tense political climate in the Pacific Northwest, where Washington state Representative Matt Shea, a dough-faced Christian dominionist from Spokane, made news last year when his instructions on how to build a “holy army” that would kill “all males” who refused to submit to biblical law leaked to the press. “Assassination to remove tyrants is just, not murder,” he wrote. The tyrant he referred to was not Trump, of course, but the communists he imagined running the government.

Such paranoid fantasies may be familiar to heavy consumers of YouTube and Reddit, but watching them transposed on to the structures of governance is a novelty. As a result, many leftists and even some liberals are beginning to reconsider their feelings about firearms, joining a loose amalgamation of gun groups, from John Brown Gun Clubs (which take their name from the abolitionist) to the Pink Pistols (an LGBTQ group), Liberal Gun Club, and Socialist Rifle Association. Some of these organizations are moderate and traditionalist, others radical and revolutionary. But all share one implicit goal: to normalize firearms ownership and training among liberals. Some of their members hope such efforts will at least make Republicans think twice before attempting a massacre.

Whether that approach will inflame political violence—especially in hot spots like the Pacific Northwest—or deter it remains uncertain. In April, Shea spoke at an “open carry” rally in Olympia, which drewhundreds of people, many armed with AR-15s and shotguns. About ten members of the Puget Sound John Brown Gun Club were also there, handing out flyers mocking Shea and another speaker, Joey Gibson of Patriot Prayer, who, they said, “attracted and embraced” rapists, pedophiles, and skinheads. “Want to defend your community from people like Matt Shea?” one flyer asked. At the moment, the Puget Sound JBGC, which was founded less than four months after Trump took office, has around 30 active members. But its firearms safety and marksmanship workshops fill up faster every time the club hosts them. Full members undergo lengthy vetting, but anyone can come learn how guns work, what the parts are, and how to handle them safely, before going to the range and learning to shoot. “We’re talking about white liberals, mostly women, who are like ‘let’s get this class going,’” the club’s founder, Duke Aaron, said. “Two years ago these people would be like ‘Guns? This is terrible.’ That’s not the reaction now.”

these people would be like ‘Guns? This is terrible.’ That’s not the reaction now.”

Trump deserves most of the blame for this particular uptick in gun sales. In March, he told Breitbart, “I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump—I have the tough people … it would be very bad, very bad,” if his followers decided to “play it tough.” In those remarks

Not all threats these days come veiled. Former Trump adviser Roger Stone has used the Proud Boys—a group of neofascist men who describe themselves as “Western chauvinists”—as his own private security force. Border militias have been conducting vigilante operations against suspected undocumented immigrants. (One vigilante told BuzzFeed in April that his group was coordinating with border protection officials on an hourly basis.) And former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who compared American politics in 2019 to the vitriolic climate just before the Civil War, lent his name to an Italian “gladiator school” for training “culture warriors” to defend Christianity in the West.

Stories such as these have inspired a predictable response. The Puget Sound JBGC was founded after Aaron spotted hate graffiti in the park where his child plays. “People have some real fear about what the future holds for them, and some real fear about what lurks down the street,” he said. There is some talk of what would happen when Donald Trump or a more competent authoritarian successor bombs urban centers of resistance, like Seattle, but for the most part, these “community defense” groups are less concerned with doomsday scenarios than they are with immediate threats against mosques, synagogues, abortion clinics, and the like.

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, most of their current members are white and male. Many are veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A third of the Socialist Rifle Association’s 2,000 members identify as LGBTQ, and 8 percent are transgender. “We’ve got liberal folks, politicians and people in the media, saying, ‘the government is becoming a fascist regime,’ and then turning around and saying, ‘You can’t have your guns, we can only have guns in the hands of people we’re calling fascists,’” said Alex Tackett, the SRA’s 22-year-old president.

Of course, for pragmatic as well as public relations purposes, most of these groups insist that they merely want to promote gun safety. The Puget Sound JBGC vigorously rejects the term “militia,” noting that its members are instead merely seeking social justice. “Any police officer who wants to infiltrate us, best of luck; we’re incredibly boring, and everything we do is completely legal,” Aaron said.

I love it. "The bullet." The mythical bullet.

They've never seen real life ammunition in their lives. It's just an abstract prop in the morality play they imagine a real life revolution would be. And they would be the protagonists, obviously.

It may have been truthful, it may have been a parody that became indistinguishable from reality due to the craziness of TDS, but, there was a post / tweet string online of a person who wanted someone to help them identify "bullets" found on the sidewalk outside their home so they could tell the police/find the crazed gunman prowling the neighborhood before it was too late...

... and the picture was a collection of powered screwdriver bits that had obvious spilled from a carrying case.

you can get a decent plinking rifle or decent second hand or small (read designed for concealed carry) pistol for like $300. I saw some police trade in (used by LEO, so reasonably well maintained probably) Colt M&P 9mms going for around that the other day. Lots of entry level guns aren't expensive, especially if you want to be black and buy a shitty hi-point

I'm no antique firearm expert and don't own firearms more complex than a hand-me-down pump shotgun that are older than toward the end of the cold war. Is there a problem with modern ammo in old guns? I would think the internals were just old and might need a trip to a gunsmith, but have no knowledge there.

It would be pretty funny to see antifa trying to maintain soviet and eastern bloc guns though. I mean it isn't hard because they are often so simple, but obviously they need a little love because of the age and sometimes less than ideal storage. I've never had jam or misfire on any of my newer guns but have on that one.

Well if you've got old guns then modern ammo might become a problem because modern ammo is obviously made with modern guns in mind. So you've got to get the caliber and mass right, too much propellant and you risk breaking the internals. My chinese broomhandle pistol from the war is less coveted than the MP40, but I don't dare firing it because the barrel IS the gun, so if it goes then the whole gun is useless.

got to get the caliber and mass right
I mean you always have to have the caliber right. I know some of my guns function better with a little higher grains, but that's more of a feel/accuracy thing. I take it that becomes more important along with the amount of gunpowder. Would one use low grains, subsonic in that case or pack their own to more specific specifications? I would be very afraid to fire an MP40 as much fun as that would be due to the historical value of it. I guess that's a good problem to have though.

That doesn't change the fact that the image of a wannabe neo-Bolsheviks freaking out that they have a jam in their poorly maintained weapon tickles me while the image of strung out freaks sweeping the local range because they couldn't be bothered to talk to an instructor and watch a few safety/etiquette videos is a nightmare.

Well yes and no when it comes to older guns and modern ammo. Now firstly with a SMG such as an MP-40 most of your WWII era smg's fired hotter ammo to make sure that the bolt cycled properly hell I knew someone who fucked up a pistol they had because they were firing some surplus British 9mm meant for a Sten gun. If anything what you'd want to do with older guns is use what they call "gallery loads" typically lighter in it's powder charge so it doesn't take the toll on the barrel a standard round would. Now there are some oddball exceptions to the rule case in point the M1 Garand, you try putting modern hunting 30.06 rounds in it you're gonna have a bad time it was meant to specifically fire ball ammo and then there's the deal with 7.62 NATO and .308 you typically go back and forth between the two rounds in most modern weapons but some older ones such as say the Ishapoor Enfield rifles that were the barrels were rechambered for 7.62 specifically are meant for just that, you put a .308 in there and you'll probably fuck up the breech because most .308 casing doesn't have the same thickness which would cause a gap.

An excellent example to explain this point is the 45-70 bullet. When the US military used it, it was a black powder cartridge. When smokeless powder was introduced, manufacturers had to use way less powder because the pressures 45-70 can create would destroy the original black powder rifles. This undercharging almost killed the cartridge off until cowboy shooting revived it.

"Hello, gunship - error gunshop owner. I, a proud tranny of color (Askandi Jew to be exact) would like to defend myself from nazis, fascists, and proud boys who attempt to murder my kind on the daily. My heart is set on two desert eagles with custom grips, or an AWP, if possible. I have a budget of $250."

The black market is going to be the only way antifa is going to get their hands on firearms if this is how they conduct themselves in proper gun stores

Owner: "Maybe a little of that bible will rub off on her, eh?"
Cop: "Doubt it."

...

Cop: "Any questions for me?"
Owner: (whispers) "was that a girl?"
Cop: [hesitates] "identifies as male"
Owner: "oh, okay, was just curious because the dispatcher kept asking and I couldn't tell..."

lol

Everyone hates these faggots. Absolutely everyone. It's so encouraging.

When the police and the gunsmith both break down laughing at you when you chimp, it's time to reconsider if you really have what it takes to be a revolutionary.....

I remember that video, that guy did a follow up a few months later and surprise surprise the cops do fuckall, it is Washington after all and it's safe to guess who's side they're on. Also not sure if the average person can hear it it sounds like one of other cops brings up how this grotesque meatsacks father is a lawyer or something.

Yeah, Che Guevara may have been a violent homophobe, but his story didn't end with Cuban police chuckling at his fat tranny ass.

In response to WWII gun sperging..... they say one of the reasons it took a long time for the US public to accept 9mm ammunition as legit was that the first time many people in this country ever encountered it was in low-pressure loads specifically designed so GI's wouldn't blow up their irreplaceable war trophies on the 4th of July, and all the kids who saw Grandpa shoot his MP-40 or Luger in the backyard remember him cussing it out every 5th round for failing to cycle..... unaware it was intentionally loaded weak.

I find it hilarious that retards larping as Communists would use a weapon designed and mass produced by Nazi Germany. The irony is palpable.

I have fired both an original MP40, and a full auto modern replica. They're very nice guns, but the modern one was better built. The older guns, at least in my opinion, should not be fired much if at all. If you have a near century old weapon, let it rest.
Shame some antifa larper has one. Idiot will destroy it.

The QC on mid-to-late war German guns in particular was poor to the point that inserting the magazine too hard could irreparably damage both mag AND gun from distorting the metal. Some of the last-ditch SMG's were riveted together and can't even be field-stripped, in the full expectation that the wielder would be dead long before the gun needed a cleaning.....

I can't wait to see baskets of 3D printed firearms crippling bourgeois internet commies. They're going to have to change that black fist flag to be missing some fingers.
