I actually read Inside Mari years ago. It's just depressing with some yuri bait that depresses you more when you read the ending. The girl with the glasses is the one you end up feeling sorry for.
From what I've read of Okaeri Alice, there's something seriously wrong with all three of those kids. Oshimi never writes anything normal. I mean he wrote The Flowers Of Evil and Drifting Net Cafe. He's definitely got some complexes. He even mentions in an afterward in Okaeri Alice that he used to wish he could be a girl. But he realised that this actually ignores what it's like to really be a woman.
The author definitely has issues with gender and sex that end up being heavily represented in his work. When you find out that Drifting Net Cafe is actually about running away from being a responsible father to be you have to wonder if the author also has issues in that category as well.
Even his works that start out funny like Avant Garde Yumiko are just about obsession. It's more light hearted. But I have a hard time believing an actual female would be that obsessed with drawing penises. I feel like given the author's other works it's something in his own personality shining through.
Sweet Poolside is about a girl with excess body hair. It's a girl and not a tranny. But the male character, Otoshi talks about being put in dresses by people and having his soft skin compared to a girl's.
Author definitely has gender issues. I don't think he's doing tranny stuff for woke diversity.
