The simping for this show is pointless. This isn't a Kemono Friends situation, this was Raye being a lazy stoner who didn't know what to do with her 2013 creation and flubbed the premise, premiere and plot. Playing the sympathy card can only take you so far.

"If you're mad at the animation quality, it was the budget," he tweeted. "BG art? Budget. Writing?? Budget. We literally started storyboarding the first episode before the first script was finished."

He also wrote that although the show was streamed on Crunchyroll, it is ultimately a cartoon that was created with the same production pipeline as other American cartoons. He said the budget was "comparable to a CN show, which are usually 11-minutes long, are comedy-centered and have much simpler BGs and characters." He explained that the show was artistically ambitious within the budget and schedule that was provided.

I find it amusing that a defender is arguing that the low budget meant a shitty staff, but one of the biggest complaints about this show pre-release was how CR said little to nothing about the show and instead spent all their promo time highlighting the staff. Even at the budget they spent, maybe the staff would've been good if it hadn't focused on being "the most diverse and inclusive staf evar!"

I'm sure that someone who looked at it saw that it was shit and realized that showing the show wouldn't be doing the company any favors. Given the target audience I'm fairly certain that they also reasoned that focusing the discussion on the staff would get far more traction on social media itself even if the show wasn't an awful mess.

Unfortunately that same group this tactic is meant to appeal to is too busy giving each other ass pats on Twitter to actually spend time consuming anything. They don't ultimately care about the product itself. The value they derive from it is merely being seen to like the product on social media and that's the end of it for most of the crowd. Maybe some will actually consume it if they don't have to go out of their way or it doesn't cost them anything, but many won't bother even then.

The creators themselves are the same kind of inept narcissists that want validation online over creating something that people would actually enjoy or fondly remember and go back to watch twenty years from now. The quality of their work wasn't really important to them either and they were just as happy to receive the attention.

The results are entirely predictable to anyone with an ounce of reason or who hasn't willfully pulled the wool over their eyes, but to them it's just an empty feeling that they can't quite put their finger on. Just like the cargo cults that thought they went through all of the steps but have nothing to show for it, these people are confused and trying to find some reason to explain away the inevitable outcome. Or rather trying to find an explanation that doesn't require admitting to what's painfully obvious to everyone else and that they're desperately avoiding to acknowledge at any cost.

If they're advertising a show and all they have to say in its favor is "muh diversity" I am just going to assume the show is complete ass.
 
I think it's pretty obvious that High Guardian Spice was created as a pitch for more CalArts style Tumblr garbage to Cartoon Network that would've been aimed at the same audience as Steven Universe. It ending up on Crunchy Roll was probably a Plan D of some kind after CN, Nickelodeon, Disney, etc. gave them the thumbs down. Even the creator says it isn't an anime in those autistic Tweets and compares it to a "CN show," which just makes Crunchy Roll look even dumber for funding it:

Yes. What's worse is, they could've put it under the rug & no one would've remembered it, but releasing it reminded people of how shit it'll be 3 years ago, & it became worse when it release cause people were right.

CR fucked their own ass releasing it.

If we are talking harems with the intentions of a long running story and not just a promotional vehicle for a hentai artist to keep themselves fed during comiket downtime then WEH is a huge step back because the lead reminds you of those dense male leads that completely dominated harem anime during the 2000s which were a time when this stuff had the benefit of being guilty pleasures.

Is it not furthering polarization to link populism to a cult who literally gassed random people in a subway? Do you think Anime News Network would publish an article criticizing left wing extremism? That was the time ANN ran ads for a Happy Science propaganda movie. And when they got called out on Twitter, Zac decided to say "KyoAni and VNs bad" instead of addressing the issue at hand then doubled down when HE got called out
