💰 Grifter Anime News Network (ANN), Christopher Macdonald & Co. - "Unbiased" Reporting on All Things Anime Related By Snobbish Quebec-Based Web Company. Acquired by Kadokawa.

Ironically enough, this one comic by Andrew Dobson (a webcomic artist lolcow) I believe pretty much summarizes how ANN feels about the anime fandom in general.

Even more hilarious that the webcomic in question chose IRIA as the anime movie to make fun of. Modern day ANN writers would look at that as a Battle Angel Alita rip-off, while not realizing that IRIA was its own story which was due to the success of Alita popping off.

I knew for ages that ANN's forums have no actual discussion, but I think I started paying attention to how much their staff sucks with the Love Me For Who I Am review where Lynzee effectively shut down all criticism of the review's issues by playing the bigot card. Around that same time Caitlin started writing for ANN and giving shit take after shit take, and she's still my most-hated ANN person (don't worry: the others aren't far behind at all).

I don't disagree with what anyone is saying about Zac.
I don't think he's some kind of misunderstood person.
He's a jerk, all I'm saying is that he at the very least, gave the semblance of being fair.
If you think that makes him worse than the new group, fair enough.
Him, Justin, and O'Toole where very bitter people on ANN. So is the current crop.
None of them want to understand that that the anime they loved so much was very niche and in no way properly represented the medium as a whole.

And for that new group, it wasn't even what they thought it was!

Neither group wants to admit the cool edgy thing that they thought was anime as a whole, isn't. So it just eats them up and makes them bitter biddies that they are.

To be honest, I just find that kinda sad...

So if you excuse me, I must go hug my body pillow waifu for comfort now...😏

I compare anime in late night channels to B Movie tier stuff. It has only a cult following and thats all it needs. It's not meant to be the big thing and it works in a risk averse industry.

Checking out something like Blue Archive made me realize what was having good nostalgic feelings was like and not looking to scream at clouds.

Two movies and an anime spin-off. Not bad at all, if you ask me. The franchise even had a Super Famicom game as well: Hyper Iria.

I'm just saying a lot of people were ban-hammered by him back in the day even if not everyone noticed it and Zac pretended like he wasn't doing it. He was not being fair if you went too far against his line. You were un-personed. Zac was obsessed with moderation and kept lists of people's IP numbers and internet handles to cross-reference if someone made a new account and posted similar opinions, and stuff like that. This is one of the reasons why it didn't shock me with what happened to him. The guy was a nut.
This is true. I crashed his MST3K-ish "Can You Stand" streams and after joking around in the chat, I was banned indefinitely. He made it a point to ban people he didn't like and held a grudge. Also, did anyone else find this opinion piece written by Zac's mom? There's no Hope from Jacob with this family. https://archive.ph/asfyW

I don't really want to talk too much trash about someone's mom, but she seems to be in on the SJW koolaid with him and oblivious (or in denial) about stuff this thread even picked up on. Doesn't admit what role his father played in his psyche, which I'm pretty sure was made clear to everyone, and takes Zac's reaction to his narcissistic girlfriend trooning out (changing his sexual orientation) at face value. Let's not mention not being street smart enough to realize "Trump's march towards authoritarianism" was a media invention designed to sucker in liberal marks into giving outlets clicks and eyeballs and wasn't something anyone should have been actually concerned about especially to the point of obsession like Zac obviously had.

Also she admits he hired people based on minority/LGBT status. Not sure if that is illegal for a company of that size, but it should be. She also makes it seem like he was overworked by ANN. I really have no pity for those scumfucks. As much as Zac was an incredible asshole, it's obvious the people claiming to be his friends in that clique really didn't give a shit about him. Imagine saying "okay, you don't need health insurance" to someone who obviously has serious problems like that.

Believe it or not, no.
Depending on where ANN is supposed to be based in, the company could have gotten a tax break for it.

In the States we have a little this little thing called: Affirmative action.

Learning a bit more about the guy, he most likely did it for the asspats.

It's been a while since I took business law, but I don't think that's how it works:

Under the laws enforced by EEOC, it is illegal to discriminate against someone (applicant or employee) because of that person's race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
It is also illegal for an employer to recruit new employees in a way that discriminates against them because of their race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.

For example, an employer's reliance on word-of-mouth recruitment by its mostly Hispanic work force may violate the law if the result is that almost all new hires are Hispanic.

source: https://www.eeoc.gov/prohibited-employment-policiespractices

Afirmitive action (I think, I could be wrong), has to exist as some kind of structured program based on real world math (there are 30 percent hispanics in this county, so 30 percent workforce should be hispanic). I don't think Zac just going, "I'm going to make sure to hire 5 troons as reviewers," really counts.

But I'm not an expert on this crap, and the company may be technically Canadian even if Zac was in California (which is pretty anti-affirmative action because it always punishes Asians). Either way, it's a bad look unless he was hiring those people for a specific relevant purpose related to their identify (he wasn't).

I agree Caitlin. Luckily, I have an even better bingo describing elitist assholes!

I won't act like I know alot about that law too, just rumors that companies/schools do get tax breaks and bonuses for hiring/enrolling enough diversity hires.

As for that bingo thing, what does that make me if I confessed I've never watched Cowboy Bebop or Guren Lagan?
While I kinda still want to watch Guren Lagan, thanks too elitists, I really don't want to watch Bebop.
I agree Caitlin. Luckily, I have an even better bingo describing elitist assholes!
Hey, now.
Don't put Card captor Sakura on that list!
Her and Tomoyo are the most moe girls to have ever been created.
Put X/1999 there instead. 😏

Edit: I got Tomoyo's name wrong...

>Free! in the middle

Stupid pun is stupid, but also lmao that's not an elitist anime at all. That's just clearly her most favorite KyoAni ever, but she's also a fujoshit, so it was super obvious that was going to be on there much like Yuri!!! On Ice.

Really, I’ve heard a lot of people say Quintessential Quintuplets was really good for a harem series.
It is, until the end. I won't spoil it, but the ending is only likeable depending on which girl you like. I assure you on that cause I loved the 1st season, then I accidentally tapped on a last chapter discussion once & saw which girl won... I haven't seen the 2nd season to this day.

Those are programs they've established, and only in some places. Colleges and businesses have actually lost lawsuits for discriminating against whites, men, Asians etc.

A bunch of people will call you a pleb for watching Gurren Lagann (because it's so mainstream) and not shit it was influenced by like GaoGaiGar and Getter Robo Armageddon (or reading the Getter Robo manga for that matter).

I feel like you could copy/paste that to a discussion about any harem series.
