The Tates, I would imagine, are a flight risk. You don't want to tip them off that they are likely to be arrested and extradited.

I also would question whether they had actual friends there. Many of the right-wing personalities and politicians seemed to be part of what I would call a "grift cabal". Many of the people connected to this had defended Tate in the past, as they have to take the anti-establishment position, even though Tate used to brag about half of his crimes on camera. Trump and many of his political allies are obviously connected to the grift cabal.

I suspect almost everyone understood they were guilty but couldn't see a way to pivot their position. So none of them can openly state the truth about Tate or their distaste for him. So everything has to be said behind closed doors.

Quite a few like Richard Grenell had pressed Romanian officials to let the Tates fly out of Romania. Paolo Zampolli has also been an odd figure in Trump's White House acting as a a special envoy and was partying with the Tate(s?) in Washington last week (I think it was last week at least).

So I'd say they have at least a couple friends there and otherwise had support from many who kinda wanted to lean into the Tates' popularity in the manosphere stuff. But that seems similar to having friends there given the end result is about the same where they were more interested in seeing 'their' side defended than caring about what accusations were tossed around.
