Don't a lot of artists with patreons offer stuff like WIPs, private streams, NSFW versions of art (if they're freakeh) and other fun little tidbits as well as early previews of new pieces? Isn't pateron just supposed to kind of be a tip jar to show you enjoy someone's work?

I always like to compare it to Dwarf Fortress Guy. Now Dwarf Fortress Guy is quite literally insane. But what does he do for a living? He makes a free game on the internet. What does he pull in? $3.5k a month (and that's just Patreon, he also accepts paypal donations). From 969 Patrons. And for every Patron who wishes it, him and his brother will write a short story or draw a (admittadly very crude) drawing of your choice.

But the point is both of these things have nothing to do with the product they are supporting (The Game), it's just done as a "thank you" to their supporters. Dobson's lack of success is purely down to his own laziness, and the fact that something as simple as "thank you" isn't in his vocabulary.

If he actually put effort in, he might be able to make something of himself. But it's much easier to play Splatoon all day and whine on twitter.

Also worth a mention: some artists will put stuff behind a paywall outside of patreon.

However these are "(x) amount of pics for (small price) one time only payment" and usually there's a hefty description of what you're getting.

Dobson's is "no previews, no descriptions, PAY ME CONSTANTLY OR I'LL BAN YOU"

Then he's a goddamned idiot. Commission artists are always expected to provide small samples of their work so people know the artist is generally good for their promises to deliver more, not to mention you can see if their art is worth the money.

If he hates those rules, he deserves to be a failure.

Dobson has some totalitarian tendencies (retweets)

Non-artist here: what does this actually mean? is Dobhead obliviously parroting otherwise good advice, or is he obliviously parroting bullshit?
I know this was few pages back, but I have an explanation for this. The tweet is right, balance is one of several organization methods that can be used in art. You don't need to try to use all of the principles listed in order to create a piece.

I'm willing to bet that someone told Dobson that his Lapis piece would be improved if he had used asymmetrical balance. It certainly would have helped it look less empty.

It's possible that instead he could have been intending use the principle of emphasis. One of the ways this could be done by isolating the object meant to be emphasized (Lapis), which he has done. However, I kind of feel like thinking that he actually thought ahead about his organization is giving Dobson way too much credit. I think it's much more likely that he's now come up with this in order to try to deflect criticism.

Lol Dobby is still spazzing out on Twitter. Remember, Dobby, Wu will never love you and your art is always going to be posted. Those are two constants of the universe.

Dobson would still have to edit his video because he still says the quote outright, word from word. Fatty just can't win.
