💼 Careercow Andrew Dobson (aka Tom Preston)

I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but when Chris tried to get employed by Disney, they didn't take him in favor of another guy called Andrew (who then worked on Wreck-It Ralph IIRC).
Didn't he blame it on the lack of traditional-looking animated movies and not that perhaps he's an untalented hack? Also if the other guy worked on Wreck-It Ralph, I bet Dobson hates that movie with a passion.

Okay, so I understand that somewhere in Dobson's heart he wants to do art professionally (either as a freelancer or an employee), but...does Dobson literally think he exists in a vacuum? Does he think he's SO GOOD that NO ONE during his entire career will ever give him constructive criticism? How did he get through art school where the students and professors tear every work you do to shreds? And does he think that employers or potential clients never do background checks? Because he sure is digging any hopes of having a career an early grave because he feels no shame plastering his real name everywhere on all of his vitriol and inflation confessions.

I think at one point Dobson did have drive but once he never achieved it, he blamed everyone but himself for his own failures (blaming MCAD, his teachers, realism, trolls, constructive criticism...). It's easier to be angry at someone else than it is yourself, and it hurts way, way less. Dobson honestly needs some therapy or cognitive behavioral classes to learn to cope with his perceived failures and the past. Because he is SO far twisted in his delusions, I don't even think it is possible for him to realize his own self-destruction and unrealistic fantasies and get the hell out of there. :/

This is probably down to me being a fail-o-suckyartist but I strangely ended up doing my progress a bit differently, basically started all (somewhat) cartoony and stuff then looked into semi-realistic up to actual realistic. Basically got acquainted with the basic forms of the body then mainly working on more detailed landmarks while checking up on photos and such just to make sure what I'm using is actually accurate.

I guess the point is, I don't think it's super-necessary to jump into the hyper-realistic blood art. However I ain't cutting Dobby any slack because no matter how you do it, there's no excuse for just ditching RL referencing/study altogether. Do that and you just end up with stuff that either looks wrong even for a cartoon or drops riiiiight into uncanny valley.
That last part reminded me of my early, and now tossed into the trash, efforts. It looked all horrible, stiff and could fill a "What not to do" chapter in a how-to book. But yeah, that's pretty much my method. And cartoony styles can really help get a basic grasp of anatomy and construction.

Still doesn't explain why Dobsy refuses to move up in skill. As it would really help him in the long run. Hell I'd say even tracing could improve the man's art just a tad.

Dobson is one of those rare artists that is so aggressively committed to being mediocre, it feels like it would actually take less effort for him to try and improve.

He might even be worse than Zeriara in that respect.

Dobbers started at MCAD in 2000, so he's presumably at least 32.

Doling it at a guess.

I find it hard to imagine he could convincingly fake a physical or mental disability well enough to be awarded benefits, but stranger things have happened.

Again, also late, but has Dobson actually done any professional work at all?

I think he got paid for Brentalfloss.

Última edición:
America doesn't offer Jobseeker's Allowance or something to that effect?
No. If you lose a job through no fault of your own (get laid off, company closes, etc.) you can get unemployment benefits, but those are finite in duration (maybe a year now?) Edit: It's 26 weeks in Wisconsin now, which was where he was living last I heard.

Hmm, Then I guess he's living off mummy and daddy, the Patreon is him panicking because they're threatening to cut him off.

I feel like if he did have some sort of entry-level job he'd be posting scathing tweets about being the "underdog" or something to that effect. Still, what is he doing all day long? I like to think that he doesn't think being a furry SJW is an occupation and that his parents aren't enabling his balding ass.

Doesn't he live by the ads of his webcomics?

Don't know, he seems like the kind to think he's actually helping people by fighting on Twitter all day. It wouldn't surprise me if he does it literally all day, too. He also seems like this kind of person to think certain things are "beneath" him.
Honestly, it surprises me it took him so long to go to Patreon. It's easy money for any artist with any amount of fans.

Hey, tracing may be a bit of a taboo art practice but kept private, it can be a valuable educational tool, if anything I need to trace stuff like photos more often, what better way to learn different landmarks and such than drawing them out?

Of course, Dobby's too pompous for any of that. And by "that" I mean any form of learning or improvement. If I'm gonna be soft on myself for once that's what seperates a bad artist like myself from a bad artist like Dobby.

Didn't he blatantly trace Big Ben in that picture tribute to the UK? Funny how I forgot that. But yeah, I'll agree that if done right, tracing is a good technique to use. Just not as an obvious shortcut.

Bitch, please. You don't need to be a GamerGater to hate Nooky Bear. Hell, I can't stand GamerGate, myself, and still have hate enough in my heart for Nooky Bear.
