Is he talking about the "art" in some project he currently has, where he plans to improve his "art" or is he talking about his "art" in general?
If he's talking about it in general: Holy fuck, how is he planning to ever get employed in the field of art - comic, cartoon or otherwise - if he basically admits that his art sucks right now even for HIS standards.

He won't, obviously.

As for the first question, I think it's the latter. To which I say, 'Good going Dobsy, maybe you should just give up and get a cushy desk job.' Though if that happened, he'd probably get shitcanned for his "Warrioring" on Twitter and his childish behavior fairly quickly.

But he has a degree and...He's been drawing for so long...I mean, every artist has that period when they come up with a dry spell and they have no creativity, no motivation to make something. There's something about Dobson's work that makes it so much worse in my mind. The example I'm drawn to is a comparison between Sonichu and, well, anything of Dobson's: all things being equal, Sonichu had the torture and dismemberment scenes, as well as the awful sex scenes, but they were childish and cringe-worthy rather than anything to actually be upset about. In contrast, Dobson's a better artist than Chris (not that that's saying an awful lot) and as a result his work, while still immature and relatively derivative, is more recognizably bad. Basically it's a lot easier to tell a picture of a turd is a turd if it's in focus.

I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but when Chris tried to get employed by Disney, they didn't take him in favor of another guy called Andrew (who then worked on Wreck-It Ralph IIRC).

This. While Chris stuff is just so bizarre that it is bound to crack you up, Dobson's hypocritical bullshit is just boring tripe at the best of times and pure rage-fuel at worst.

This is probably down to me being a fail-o-suckyartist but I strangely ended up doing my progress a bit differently, basically started all (somewhat) cartoony and stuff then looked into semi-realistic up to actual realistic. Basically got acquainted with the basic forms of the body then mainly working on more detailed landmarks while checking up on photos and such just to make sure what I'm using is actually accurate.

I guess the point is, I don't think it's super-necessary to jump into the hyper-realistic blood art. However I ain't cutting Dobby any slack because no matter how you do it, there's no excuse for just ditching RL referencing/study altogether. Do that and you just end up with stuff that either looks wrong even for a cartoon or drops riiiiight into uncanny valley.
