Introducing Barbies with "variety in body type, skin tones and style" means different Barbies can no longer all wear the same-sized Barbie clothes. This is nothing more than a ploy by Mattel so collectors and the parents of small children will buy more of its product.

But they didn't decide to make a "Busty Sorority Slut" Barbie, they could've doubled the profits on outfits, since its only pants/skirts that will need to be bought in different sizes.

But I don't know why they went with Amy Schumer when they have perfectly good candidates who model themselves after Barbie already:

Actually I think this makes a lot sense from a marketing standpoint. Ghostbusters was stupid because the kinds of people who want to see a Ghostbusters remake and the kinds of people who want to see a Paul Feig movie are on different planets and never the twain shall meet.

Pretty much the only way you could ever do a live action Barbie movie is as a comedy, no one is going to see a serious drama about a plastic doll. So you need to cast a female comedian as the lead. Amy Shumer carries an entire comedy show that gets awesome ratings from the exact same demographic a Barbie movie would be aimed at. None of the people who hate Amy Shumer would have went to see this anyways, and no one who is excited about a Barbie movie doesnt like Amy Shumer. Honestly, who else could they have cast? Keeping in mind that they have to be not just funny but funny enough to carry an entire movie.

The only thing that doesnt fit is her looks, but again, this is another plus for marketing. Feminists rags love to hate Barbie, and they also have a substantial sway over the target audience. Now they pretty much HAVE to write glowing articles about how stunning and brave it is that Barbie has an unhealthy BMI.

If any of this translate to an actually good movie is another question, but I dont think that crossed anyones minds during this whole cynical cash in project and, who the hell cares? Its the Barbie Movie. Wait... SEVENTEEN PAGES OH MY GOD.

Okay, this is just my personal preference, but... they should have made a Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse movie. This show already pokes fun at the Barbie toy line in a funny, non-politically motivated way. It also attracted people to it who weren't already Barbie fans because, I think, of its self-deprecating humor. But Amy Schumer is so hilarious I fucking lose my mind when she talks about her vagina.
