To be fair to Ghostbusters 2016 a lot of critics basically pointed out that while it was funny, it just couldn't escape the original's shadow and be its own thing - it's not as good as the original or as funny as the original, so they're like 'We liked it but you know, this didn't need to exist.'

My main problem with that movie was that it should have been direct to HBO or other streaming platforms.

So a fat Barbie has the exact opposite effect than a paper thin one according to the American Psychological Association in that it makes girls actually become more afraid of becoming fat as opposed to thin ones and so they become way more dissatisfied with their bodies as they freak out over worrying that they might become fat.

The 35-year-old comic, appearing on Monday's edition of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, spoke about her recent Instagram post in which she reinforced her self-esteem amid a torrent of trolling linked to reports that she might be playing Barbie in a Sony adaptation based on the Mattel line.

Ellen complimented the Trainwreck actress on how she handled the situation, and Schumer explained the course of events that led to her insightful post.

Trolls Vs. Barbie: Why Sony's 'Barbie' Movie Is Heading For A Meltdown

Trolls vs. Barbie sounds like a game kids might have enjoyed in the early 1990s but this week life imitated playtime when it was announced that risqué comedienne Amy Schumer is in talks to play the lead role in Sony's upcoming Barbie movie. Unsurprisingly, given Schumer’s public comments about her struggle with body image versus Barbie’s very existence as a flawless plastic doll with unachievable physical proportions, there was some bemusement at the choice. Equally unsurprisingly, anyone expressing said bemusement was immediately labelled a troll.

Nasty comments on social media about Schumer’s appearance are both rude and unwarranted. But, let’s be honest, the real troll here is Sony, who cast Schumer precisely because she doesn’t resemble a typical Barbie doll, no doubt hoping the move would generate controversy. And if you think that’s unfair, consider the fact that producers initially wanted Schumer for a sidekick character called Maggie while desperately pursuing the more traditionally beautiful Margot Robbie for the title role, describing her as "Barbie come to life."

Then, of course, there’s the film’s premise, which, according to Deadline, sees Schumer get kicked out of “Barbieland” because “she’s not perfect enough.” Frankly, the only thing more surprising than Sony’s casting is that Mattel, which owns the Barbie brand, has approved a storyline that apparently portrays their best known toy - the crown jewel of their catalogue – as kind of a bitch, since presumably it’s the regular Barbies (you know, the ones who make Mattel millions of dollars every year in toy and merchandise sales?) that kick Schumer’s less-than-perfect version out of Barbieland.

But Schumer’s casting is indicative of the deeper problem at the heart of this movie: Sony’s desire to cash in on a globally recognized brand while intrinsically disliking what that brand represents.

This seemingly emerged during the film’s development process, where no one appeared to have any clear idea regarding what a Barbie movie should be about, who it should be aimed at, or even, at one point, whether it should be animated or live-action. This despite the fact that Hollywood is littered with enduringly popular Barbie-inspired characters such as Elle Woods in

Legally Blonde, Cher Horowitz in Clueless, and Regina George in Mean Girls, all of whom appear in live-action films aimed at women aged somewhere between 12 and 30. That, coincidentally, is roughly the same demographic who are starting to age out of playing with dolls and beginning, instead, to collect $200 limited edition Karl Lagerfeld-clad Barbies from Net-a-Porter (which sold out in minutes) and wear $100 Barbie-emblazoned sweaters from Wildfox. Not to mention it's a demographic that is currently wildly underserved at the box office.

Ok, so the world of Barbie is traditionally associated with young girls, not angry adult men, but it turns out that a bunch of these adult men apparently feel that they should get the final say in any Barbie-related decisions that might possibly have some sort of impact on, I guess, their weird sexual fantasies about Barbie dolls?

See, they’re mad about reports that Schumer may play the title role in an upcoming live-action film based on the legendary Barbie doll because, even though the film isn’t aimed at them at all, the very thought that a woman with opinions they don’t like, and who they think is a fatty, might play Barbiekind of makes their little heads explode.

And so, on Reddit’s The_Donald, where a good number of these angry dudes tend to congregate, the Trump-loving, Schumer-hating regulars have decided to make America great again by Googlebombing an unflattering pic of Amy Schumer to the top of the search results for the phrase “fat Barbie.”

They haven’t succeeded in this task, at least not yet, though the post advocating the Googlebomb has managed to garner more than 3500 upvotes so far.
