Atleast his white.
I feel like Patrick Bateman is intrinsically a character who you can never really race or gender swap and society at large knows it.

As for Austin, I know he's a talented actor since he was really good in Elvis and Dune Part 2, but I hope he has his own unique performance and doesn't try to emulate Christian Bale.

Because what made Bale's performance work is that Bale himself was trying to also emulate Tom Cruise through Bateman since Tom Cruise is an actual psychopath.

It's going to be bad, because if there's one thing that has changed about modern Hollywood, it is the complete loss of any lingering traces of humor or satirical understanding.

Also, if anyone can stake a claim on Patrick Batmen being "literally me", it would be Ellis himself.

Bateman was crazy the same way I was. He did not come out of me sitting down and wanting to write a grand sweeping indictment of yuppie culture. It initiated because of my own isolation and alienation at a point in my life. I was living like Patrick Bateman. I was slipping into a consumerist kind of void that was supposed to give me confidence and make me feel good about myself but just made me feel worse and worse and worse about myself. That is where the tension of American Psycho came from. It wasn't that I was going to make up this serial killer on Wall Street. High concept. Fantastic. It came from a much more personal place, and that's something that I've only been admitting in the last year or so. I was so on the defensive because of the reaction to that book that I wasn't able to talk about it on that level.

Heard a joke once. Man goes to the doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain.

Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great Patrick Bateman is in town tonight, he gives fantastic business advice. Go see him. That should pick you up and help your investments"

Man bursts into laughter.

"But doctor," he says, "he's literally me!"

Good joke. Everybody laughs. Hip to be square plays. Curtains
