Far more gruesome that the film. But the film does a fantastic job adapting and shortening it to a film's length. Quite a bit of the book is referenced in the movie. When he calls his lawyer at the end, everything he's confessing to that's not seen in the film is out of the book. How does the book compare? I really, really like the movie and Christian Bale's performance. His early work was a little too ethnic for my tastes, but when American Psycho came out in 2000, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. His whole character has a profound, menacing presence, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the film a big boost. He's been compared to Daniel Day Lewis, but I think Christian has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.
But really, how is the book?
Him killing his college girlfriend was probably the most shocking moment for me during my read with how grotesque it was.
