Not arguing she didn't fuck up or wasn't the root cause of the accident, not much value in just saying "Woman driver, job's done" for recommendations though. Was curious why the instructor didn't physically react and still waiting to see what conclusions there are for that.

I'm also curious if she would have faced consequences for busting the ceiling and failing to listen to ATC. Considering the US Army let a group of Helicopter pilots caught cheating retake the training course I think it's safe to assume she would have faced minor consequences at most.

DEI have lowered barriers to people under qualified in accessing positions they shouldn’t have. Whether this was the case with homegirl or not I wouldn’t know because I don’t have that info.

But the military as a whole has been lowering requirements and standards across the board because they can’t even hope to get people enlisting without that.

The fact the instructor dude either didn’t see the impending disaster about to happen or did and decided that was preferable to being ‘canceled’ for misogyny (I kinda doubt this scenario though) says he was probably not very qualified either.

As a thought experiment, imagine some kind of bizarro society where men did all the primarily female jobs.

• 95% of daycare workers
• 95% of preschool teachers
• 90% of hair dressers

Since this thread has already gone off the rails. I've had 3 women Flight Instructors. One was average, she was early in her career and was headed for corporate jets. One who had a bunch of hours was horrible as an instructor, might have been a fine pilot but was abysmal at trying to teach, the third also had a ton of hours but was a good instructor and taught me some good advanced stuff early in my training.

The instructor pilot would have faced any consequences, if they were given, as well. He also ignored ATC and accepted a visual approach when neither of them should have even been asking for it. He has authority in there and the fact he didn’t see a problem shows a failure in training altogether. It was somewhat common for them (military pilots on this route) to ask for visual only, which should have been seen as unacceptable given the area. Really horrific and devastating for the commercial liner in particular.

She wasn’t even the root cause though. Neither was the instructor even. That mindset is so limited, and leads to the type of arrogance and finger pointing that causes more accidents.

If there’s any lesson to be learned here, for kiwifarmers, literally never get into a helicopter

Its actually kind of a shame, too. For other women. I know a few of the original Mercury 7 astronauts had wives that were pilots, too. Chuck Yeager's wife Glennis (She of the Glamourous adjective) was also a pilot, I think. Women pilots were not exactly common in the early "barnstorming to shill for vicks vaporub or lucky strikes" days of aviation, but certainly were around.
